Performance Evaluation of the Control Plane in OpenFlow Networks
Online services and applications have grown rapidly in the last decade. The network is necessary for many services and applications. Many technologies are invented to meet the requirements of online services, such as micro-services and serverless computing. However, the traditional network architecture suffers from several shortages. It is difficult for the traditional network to adapt to new demands without massive reconfiguration. In traditional IP networks, it is complex to manage and configure the network devices since skilled technicians are required. Changing the policy of a network is also time consuming because network operators need to re-configure multiple network devices and update access control lists using low level commands. The management and configuration becomes more complex and challenging, when the traffic in a network changes frequently. SDN (Software-defined networking) is an innovative approach to manage networks more flexible. It separates the control plane from forwarding devices and uses a centralized controller to manipulate all the forwarding devices. The separation offers many benefits in terms of network flexibility and management. The controller can provide a global view of a network. Using the controller, network operators can manage and configure all the network devices at a high level interface. With SDN, a network can adapt to new demands by updating the applications in the controller. However, all these benefits come with a performance penalty. Since the controller manipulates all the forwarding devices, the performance of the controller impacts the performance of the whole network. In this thesis, we investigate the performance of SDN controllers. We also implement a benchmark tool for OpenFlow controllers. It measures the response time of an OpenFlow controller and fit a phase-type distribution to the response time. Based on the distribution of the response time, we build a queueing model for multiple controllers in an OpenFlow network and determine the optimal number of controllers that can minimize the response time of the controllers. We design an algorithm that can optimize the mapping relationship among the switches and controllers. The load of controllers can be balanced with the optimized mapping relationship
Multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm for multi-step electric load forecasting
As energy saving becomes more and more popular, electric load forecasting has played a more and more crucial role in power management systems in the last few years. Because of the real-time characteristic of electricity and the uncertainty change of an electric load, realizing the accuracy and stability of electric load forecasting is a challenging task. Many predecessors have obtained the expected forecasting results by various methods. Considering the stability of time series prediction, a novel combined electric load forecasting, which based on extreme learning machine (ELM), recurrent neural network (RNN), and support vector machines (SVMs), was proposed. The combined model first uses three neural networks to forecast the electric load data separately considering that the single model has inevitable disadvantages, the combined model applies the multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm (MOPSO) to optimize the parameters. In order to verify the capacity of the proposed combined model, 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step are used to forecast the electric load data of three Australian states, including New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria. The experimental results intuitively indicate that for these three datasets, the combined model outperforms all three individual models used for comparison, which demonstrates its superior capability in terms of accuracy and stability
Enhancing Biomedical Text Summarization Using Semantic Relation Extraction
Automatic text summarization for a biomedical concept can help researchers to get the key points of a certain topic from large amount of biomedical literature efficiently. In this paper, we present a method for generating text summary for a given biomedical concept, e.g., H1N1 disease, from multiple documents based on semantic relation extraction. Our approach includes three stages: 1) We extract semantic relations in each sentence using the semantic knowledge representation tool SemRep. 2) We develop a relation-level retrieval method to select the relations most relevant to each query concept and visualize them in a graphic representation. 3) For relations in the relevant set, we extract informative sentences that can interpret them from the document collection to generate text summary using an information retrieval based method. Our major focus in this work is to investigate the contribution of semantic relation extraction to the task of biomedical text summarization. The experimental results on summarization for a set of diseases show that the introduction of semantic knowledge improves the performance and our results are better than the MEAD system, a well-known tool for text summarization
Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in -tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton
collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against
a boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and
transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range . The
data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy
of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb. Triple
differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum
fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also
measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent
fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the
measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into
the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any

Study of the decay

Search for the doubly charmed baryon Ω cc +
Abstract: A search for the doubly charmed baryon Ωcc+ with the decay mode Ωcc+ â Îc+KâÏ+ is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fbâ1. No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0GeV/c2. Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the Ωcc+ â Îc+KâÏ+ decay with respect to the Îcc++âÎc+KâÏ+Ï+ decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for different hypotheses on the Ωcc+ mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c

An Ontology-based Knowledge Matching Algorithm for the Strategic Study
This paper is concerned with the question of how to provide knowledge support for the strategic study. An ontology-based matching algorithm is presented. The algorithm consists of four steps. First, we introduce how to build the knowledge tree. The knowledge tree is the explicit specification of the documents collected. Every document can be found in the nodes of the knowledge tree. The knowledge tree starts with extracting the framework of the books with respect to a subject and will be completed by hanging the documents on the nodes of the framework. Second, we introduce how to build the question tree. The question tree gives the explicit specification of one question by analyzing it. Third, the relations of the nodes between the knowledge tree and the question tree are discussed. Finally, different matching algorithms are proposed according to the relevant relations. The documents hung on the matched nodes of the knowledge tree can support the researchers on studying the strategic question. The original publication is available at JAIST Press http://www.jaist.ac.jp/library/jaist-press/index.htmlIFSR 2005 : Proceedings of the First World Congress of the International Federation for Systems Research : The New Roles of Systems Sciences For a Knowledge-based Society : Nov. 14-17, 2135, Kobe, JapanSymposium 6, Session 5 : Vision of Knowledge Civilization Future Computataion
