Non trivial critical exponents for finite temperature chiral transitions at fixed total fermion number

    Get PDF
We analyze the finite temperature chiral restoration transition of the (D=d+1)(D=d+1)-dimensional Gross-Neveu model for the case of a large number of flavors and fixed total fermion number. This leads to the study of the model with a nonzero imaginary chemical potential. In this formulation of the theory, we have obtained that, in the transition region, the model is described by a chiral conformal field theory where the concepts of dimensional reduction and universality do apply due to a transmutation of statistics which makes fermions act as if they were bosons, having zero energy. This result should be generic for theories with dynamical symmetry breaking, such as Quantum Chromodynamics.Comment: 14 pages Latex, no figures, final version to be published in Phys. Lett.

Estudo do efeito do solvente de extração na atividade antioxidante das sementes de chia

A chia (Salvia hispanica L.) é uma planta herbácea pertencente à família Lamiaceae, cultivada sobretudo no México, Bolívia, Argentina, Equador e Guatemala. One-loop dimensional reduction of the linear sigma model

We perform the dimensional reduction of the linear σ\sigma model at one-loop level. The effective potential of the reduced theory obtained from the integration over the nonzero Matsubara frequencies is exhibited. Thermal mass and coupling constant renormalization constants are given, as well as the thermal renormalization group equation which controls the dependence of the counterterms on the temperature. We also recover, for the reduced theory, the vacuum unstability of the model for large N.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, no figures, to be submitted to Physica

Do the developments in telecommunication leads to the Solow paradox on economic growth in Turkey?

    Get PDF
Telecommunications infrastructure is critical not only for domestic growth, but also for combining credit with international commodity and financial markets, such as the smooth flow of foreign investment, facilitating the positive value of net exports, and increasing the added value in the economy's GDP. In this study, fixed telephone lines in the period since the Republic of Turkey, is to investigate whether mobile phone and affect the economic growth of the telecommunications sector showing growth in internet connection. In our study, the penetration rate represents the development of telecommunications industry. Penetration rate is defined as the number of fixed line and mobile phone subscribers per 100 people. In order to measure the penetration rate in Turkey, we have used the ratio of the total number of fixed line, mobile subscribers and internet users to the population, taking into account the dates when mobile communication and the internet started. Economic growth is represented as the rate of change to Gross Domestic Product. The data used in this study cover an annual period 1935-2017. After investigating the stationarity of the series of variables, a causal relationship between the Toda-Yamamoto causality test and the penetration rate and GDP change rate series was examined. The findings of the analysis, the development of telecommunications in Turkey revealed that does not affect economic growth. According to this result, the Solow paradox is valid in the period examined in Turkey.peer-reviewe

Value stream mapping as a lean manufacturing tool: A new account approach for cost saving in a textile company

    Get PDF
[EN] Companies around the world are under pressure to reduce their prices to be competitive. In order to keep profitability, they are adopting lean manufacturing (LM) and its tools to reduce waste and, consequently, the costs. Value stream mapping (VSM) is an efficient LM tool, identifying production flow waste. When it is possible to combine VSM with other LM tool, such as Kanban, a substantial impact in inventory reduction is reached. Additionally, the conventional account system shows limitations in the costs reduction to keep up with LM. The purpose of this paper is to present the results obtained by the application of the VSM combined with Kanban and the new account approach to measure the effectiveness of the cost reduction in the finished goods inventory. Considering that LM tools application in the textile segment has not an expressive number of researches, four hypothesis are presented and validated. The findings are discussed and finally, the research limitations and the practical implications originated by this work are presented as well as topics for further researches are suggested.Carvalho, C.; Carvalho, D.; Silva, M. Variation of growth performance of the striped venus clam Chamelea gallina (Mollusca: Bivalvia) (Linnaeus, 1758) in relation to environmental variables along the southern part of its geographic range

    Get PDF
This study reports relative growth, shell length-age keys and growth performance indices (overall growth performance (OGP) and phi prime) for the striped venus Chamelea gallina from the Huelva coast in southwest (SW) Spain. The morphometric relationship shell height (SH)/shell length (SL) presented isometric growth whereas SL/shell width (SW) and SL/weight (W) displayed negative allometric growth. Shell length at age was estimated through length-frequency distribution (LF) and internal shell growth bands by acetate peel method (AP). C. gallina population consists mainly of three age classes with shell lengths around 13-15 mm for the first year, 25 mm for the second year and 30 mm for the third year. The OGP and phi prime values obtained in the present study are within the range of values for other C. gallina populations from the Gulf of Cádiz. Nevertheless, marked differences in growth performance were observed between populations from the Black Sea (lower growth performance) and from other locations along the southern distribution area of this species, which may be related to the low levels of temperature (SST), salinity (SSS) and chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration that exhibit large intra-annual fluctuations.En prensa0,371

Dimensional reduction of the chiral-continous Gross-Neveu model

    Get PDF
We study the finite-temperature phase transition of the generalized Gross-Neveu model with continous chiral symmetry in 2<d42 < d \leq 4 euclidean dimensions. The critical exponents are computed to the leading order in the 1/N1/N expansion at both zero and finite temperatures. A dimensionally reduced theory is obtained after the introduction of thermal counterterms necessary to cancel thermal divergences that arise in the limit of high temperature. Although at zero temperature we have an infinitely and continously degenerate vacuum state, we show that at finite temperature this degeneracy is discrete and, depending on the values of the bare parameters, we may have either total or partial restoration of symmetry. Finally we determine the universality class of the reduced theory by a simple analysis of the infrared structure of thermodynamic quantities computed using the reduced action as starting point.Comment: Latex, 25 pages, 4 eps fig., uses epsf.sty and epsf.te
