Turbulence Quantification in Supercritical Nitrogen Injection: An Analysis of Turbulence Models

In Liquid Rocket Engines, higher combustion efficiencies come at the cost of the propellants exceeding their critical point conditions and entering the supercritical domain. The term fluid is used because, under these conditions, there is no longer a clear distinction between a liquid and a gas phase. The non-conventional behavior  of thermophysical properties makes the modeling of supercritical fluid flows a most challenging task. In the present work, a RANS computational method following an incompressible but variable density approach is devised on which the performance of several turbulence models is compared in conjunction with a high accuracy multi-parameter equation of state. Also, a suitable methodology to describe transport properties accounting for dense fluid corrections is applied. The results are validated against experimental data, becoming clear that there is no trend between turbulence model complexity and the quality of the produced results. For several instances, one- and two- equation turbulence models produce similar and better results than those  of Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Finally, considerations about the applicability of the tested turbulence models in supercritical simulations are given based on the results and the structural nature of each model. 3D finite element analysis and optimization of cap ply production system in the tire industry

They are a composite structure formed by multiple layers of different materials such as rubber compounds, steel and polyamide cords. Between the tread and steel belts, a cap ply layer is used to restrict the growth of the tire, due to centrifugal forces. Cap ply is produced by using a pultrusion process that impregnates polyamide cords with rubber, resulting in a rubberized strip. When the controlling of the process is incorrect, premature vulcanization or lack of impregnation is often observed. To optimize the production process, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations were performed to study the flow of rubber inside the extrusion head channels by modelling the fluid properties and the domain. Laboratory tests were also conducted to determine the physical and cure properties of the rubber compound used. Crossing the results of the simulations with the laboratory tests was found that the temperature control used was inadequate. Simulations were also supported with the results provided by a temperature sensor controlled by an external device (Arduino). By using a proportional integral derivative controller and changing the setpoints for the thermal resistance, the amount of scrap generated by vulcanized rubber and lack of rubber in the cap ply strips was reduced by 100%.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Requalificação de um campo de golfe com base na sustentabilidade ambiental

O golfe, enquanto atividade desportiva e cultural, por envolver a utilização de recursos naturais e ser uma atividade potencialmente influenciadora dos ecossistemas, tem visto a sua gestão debatida em diversos meios pela necessidade de serem repensadas medidas de gestão sustentável destes espaços. A utilização de medidas preventivas para a manutenção de espaços de qualidade envolve a ponderação das escolhas do tipo de relvado conciliando a sustentabilidade ambiental com os objetivos de cada área que constitui um campo de golfe, a gestão dos recursos hídricos e produtos fitofarmacêuticos adequando-os tanto à região como ao tipo de solo e às diferentes necessidades das culturas selecionadas. O estudo detalhado da requalificação de um campo de golfe na região algarvia pretende espelhar as diferentes etapas envolvidas neste processo repensando a escolha do sistema de rega, da relva e das diferentes variedades selecionadas, da aplicação de diferentes produtos fitofarmacêuticos e, por fim, comparar os consumos dos recursos hídricos quando selecionadas culturas com menores necessidades hídricas. Os resultados desta comparação foram ainda prematuros e inconclusivos, deixando um contributo teórico de diferentes pontos a considerar em investigações futuras

This paper presents an application to simulate dialogues (chatterbot) using the AIML language (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) with a new functionality to provide dynamic answers to database queries. This kind of applications is used to answer questions or doubts that are asked by people. Traditional systems are based in fixed answers using AIML language and they search answers in knowledge bases that offer low maintainability, compromising responses that require periodic updates. A new concept of automated manufacturing process for wire rope terminals

The metallic wire ropes used to open doors in the vehicles are based on a braided wire rope provided with accessories. The more expensive is the vehicle, the more complex is the required final wire rope. In order to prevent the corrosion and reduce noise, the internal metallic cable can be coated with a polymer via extrusion. However, this coating needs to be removed from the extremities of the metallic cable, allowing the zamak injection of the mechanical terminals, preventing die casting defects. Nevertheless, the standard machines able to produce the mechanical terminals by die casting process were always prepared to work only with non-coated metallic cable. Customers demanding coated metallic cables impose the need to adapt the standard machines to this new reality. Thus, new systems needed to be added to the standard machine, allowing the metallic cable strip operation. Moreover, this operation needs to be added to the process but without repercussions on the cycle time. Different approaches were studied and tested in order to find the best solution. The new device was designed and produced, allowing its test in real conditions. The system based on just one blade did not show satisfactory results, being necessary the use of a system based on multiple blades. The new device, when connected to the standard machine, allows to produce wire ropes up to 2.5 meters long, striped in both sides, letting the die casting injection of the zamak terminal in one extremity, with a cycle time of 7 seconds (1000 wire ropes per hour, as they are produced in couples).The authors would like to thank Mr. Mário Cardoso for his support and commitment with this work, providing all data necessary to carry out this development. Business Intelligence e os fatores de adesão nas empresas de saúde

A combinação dos dados de aplicações clínicas, financeiras e outras, que são essenciais para os hospitais, obtidos com auxílio de sistemas de inteligência, são uns dos benefícios que podem gerar o ponto de partida para a concepção de gestão adequada e que as estratégias sejam alcançadas. Este trabalho analisa os fatores organizacionais que dificultam a adesão aos softwares de business intelligence por empresas de saúde. Através de uma pesquisa do tipo exploratória, experimental, com utilização de survey, com abordagem quantitativa, utilizando questionário online e presencial, realizada com profissionais do setor de tecnologia de hospitais, procurou-se identificar aspectos envolvidos na implantação e na adesão para os sistemas de business intelligence. Na análise realizada, identificou-se que fator humano e alto custo de software de business intelligence ainda são obstáculos à aderência dessas ferramentas nos hospitais pesquisados

A relevância da cooperação como fator de promoção da competitividade empresarial: o caso InterCement

Num contexto atual de incerteza e constante mudança, cabe às empresas e aos seus stakeholders encetar estratégias de forma a enfrentar e antecipar os desafios a que são submetidos. Com este estudo é pretendido demonstrar como a cooperação entre empresas, é uma alavanca fundamental para o aumento da competitividade empresarial. Desde meados dos anos 80, as parcerias entre empresas eram poucas e limitadas na sua interação. A competição entre empresas não era tão complexa e como tal não estimulava tanto a inovação e diferenciação entre empresas. Face ao ritmo lento com que se desenrolavam as mudanças, as empresas não sentiam estímulos adicionais para o desenvolvimento de alianças e parcerias de forma a alavancar os seus resultados (Harbison e Pekar, 1999). Com a aceleração e desenvolvimento tecnológico, a abertura de economias até aí protegidas e sem influência externa e o aparecimento de novos mercados e novos clientes, as empresas tiveram de saber adaptar-se a este novo paradigma e terem capacidade para rapidamente se adaptarem e desenvolverem novas competências que até aí não tinham sentido necessidade. Com a crescente concorrência, um rápido crescimento de novas tecnologias e a pressão financeira, as empresas sentiram que tinham de se antecipar e ter agilidade para reagir a estas novas premissas e adquirir novas competências (Porter, 1990). Um dos meios que as empresas têm ao seu dispor para fazer face aos desafios atuais, passa pela cooperação empresarial. Esta é considerada um estímulo importante na medida em que se pode traduzir em benefícios concretos para as organizações envolvidas, como por exemplo, acesso a novas tecnologias, economias de escala e absorção de "know how" de forma mais célere e eficiente. É pretendido abordar esta temática com base num caso de estudo realizado na empresa InterCement, compreendendo as dinâmicas inerentes ao processo de cooperação para a inovação, abrindo espaço para estudos e implementação de novos processos que possam alavancar os resultados das empresas.In a current context of uncertainty and constant change, it is up to the companies and their stakeholders, to initiate strategies and anticipate the challenges they face. This study is intended to demonstrate how cooperation between companies is a key lever for increasing business competitiveness. Since the mid-1980s, partnerships between companies were few and limited in their interaction. The competition between companies was not so complex and therefore, it did not stimulate innovation and differentiation among companies. Given the slow pace of change, companies did not feel any additional stimulus for developing alliances and partnerships in order to leverage their results (Harbison and Pekar, 1999). With the acceleration and technological development, the opening up of protected economies without external influence and the emergence of new markets and new clients, companies had to adapt to this new paradigm and to have the capacity to rapidly adapt and develop new skills that until then, they didn´t need. With the increasing of competition, rapid growth of new technologies, and financial pressure, companies felt they had to anticipate and to have the agility to react to these new assumptions and acquire new skills (Porter, 1990). One of the means that companies have at their disposal to face the current challenges, is business cooperation. This is considered an important stimulus that can translate into tangible benefits for the organizations involved, such as access to new technologies, economies of scale and the absorption of know-how more quickly and efficiently. BREVE PANORAMA DAS INDICAÇÕES GEOGRÁFICAS DO NORDESTE BRASILEIRO E REFLEXÕES SOBRE OS NEGÓCIOS LOCAIS/ Brief overview of geographical indications of northeast Brazil and reflections on local business

Indicação Geográfica (IG) é o termo que identifica produto ou serviço característico de certa localidade, agregando valor ao bem e trazendo vantagens ao produtor, ao consumidor e à economia. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste artigo é apresentar conceitos acerca do reconhecimento das IG, traçando breve panorama das indicações da região Nordeste do Brasil, além de dispor das oportunidades e desafios para o fortalecimento de negócios locais. Para tanto, são utilizados dados dos portais Periódicos CAPES e biblioteca digital Scielo, além de consultas nos sites do INPI, IBGE e Sebrae. Como resultados destaca-se a necessidade da criação de políticas, além do aprofundamento de estudos em IG, pela sua importância econômica e social. Nota-se que os principais desafios estão nas dificuldades de gestão e alinhamento estratégico das IG, já as oportunidades são geradas com apoio de tecnologias digitais de informação e comunicação que inovam e fortalecem as IG e os negócios relacionados

EDUCAÇÃO ANTIRRACISTA: Potencialidades e Obstáculos

The present work focuses on a theoretical/bibliographical discussion that will investigate the academic production of articles centered on teaching practices guided by an anti-racist education and on the implications of these actions in the school as a public institution for the formation of social subjects. The objective is to amalgamate in the work, from the analysis of the selected scientific productions, the educational potentialities and obstacles faced in the school. It is understood that such works can reverberate in the awareness of teachers and encourage anti-racist practices from the school, which is invested with greater importance when we are faced with a Brazilian society marked by the existence and perpetuity of structural racism. Therefore, when researching anti-racist educational practices and the school as a school institution, inserted in a contemporary social context, an anti-racist potential is evident from the social reproduction in the dialogue between the historical structure and current contextual practices. Moreover, obstacles are found when the historical dimension is erased from the contemporary system of practices.El presente trabajo se centra en una discusión teórico/bibliográfica que investigará la producción académica de artículos centrados en las prácticas docentes orientadas por una educación antirracista y en las implicaciones de estas acciones en la escuela como institución pública para la formación de sujetos sociales. El objetivo es amalgamar en el trabajo, a partir del análisis de las producciones científicas seleccionadas, las potencialidades educativas y los obstáculos enfrentados en la escuela. Se entiende que tales obras pueden repercutir en la conciencia de los docentes y fomentar prácticas antirracistas desde la escuela, lo que adquiere mayor importancia cuando nos enfrentamos a una sociedad brasileña marcada por la existencia y perpetuidad del racismo estructural. Por lo tanto, al investigar las prácticas educativas antirracistas y la escuela como institución escolar, inserta en un contexto social contemporáneo, se evidencia un potencial antirracista desde la reproducción social en el diálogo entre la estructura histórica y las prácticas contextuales actuales. Además, se encuentran obstáculos cuando se borra la dimensión histórica del sistema de prácticas contemporáneo.O presente trabalho tem como foco uma discussão de cunho teórico/bibliográfico que vai investigar a produção acadêmica de artigos com foco em práticas docentes pautadas por uma educação antirracista e nas implicações dessas ações na escola como instituição pública de formação dos sujeitos sociais. A expectativa é de amalgamar no trabalho, minimamente, as possíveis potencialidades educativas e obstáculos enfrentados na escola e que tenham sido abordados por trabalhos publicados em uma importante plataforma digital de divulgação de pesquisas acadêmicas.
