Physiotherapy students\u27 perceptions and experiences of clinical prediction rules
Objectives: Clinical reasoning can be difficult to teach to pre-professional physiotherapy students due to their lack of clinical experience. It may be that tools such as clinical prediction rules (CPRs) could aid the process, but there has been little investigation into their use in physiotherapy clinical education. This study aimed to determine the perceptions and experiences of physiotherapy students regarding CPRs, and whether they are learning about CPRs on clinical placement.
Design: Cross-sectional survey using a paper-based questionnaire.
Participants: Final year pre-professional physiotherapy students (n=371, response rate 77%) from five universities across five states of Australia.
Results: Sixty percent of respondents had not heard of CPRs, and a further 19% had not clinically used CPRs. Only 21% reported using CPRs, and of these nearly three-quarters were rarely, if ever, learning about CPRs in the clinical setting. However most of those who used CPRs (78%) believed CPRs assisted in the development of clinical reasoning skills and none (0%) was opposed to the teaching of CPRs to students. The CPRs most commonly recognised and used by students were those for determining the need for an X-ray following injuries to the ankle and foot (67%), and for identifying deep venous thrombosis (63%).
Conclusions: The large majority of students in this sample knew little, if anything, about CPRs and few had learned about, experienced or practiced them on clinical placement. However, students who were aware of CPRs found them helpful for their clinical reasoning and were in favour of learning more about them
Focus Stacking Images of Morphological Character States for Differentiating the Adults of \u3ci\u3eIxodes affinis\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3eIxodes scapularis\u3c/i\u3e (Acari: Ixodidae) in Areas of Sympatry
Adult females and males of Ixodes affinis and Ixodes scapularis are illustrated by focus stacking image photography, and morphological character states are described that reliably differentiate the two species. In conjunction with other environmental cues, such as the questing phenology of adults, these characteristics will enable the rapid identification of adults of either sex along the southern Coastal Plain of the United States, where these species are sympatric
Simulator for Microlens Planet Surveys
We summarize the status of a computer simulator for microlens planet surveys.
The simulator generates synthetic light curves of microlensing events observed
with specified networks of telescopes over specified periods of time.
Particular attention is paid to models for sky brightness and seeing,
calibrated by fitting to data from the OGLE survey and RoboNet observations in
2011. Time intervals during which events are observable are identified by
accounting for positions of the Sun and the Moon, and other restrictions on
telescope pointing. Simulated observations are then generated for an algorithm
that adjusts target priorities in real time with the aim of maximizing planet
detection zone area summed over all the available events. The exoplanet

Integrated orbital servicing study for low-cost payload programs. Volume 2: Technical and cost analysis
Orbital maintenance concepts were examined in an effort to determine a cost effective orbital maintenance system compatible with the space transportation system. An on-orbit servicer maintenance system is recommended as the most cost effective system. A pivoting arm on-orbit servicer was selected and a preliminary design was prepared. It is indicated that orbital maintenance does not have any significant impact on the space transportation system
ESA F-Class Comet Interceptor: Trajectory design to intercept a yet-to-be-discovered comet
Comet Interceptor (Comet-I) was selected in June 2019 as the first ESA F-Class mission. In 2029+, Comet-I will hitch a ride to a Sun-Earth L2 quasi-halo orbit, as a co-passenger of ESA's M4 ARIEL mission. It will then remain idle at the L2 point until the right departure conditions are met to intercept a yet-to-be-discovered long period comet (or interstellar body). The fact that Comet-I target is thus unidentified becomes a key aspect of the trajectory and mission design. The paper first analyses the long period comet population and concludes that 2 to 3 feasible targets a year should be expected. Yet, Comet-I will only be able to access some of these, depending mostly on the angular distance between the Earth and the closest nodal point to the Earth's orbit radius. A preliminary analysis of the transfer trajectories has been performed to assess the trade-off between the accessible region and the transfer time for a given spacecraft design, including a fully chemical, a fully electric and a hybrid propulsion system. The different Earth escape options also play a paramount role to enhance Comet-I capability to reach possible long period comet targets. Particularly, Earth-leading intercept configurations have the potential to benefit the most from lunar swing-by departures. Finally, a preliminary Monte Carlo analysis shows that Comet-I has a 95–99% likelihood of successfully visit a pristine newly-discovered long period comet in less than 6 years of mission timespan
Can people guess what happened to others from their reactions?
Are we able to infer what happened to a person from a brief sample of his/her behaviour? It has been proposed that mentalising skills can be used to retrodict as well as predict behaviour, that is, to determine what mental states of a target have already occurred. The current study aimed to develop a paradigm to explore these processes, which takes into account the intricacies of real-life situations in which reasoning about mental states, as embodied in behaviour, may be utilised. A novel task was devised which involved observing subtle and naturalistic reactions of others in order to determine the event that had previously taken place. Thirty-five participants viewed videos of real individuals reacting to the researcher behaving in one of four possible ways, and were asked to judge which of the four ‘scenarios’ they thought the individual was responding to. Their eye movements were recorded to establish the visual strategies used. Participants were able to deduce successfully from a small sample of behaviour which scenario had previously occurred. Surprisingly, looking at the eye region was associated with poorer identification of the scenarios, and eye movement strategy varied depending on the event experienced by the person in the video. This suggests people flexibly deploy their attention using a retrodictive mindreading process to infer events
Microlens OGLE-2005-BLG-169 Implies Cool Neptune-Like Planets are Common
We detect a Neptune mass-ratio (q~8e-5) planetary companion to the lens star
in the extremely high-magnification (A~800) microlensing event
OGLE-2005-BLG-169. If the parent is a main-sequence star, it has mass M~0.5
M_sun implying a planet mass of ~13 M_earth and projected separation of ~2.7
AU. When intensely monitored over their peak, high-magnification events similar
to OGLE-2005-BLG-169 have nearly complete sensitivity to Neptune mass-ratio
planets with projected separations of 0.6 to 1.6 Einstein radii, corresponding
to 1.6--4.3 AU in the present case. Only two other such events were monitored
well enough to detect Neptunes, and so this detection by itself suggests that
Neptune mass-ratio planets are common. Moreover, another Neptune was recently
discovered at a similar distance from its parent star in a low-magnification
event, which are more common but are individually much less sensitive to
planets. Combining the two detections yields 90% upper and lower frequency
limits f=0.37^{+0.30}_{-0.21} over just 0.4 decades of planet-star separation.
In particular, f>16% at 90% confidence. The parent star hosts no Jupiter-mass
companions with projected separations within a factor 5 of that of the detected
planet. The lens-source relative proper motion is \mu~7--10 mas/yr, implying
that if the lens is sufficiently bright, I<23.8, it will be detectable by HST
by 3 years after peak. This would permit a more precise estimate of the lens
mass and distance, and so the mass and projected separation of the planet.
Analogs of OGLE-2005-BLG-169Lb orbiting nearby stars would be difficult to
detect by other methods of planet detection, including radial velocities,

RoboTAP: Target priorities for robotic microlensing observations
Context. The ability to automatically select scientifically-important transient events from an alert stream of many such events, and to conduct follow-up observations in response, will become increasingly important in astronomy. With wide-angle time domain surveys pushing to fainter limiting magnitudes, the capability to follow-up on transient alerts far exceeds our follow-up telescope resources, and effective target prioritization becomes essential. The RoboNet-II microlensing program is a pathfinder project, which has developed an automated target selection process (RoboTAP) for gravitational microlensing events, which are observed in real time using the Las Cumbres Observatory telescope network.
Aims. Follow-up telescopes typically have a much smaller field of view compared to surveys, therefore the most promising microlensing events must be automatically selected at any given time from an annual sample exceeding 2000 events. The main challenge is to select between events with a high planet detection sensitivity, with the aim of detecting many planets and characterizing planetary anomalies.
Methods. Our target selection algorithm is a hybrid system based on estimates of the planet detection zones around a microlens. It follows automatic anomaly alerts and respects the expected survey coverage of specific events.
Results. We introduce the RoboTAP algorithm, whose purpose is to select and prioritize microlensing events with high sensitivity to planetary companions. In this work, we determine the planet sensitivity of the RoboNet follow-up program and provide a working example of how a broker can be designed for a real-life transient science program conducting follow-up observations in response to alerts; we explore the issues that will confront similar programs being developed for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) and other time domain surveys
The Relationship Between Plasma Flow Doppler Velocities and Magnetic Field Parameters During the Emergence of Active Regions at the Solar Photospheric Level
A statistical study has been carried out of the relationship between plasma
flow Doppler velocities and magnetic field parameters during the emergence of
active regions at the solar photospheric level with data acquired by the
Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory
(SOHO). We have investigated 224 emerging active regions with different spatial
scales and positions on the solar disc. The following relationships for the
first hours of the emergence of active regions have been analysed: i) of peak
negative Doppler velocities with the position of the emerging active regions on
the solar disc; ii) of peak plasma upflow and downflow Doppler velocities with
the magnetic flux growth rate and magnetic field strength for the active
regions emerging near the solar disc centre (the vertical component of plasma
flows); iii) of peak positive and negative Doppler velocities with the magnetic
flux growth rate and magnetic field strength for the active regions emerging
near the limb (the horizontal component of plasma flows); iv) of the magnetic
flux growth rate with the density of emerging magnetic flux; v) of the Doppler
velocities and magnetic field parameters for the first hours of the appearance
of active regions with the total unsigned magnetic flux at the maximum of their

Limits on additional planetary companions to OGLE-2005-BLG-390L
We investigate constraints on additional planets orbiting the distant M-dwarf
star OGLE-2005-BLG-390L, around which photometric microlensing data has
revealed the existence of the sub-Neptune-mass planet OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb. We
specifically aim to study potential Jovian companions and compare our findings
with predictions from core-accretion and disc-instability models of planet
formation. We also obtain an estimate of the detection probability for
sub-Neptune mass planets similar to OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb using a simplified
simulation of a microlensing experiment. We compute the efficiency of our
photometric data for detecting additional planets around OGLE-2005-BLG-390L, as
a function of the microlensing model parameters and convert it into a function
of the orbital axis and planet mass by means of an adopted model of the Milky
Way. We find that more than 50 % of potential planets with a mass in excess of
1 M_J between 1.1 and 2.3 AU around OGLE-2005-BLG-390L would have revealed
their existence, whereas for gas giants above 3 M_J in orbits between 1.5 and
2.2 AU, the detection efficiency reaches 70 %; however, no such companion was
observed. Our photometric microlensing data therefore do not contradict the
existence of gas giant planets at any separation orbiting OGLE-2005-BLG-390L.
Furthermore we find a detection probability for an OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb-like
planet of around 2-5 %. In agreement with current planet formation theories,
this quantitatively supports the prediction that sub-Neptune mass planets are
