K-Space at TRECVID 2008
In this paper we describe K-Space’s participation in
TRECVid 2008 in the interactive search task. For 2008
the K-Space group performed one of the largest interactive
video information retrieval experiments conducted
in a laboratory setting. We had three institutions participating
in a multi-site multi-system experiment. In
total 36 users participated, 12 each from Dublin City
University (DCU, Ireland), University of Glasgow (GU,
Scotland) and Centrum Wiskunde and Informatica (CWI,
the Netherlands). Three user interfaces were developed,
two from DCU which were also used in 2007 as well as
an interface from GU. All interfaces leveraged the same
search service. Using a latin squares arrangement, each
user conducted 12 topics, leading in total to 6 runs per
site, 18 in total. We officially submitted for evaluation 3
of these runs to NIST with an additional expert run using
a 4th system. Our submitted runs performed around
the median. In this paper we will present an overview of
the search system utilized, the experimental setup and a
preliminary analysis of our results
Observation of an Excited Bc+ State
Using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb-1 recorded by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of s=7, 8, and 13 TeV, the observation of an excited Bc+ state in the Bc+π+π- invariant-mass spectrum is reported. The observed peak has a mass of 6841.2±0.6(stat)±0.1(syst)±0.8(Bc+) MeV/c2, where the last uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the Bc+ mass. It is consistent with expectations of the Bc∗(2S31)+ state reconstructed without the low-energy photon from the Bc∗(1S31)+→Bc+γ decay following Bc∗(2S31)+→Bc∗(1S31)+π+π-. A second state is seen with a global (local) statistical significance of 2.2σ (3.2σ) and a mass of 6872.1±1.3(stat)±0.1(syst)±0.8(Bc+) MeV/c2, and is consistent with the Bc(2S10)+ state. These mass measurements are the most precise to date
Behavior Discovery and Alignment of Articulated Object Classes from Unstructured Video
We propose an automatic system for organizing the content of a collection of
unstructured videos of an articulated object class (e.g. tiger, horse). By
exploiting the recurring motion patterns of the class across videos, our
system: 1) identifies its characteristic behaviors; and 2) recovers
pixel-to-pixel alignments across different instances. Our system can be useful
for organizing video collections for indexing and retrieval. Moreover, it can
be a platform for learning the appearance or behaviors of object classes from
Internet video. Traditional supervised techniques cannot exploit this wealth of
data directly, as they require a large amount of time-consuming manual
annotations.
The behavior discovery stage generates temporal video intervals, each
automatically trimmed to one instance of the discovered behavior, clustered by
type. It relies on our novel motion representation for articulated motion based
on the displacement of ordered pairs of trajectories (PoTs). The alignment
stage aligns hundreds of instances of the class to a great accuracy despite
considerable appearance variations (e.g. an adult tiger and a cub). It uses a
flexible Thin Plate Spline deformation model that can vary through time. We
carefully evaluate each step of our system on a new, fully annotated dataset.
On behavior discovery, we outperform the state-of-the-art Improved DTF
descriptor. On spatial alignment, we outperform the popular SIFT Flow
algorithm.Comment: 19 pages, 19 figure, 3 tables. arXiv admin note: substantial text

Precision measurement of the Ξcc++ mass
A measurement of the Ξ++cc mass is performed using data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 fb−1. The Ξ++cc candidates are reconstructed via the decay modes Ξ++cc→Λ+cK−π+π+ and Ξ++cc→Ξ+cπ+. The result, 3621.55 ± 0.23 (stat) ± 0.30 (syst) MeV/c2, is the most precise measurement of the Ξ++cc mass to date
Angular analysis of and decays and search for violation
The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate
asymmetry of the and decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton
collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of
7, 8 and 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9
fb. The full set of -averaged angular observables and their
asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The
results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with
symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and

Observation of the Decay Λ0b→Λ+cτ−¯ν
The first observation of the semileptonic b-baryon decay Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ, with a significance of 6.1σ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The τ- lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions. The ratio K=B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)/B(Λb0→Λc+π-π+π-) is measured to be 2.46±0.27±0.40, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The branching fraction B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)=(1.50±0.16±0.25±0.23)% is obtained, where the third uncertainty is from the external branching fraction of the normalization channel Λb0→Λc+π-π+π-. The ratio of semileptonic branching fractions R(Λc+)B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)/B(Λb0→Λc+μ-ν¯μ) is derived to be 0.242±0.026±0.040±0.059, where the external branching fraction uncertainty from the channel Λb0→Λc+μ-ν¯μ contributes to the last term. This result is in agreement with the standard model prediction
Study of the psi(2)(3823) and chi(c1)(3872) states in B+->(J/psi pi(+)pi(-))K(+)decays
The decays are studied using a data
set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb collected with the
LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions between 2011 and 2018. Precise
measurements of the ratios of branching fractions with the intermediate
, and states are reported. The decay
of with is observed for the first time with a significance of 5.1
standard deviations. The mass differences between the ,
and states are measured to be resulting in the
most precise determination of the mass. The width of the
state is found to be below 5.2MeV at 90\% confidence level. The
Breit-Wigner width of the state is measured to be which is inconsistent with zero by 5.5 standard deviations.Comment: 26 pages, 3 figures. All figures and tables, along with any
