    Multiband tunneling in trilayer graphene

    The electronic tunneling properties of the two stable forms of trilayer graphene (TLG), rhombohedral ABC and Bernal ABA, are examined for pn and pnp junctions as realized by using a single gate (SG) or a double gate (DG). For the rhombohedral form, due to the chirality of the electrons, the Klein paradox is found at normal incidence for SG devices while at high energy interband scattering between additional propagation modes can occur. The electrons in Bernal ABA TLG can have a monolayer- or bilayer-like character when incident on a SG device. Using a DG however both propagation modes will couple by breaking the mirror symmetry of the system which induces intermode scattering and resonances that depend on the width of the DG pnp junction. For ABC TLG the DG opens up a band gap which suppresses Klein tunneling. The DG induces also an unexpected asymmetry in the tunneling angle for single valley electrons

    Career Decision Regrets in Faculty of Sport Sciences

    University education as an important choice shapes the professional career. Career in sport is difficult than the other professional areas. Because the professional career process in sport is different from the classical occupational choices. Sometimes individuals feel career regret in difficult experiences. Then the negative feelings become a depression, loss of self-confidence etc. So, the purpose of this study was to determine the career decision regrets of students in faculty of sport sciences. The most commonly technique in descriptive research models, the survey method is used in the study. The study group consisted of 400 students from the four different departments in Bartın University, Faculty of Sport Sciences. In the study, individual information form which had developed by the researchers and ā€˜Career Decision Regret Scaleā€™ was used. Descriptive statistics, t-test for independent groups and one-way Anova tests were used as statistical methods to analyze the data. As a result, it was determined that the students who are studying at the Department of Sports Sciences in Bartın University had a little regret of career decisions and the scale scores of the students differed significantly according to their age, departments, grade, place of birth, academic average, residence place, part time working, fathersā€™ working statute and educational level. The fact that the study group consists of only one university is seen as a limitation. Therefore, for future studies it may be suggested to increase the number of participants by joining the different universitiesā€™ students in the Departments of Sports Sciences

    Seismic strengthening of beam-column joints with multidirectional CFRP laminates

    An experimental program was carried out to analyse the potentialities of a technique based on the use of multidirectional CFRP laminates (MDL-CFRP) for the seismic repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints. This experimental program comprises cyclic tests on three full-scale RC joints, representative of interior beam-column connections in buildings. The joints were initially submitted to a cyclic test inducing a damage pattern representative of a seismic event. Subsequently, they were repaired and strengthened with MDL-CFRP. The strengthened joints were then tested for the same loading history of the original ones up to their failure. The adopted strengthening technique uses the MDL-CFRP that are simultaneously glued and anchored to the concrete surfaces. This technique is called Mechanically Fastened and Externally Bonded Reinforcement (MF-EBR). In the present study, the effectiveness of two different strengthening configurations was investigated. The tests are described and the main results are presented and analyzed

    Drug-induced pemphigus

    Drug-induced pemphigus can be induced or triggered by drugs, most often by penicillamine and other thiol-associated drugs. The time from first intake of the drug to onset of the reaction is often relatively long compared to other cutaneous adverse drug reactions. Clinically it presents most often as pemphigus vulgaris or pemphigus foliaceus. Opposing to idiopathic pemphigus, pruritus, a prodromal stage and absence of mucosal involvement are regularly observed, while immunopathological findings are similar. The pathogenesis is not completely known, but probably includes endogenous and exogenous factors, and is likely based on both a biochemical and immunological process. Withdrawal of the culprit drug is mandatory and can result in remission, although the disease not always subsides, especially in cases caused by non-thiol drugs. Additionally, drugs may also cause a flare or exacerbation of pre-existing pemphigus.</p

    This paper describes a miniature thermoelectric power plant made with the boiler and the water pump from an old starch iron. It also uses a computer cooling fan, which serves as electric power generator. The boiler vaporizes the water it receives from the water pump. Then, the steam is injected over the turbine of the fan making it twirl. The voltage generated by the fan is enough to lighten a couple of LEDs.     Body Height Increased of New Student of Udayana University 1990 and 2000

    Changes in body height have been affected by many factors among others genetic,health, hormonal, social economic, exercise, nutrition intake, etc. It was due toimportance physiology parameter to determine growth and nutrition conditioned of thepeople. Income per capita in West Countries higher than Asian includes Indonesian.Some approximates of mean the body height were done on Norwegian and USA isincreasing, up to 13 mm and 10 mm until ten years. Further, the assumption of nutritionintake is increasing for mothers and infant, unanimously increasing of Bali (Indonesian)gross domestic product until 1975 - 1980. So that body height has been increased to nextgeneration. A total of 3.917 subject on 1990, divided in to 2.340 male and 1.577 female students and 1.218 subject on 2000 divided in to 525 male and 693 female students. Theresult showed that body height has been increased for male and female 22,1 mm; 19.88mm, respectively

    Transport and Spectroscopic Studies of the Effects of Fullerene Structure on the Efficiency and Lifetime of Polythiophene-based Solar Cells

    Time-dependent measurements of both power conversion efficiency and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy have been observed for solar cell blends containing the polymer poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) with two different functionalized C60 electron acceptor molecules: commercially available [6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) or [6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid octadecyl ester (PCBOD) produced in this laboratory. Efficiency was found to decay with an exponential time dependence, while spectroscopic features show saturating exponential behavior. Time constants extracted from both types of measurements showed reasonable agreement for samples produced from the same blend. In comparison to the PCBM samples, the stability of the PCBOD blends was significantly enhanced, while both absorption and power conversion efficiency were decreased.Comment: manuscript submitted to Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cell

    Shear capacity of HPFRC beams flexurally reinforced with steel and prestressed GFRP bars

    This paper presents the relevant results from an experimental program to assess the shear capacity of high performance fiber reinforced concrete (HPFRC) beams flexurally reinforced with a hybrid system of passive steel and prestressed GFRP longitudinal bars. Three series of two beams with different level of prestressing were tested. The effect of prestressing level on the shear capacity of the beams was the main investigated parameter. The results showed an enhancement of the load carrying capacity, ductility and energy absorption with the increase of the prestress level. Based on the obtained results, the predictive performance of the analytical formulations of CEB-FIP Model Code 2010 and RILEM TC 162-TDF for the shear capacity of FRC beams was assessed. Both formulations seem appropriate for design purposes, but the CEB-FIP formulation predicts more conservative shear capacity. The experimental results demonstrated that the prestressing level has an effect on the shear capacity much higher than the one recommended by the codes
