Asynchronous Message Transmission Technique for Latency Requirements in Time Critical Ship-borne System
A solution to data ageing requirements in time critical ship system like fire control system is presented. In an operational sea borne platform, navigation requirements for the onboard systems are fulfilled by ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system. For critical systems like fire control system, navigational data must be delivered in real time without any delay. However due to delay occurring in processing of raw information and transmission of data on interface bus some latency is introduced. Algorithm for an asynchronous message transmission technique from inertial navigation system to user system to meet its latency requirements is discussed. Latency requirement is achieved by sending a separate message with the time stamp for the instance the first byte of 100 Hz attitude data is received at the processing computer of navigation system.
Video Object Detection with an Aligned Spatial-Temporal Memory
We introduce Spatial-Temporal Memory Networks for video object detection. At
its core, a novel Spatial-Temporal Memory module (STMM) serves as the recurrent
computation unit to model long-term temporal appearance and motion dynamics.
The STMM's design enables full integration of pretrained backbone CNN weights,
which we find to be critical for accurate detection. Furthermore, in order to
tackle object motion in videos, we propose a novel MatchTrans module to align
the spatial-temporal memory from frame to frame. Our method produces
state-of-the-art results on the benchmark ImageNet VID dataset, and our
ablative studies clearly demonstrate the contribution of our different design

Ethno-Medicinal Profile of Different Plant Parts of Clotropis procera (AIt.) R. Br.
The present paper reviews the literature on recent ethno medicinal uses of every plant part of Calotropis procera (1968-2009) and its medicinal properties used for the treatment of various ailments as in the case of many types of fevers, rheumatism, indigestion, cough, cold, eczema, asthma, elephantiasis, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, etc. The review includes accounts of medicinal values of all parts of the plant that have been used in folk medicine as a remedy. The name and parts of the plant studied, the spectrum of activity, and methods used are discussed in this review paper
Investigation of complete and incomplete fusion in Li+Sn reaction around Coulomb barrier energies
The complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for Li+Sn
reaction were measured using online and offline characteristic -ray
detection techniques. The complete fusion (CF) cross sections at energies above
the Coulomb barrier were found to be suppressed by 26 \% compared to the
coupled channel calculations. This suppression observed in complete fusion
cross sections is found to be commensurate with the measured total incomplete
fusion (ICF) cross sections. There is a distinct feature observed in the ICF
cross sections, i.e., -capture is found to be dominant than
-capture at all the measured energies. A simultaneous explanation of
complete, incomplete and total fusion (TF) data was also obtained from the
calculations based on Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel method with short
range imaginary potentials. The cross section ratios of CF/TF and ICF/TF
obtained from the data as well as the calculations showed the dominance of ICF
at below barrier energies and CF at above barrier energies.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure
Probing pre-formed alpha particles in the ground state of nuclei
In this Letter, we report on alpha particle emission through the nuclear
break-up in the reaction 40Ca on a 40Ca target at 50A MeV. It is observed that,
similarly to nucleons, alpha particles can be emitted to the continuum with
very specific angular distribution during the reaction. The alpha particle
properties can be understood as resulting from an alpha cluster in the daughter
nucleus that is perturbed by the short range nuclear attraction of the
collision partner and emitted. A time-dependent theory that describe the alpha
particle wave-function evolution is able to reproduce qualitatively the
observed angular distribution. This mechanism offers new possibilities to study
alpha particle properties in the nuclear medium.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Suboptimal chlorine treatment of drinking water leads to selection of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa
The present study was undertaken to investigate the spectrum of bacteria present in the River Gomti water before and after chlorination for drinking purposes. We observed that the strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa that survived chlorination on three out of seven occasions were resistant to almost all the antibiotics tested. The chlorine-resistant bacteria had mucoid colonies and grew better at 24° C. All attempts to isolate the plasmid responsible for chlorine resistance were unsuccessful. Laboratory experiments using different strains of the P. aeruginosa in distilled water showed that only the resistant strain survived chlorine treatment at a dose of ≤500 μ g/L. Similar results were obtained when water collected from seven different sites on the River Gomti was treated with graded doses of chlorine. At the higher dose of chlorine, all the bacteria died in 30 min, whereas with lower doses all the bacteria survived. The present study underscores the importance of measuring water chlorine concentrations to assure they are sufficiently high to remove pathogenic bacteria from drinking water. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of the selection of multidrug-resistant bacteria by suboptimal chlorine treatment of water
Six senses while considering hydatid cyst as a differential for a swelling at nape of the neck: a case report
While cervical swellings usually are located in anterior midline like thyroglossal cyst, thyroid swellings, or in antero-lateral aspect of neck like cold abscess, branchial cyst, lymphangioma, cervical lymphadenopathy etc. Nape of the neck swelling is even less common with differentials including lipoma, sebaceous cyst, lymphangioma, etc. Hydatid cyst (HC) is often missed as a differential resulting in intraoperative surprises. This case report might change the mind of the readers to keep HC in back of their minds while approaching a case of swelling of the neck. Here we report a case of 15 years’ female who presented with swelling of nape of neck which on evaluation was inclining towards lipoma/epidermal cyst. With an intention for surgical exploration and excision, the patient was taken for operation, where we discovered it to be HC and the same was later confirmed by histopathology as well. Because of its rare presentation the primary diagnosis of HC is often missed out in spite of having sensitive cytology and imaging modalities. Hence, by reporting this case we intend to emphasize six facts a clinician, a radiologist and also a pathologist must consider while keeping primary HC at an unusual site as a differential diagnosis.
Direct Evidence of Multi-Bubble Sonoluminescence using Therapeutic Ultrasound and Microbubbles
The
intense conditions generated in the core of a collapsing bubble
have been the subject of intense scrutiny from fields as diverse as
marine biology and nuclear fusion. In particular, the phenomenon of
sonoluminescence, whereby a collapsing bubble emits light, has received
significant attention. Sonoluminescence has been associated predominantly
with millimeter-sized bubbles excited at low frequencies and under
conditions far removed from those associated with the use of ultrasound
in medicine. In this study, however, we demonstrate that sonoluminescence
is produced under medically relevant exposure conditions by microbubbles
commonly used as contrast agents for ultrasound imaging. This provides
a mechanistic explanation for the somewhat controversial reports of
“sonodynamic” therapy, in which light-sensitive drugs
have been shown to be activated by ultrasound-induced cavitation.
To illustrate this, we demonstrate the activation of a photodynamic
therapy agent using microbubbles and ultrasound. Since ultrasound
can be accurately focused at large tissue depths, this opens up the
potential for generating light at locations that cannot be reached
by external sources. This could be exploited both for diagnostic and
therapeutic applications, significantly increasing the range of applications
that are currently restricted by the limited penetration of light
in the tissue
Coarse grained description of the protein folding
We consider two- and three-dimensional lattice models of proteins which were
characterized previously. We coarse grain their folding dynamics by reducing it
to transitions between effective states. We consider two methods of selection
of the effective states. The first method is based on the steepest descent
mapping of states to underlying local energy minima and the other involves an
additional projection to maximally compact conformations. Both methods generate
connectivity patterns that allow to distinguish between the good and bad
folders. Connectivity graphs corresponding to the folding funnel have few loops
and are thus tree-like. The Arrhenius law for the median folding time of a
16-monomer sequence is established and the corresponding barrier is related to
