This module describes main characteristics of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). A brief history of PCBs is introduced in the first chapter. Then, the design processes and the fabrication of PCBs are addressed and finally a study case is presented in the last chapter of the module.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Valor taxonĂłmico de la pilosidad de los frutos en centranthus calcitrapae (l.) Dufresne (valerianaceae)

Two different phenotypes have been observed with regard to fruit hairiness in Centranthus calcitrapaethroughout the Iberian Península, Baleario Island and France: hirsute and glabrous fruits. In this paper the inheritance of this character in two Andalusian populations has been inferredby using artificial crossings. It has been shown that fruit hairiness is based on a simple two-allele mendelian locus being hairiness dominant over the recessive glabrous fruits. Therefore, this character should not be used for separation of taxa.

Study of PV systems for self-consumption at the UPC based on simulations by using PVSol

    Get PDF
The aim of this work is to carry out a sustainability study in five campuses of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya BarcelonaTech (UPC) around Catalunya, i.e. Campus North and South Campuses in Barcelona city, Campus Baix Llobregat, Campus Manresa and Campus Vilanova i la Geltrú. The amount of consumed energy included in the study for each campus corresponds to monitoring data of previous periods. The study analyses the expected energy production, as well as the self-consumption that can be achieved by using photovoltaic (PV) systems of 25, 50 and 100 kWp and c-Si, Poly or CdTe Technology in order to reduce the environmental impact in each campus. An economic analysis of all the proposed facilities was conducted to examine their financial feasibility.Peer ReviewedObjectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::7 - Energia Assequible i No ContaminantObjectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::4 - Educació de QualitatPostprint (published version

Innovation strategies to develop specific professional skills on photovoltaic systems engineering

    Get PDF
This work describes experiences learned in teaching photovoltaic (PV) courses in Engineering Master Degrees at the UPC. These PV courses are included as elective courses in the Master of Energy Engineering included in the international master programs: Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) and Renewable Energy (RENE) and in the Master Degree in Electronic Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. These Master Degrees are aligned with the objectives of the European SET plan and the objectives of KIC InnoEnergy in the field of renewable energies and aim at delivering education for high competency and quality engineering skills in the field. The content of these programmes is focused to the renewable technologies concept of “learning by doing”, so combining deep theory knowledge (top-down approach) with internship in industry co-advisored by the university and the industry (bottom-up approach) in an international environment

Analysis of spatial fixed PV arrays configurations to maximize energy harvesting in BIPV applications

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new approach for efficient utilization of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems under partial shading conditions in urban areas. The aim of this study is to find out the best electrical configuration by analyzing annual energy generation of the same BIPV system, in terms of nominal power, without changing physical locations of the PV modules in the PV arrays. For this purpose, the spatial structure of the PV system including the PV modules and the surrounding obstacles is taken into account on the basis of virtual reality environment. In this study, chimneys which are located on the residential roof-top area are considered to create the effect of shading over the PV array. The locations of PV modules are kept stationary, which is the main point of this paper, while comparing the performances of the configurations with the same surrounding obstacles that causes partial shading conditions. The same spatial structure with twelve distinct PV array configurations is considered. The same settling conditions on the roof-top area allow fair comparisons between PV array configurations. The payback time analysis is also performed with considering local and global maximum power points (MPPs) of PV arrays by comparing the annual energy yield of the different configurationsPeer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft

Fault detection and automatic supervision methodology for PV systems

    Get PDF
In this work, we show a new methodology for automatic supervision and fault detection of PV Systems, based mainly on the analysis of the power losses. This methodology includes parameter extraction techniques to calculate main PV system parameters from monitoring data [1-2], taking into account the real irradiance and module temperature, allowing simulation and evaluation of the PV system behaviour in real time.Postprint (published version
