Exact Solutions of the Dirac Equation for Modified Coulombic Potentials

    Get PDF
Exact solutions are found to the Dirac equation for a combination of Lorentz scalar and vector Coulombic potentials with additional non-Coulombic parts. An appropriate linear combination of Lorentz scalar and vector non-Coulombic potentials, with the scalar part dominating, can be chosen to give exact analytic Dirac wave functions. The method works for the ground state or for the lowest orbital state with l=j-{1/2}, for any j.Comment: 7 pages, Latex fil

Modelling Financing Schemes for Energy System Planning: A Mini-Grid Case Study

    Get PDF
Energy modeling has been playing a crucial role in defining solutions for effective energy planning. Bottomup energy system planning models, namely those models characterized by high technological detail, typically present exogenous techno-economic parameters which rely on data gathered by the user, from specific costs to efficiencies. However, poor to no attention has been given to the date to the financial parameters of energy models, which are often assumed and barely justified (e.g., “discount rate equal to 10%”, full stop). Still, model outputs are drastically sensitive to variations of finance-related parameters and must provide the financing structure that a decision-maker should implement for funding the advised energy planning strategies. This results particularly crucial for mini-grid sizing in sub-Saharan African countries, where the challenge of the energy transition entails the construction of massive new capacities to improve energy access rates and tiers of service, demanding an enhanced collaboration between private and public sectors. The case study, applied on an off-grid mini-grid in Mozambique, proposes a comparison between scenarios with increasing financial detail and a possible conceptualization of the hard link between detailed financial modelling and a bottom-up energy model for mini-grid optimization. Different financing schemes are modelled and their impact on the energy modelling outputs assessed. Project finance hence emerges as a useful approach that could upgrade the financing structure of domestic power projects in African countries. This may lead to many benefits: more sustainable and affordable interest rates where corporate finance is missing, improved risk management, diversified funding mix, and facilitated financial support from international institutions

Introduction Biologic medicines have revolutionized the treatment of many serious and chronic illnesses and they present important challenges for approval and post-market surveillance of drug safety. Pharmacovigilance is an important strategy for monitoring adverse drug events in the post-market. Drug registration is an essential element of medicine regulation. Objectives and Approach Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, ANVISA, is responsible for drug registration and surveillance. In this work we describe the process of linkage of databases covering registration, post-approval changes, and pharmacovigilance of biological medicines in Brazil. 2.429,556 registration dossiers included in the comprehensive national drug registration database, DATAVISA, and 93,391 reports of adverse drug events in the pharmacovigilance database, NOTIVISA, were analyzed for completeness and non biologic dossiers were filtered out. Deterministic linkage technique was used to connect DATAVISA and NOTIVISA data. Results Of the DATAVISA dossiers, 188,830 were registrations and 2,240,726 records were post-approval changes. After filtering out the non-biologic dossiers, 48,144 post-approval changes dossiers for biologic drugs were obtained. Aggregation of 48,144 post-approval biologic products dossiers resulted in 663 product-manufacturer pairs. For pharmacovigilance data, aggregation produced 5,874 pairs. Registration and post-approval changes merging from aggregated pairs resulted in 577 pairs. Trios with pharmacovigilance data resulted in 147 matches. These 147 pairs respond for 5.468 identified adverse drug events reports. Adverse drug events reports of biological medicines account for around 5,0 \% of NOTIVISA. Conclusion/Implications Regulatory actions should be implemented to stimulate adverse events reports of biological products. A single database with registration, post-approval changes and pharmacovigilance data was produced. Data linkage permitted analysis of biological medicines in the post-market and can provide important information to evaluate risk in drug development

Cardiovascular responses to passive static flexibility exercises are influenced by the stretched muscle mass and the Valsalva maneuver

BACKGROUND: The respiratory pattern is often modified or even blocked during flexibility exercises, but little is known about the cardiovascular response to concomitant stretching and the Valsalva maneuver (VM) in healthy subjects. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and rate-pressure product (RPP) during and after large and small muscle group flexibility exercises performed simultaneously with the VM. METHODS: Asymptomatic volunteers (N = 22) with the following characteristics were recruited: age, 22 ± 3 years; weight, 73 ± 6 kg; height, 175 ± 5 cm; HR at rest, 66 ± 9 BPM; and SBP at rest, 113 ± 10 mmHg. They performed two exercises: four sets of passive static stretching for 30 s of the dorsi-flexion (DF) of the gastrocnemius and the hip flexion (HF) of the ischio-tibialis. The exercises were performed with (V+) or without (V-) the VM in a counterbalanced order. The SBP and HR were measured, and the RPP was calculated before the exercise session, at the end of each set, and during a 30-min post-exercise recovery period. RESULTS: The within-group comparisons showed that only the SBP and RPP increased throughout the sets (p<0.05), but no post-exercise hypotension was detected. The between-group comparisons showed that greater SBP increases were related to the VM and to a larger stretched muscle mass. Differences for a given set were identified for the HR (the HFV+ and HFV- values were higher than the DFV+ and DFV- values by approximately 12 BPM), SBP (the HFV+ value was higher than the DFV+ and DFV- values by approximately 12 to 15 mmHg), and RPP (the HFV+ value was higher than the HFV- value by approximately 2000 mmHGxBPM, and the HFV+ value was higher than the DFV+ and DFV- values by approximately 4000 mmHGxBPM). CONCLUSION: Both the stretched muscle mass and the VM influence acute cardiovascular responses to multiple-set passive stretching exercise sessions

In this study, we discuss the importance of land use, land cover planning and forest stand management in fire hazard reduction, through the analysis of fire behavior in relation to landscape changes in Deilão, northeastern Portugal. Markov chains and cellular automata model were used to project future landscapes whose structures were quantified by landscape metrics. The FlamMap model was used to simulate fire behavior. According to landscape metrics from Fragstats, we observed that scenarios and projections in Deilão have a trend towards landscape simplification, which may facilitate the occurrence of larger, more severe fires. The analyses indicate an increased fire hazard trend in the region, largely caused by the continuity of forest cover. To avoid such impacts, forest management and landscape plannig should be modified in order to reduce the accumulation of combustible materials.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

It was evaluated the effect of plant growth regulators in the root development in coffee seeds cv. Rubi (Coffea arabica L. Rubi) grown in vitro. Coffee seeds from adult plants were established on medium MS/2 + sucrose (20 g L-1) + agar (6 g L-1). Four treatments were tested: T1 - control; T2 -BAP (6 mg L-1) + NAA (0,1 mg L-1); T3 -BAP (6 mg L-1); T4 - GA3 (5 mg L-1). The highest rooting response was observed on the control (MS/2 + agar + sucrose). This suggest that rooting can be achieved without the use of plant growth regulators.
