    Estimating Damaged Volume of Historic Pagodas in Bagan after Earthquake using 3D Hough Transform

    On 24th August 2016, the magnitude of a 6.8 earthquake struck in Bagan from the depth of 52 miles. This earthquake caused much damage in historic pagodas in Bagan, one of the archeological houses in Asia. Analyzing the affected areas is an essential task for the restoration and reconstruction of historic buildings after a disaster. Traditional methods of detecting damage to buildings focus on detecting 2D changes (i.e., only the appearance of the image), but the 2D information provided by the image is not sufficient when it involves detecting damage to buildings is often not precise. For finding out the solution, a method of 3D change detection is needed for estimating the volumes of damaged pagodas after the earthquake. The proposed system aims at producing a quick assessment of the damaged pagodas accurately and correctly. This system estimates the damaged volume of the pagoda based on the nature of the 3D point clouds. Post-earthquake photos are taken using an anonymous aircraft (UAV) and point cloud data is generated using VisualSFM software. The 3D Hough transform is used to find the intersection of the tower vertex and the 3D vertex at the line boundary. Besides, the proposed system can detect the reformed structure of the entire pagoda. The results show that the proposed approach facilitates the automated 3D detection of damaged pagodas and is a time-saving method for estimating the volume of damage caused to precious historic pagodas after a disaster

    View Synthesizing for a Large-Scale Object in a Scene

    A robust method for panorama view reconstruction of a scene is presented. The images of a scene are acquired by moving a camera to multiple viewpoints. We present a robust method of panorama synthesizing based on image mosaicing approach. The edge detection and feature points extraction are performed for each image. The corresponding feature points between two successive images are estimated and the between these images is computed. These two images are integrated based on the different of minimum threshold values between them. After that, the full-view of a scene is reconstructed by merging the successive integrated images by developed image mosaicing approach. This research describes how to establish feature correspondences between images accurately and effectively. Image registration technique provides an initial estimation for establishing feature correspondences of point features. The linear solution with the reliable correspondences makes the computation of the geometric transformation between two images

    Authentications of Myanmar National Registration Card

    The automatic identification system of Myanmar national registration card (NRC) holder is presented in this paper. The proposed system can be handled the identification by the extracted low quality face image and fingerprint image from Myanmar NRC. Both of the facial recognition and fingerprint recognition system are developed for Myanmar citizenship confirmation. Age invariant face recognition algorithm is performed based on combination of DiaPCA (Diagonal principal Component Analysis) and KNN (Kth nearest neighbor classifier) approaches. An algorithm of the fingerprint recognition is proposed for recognition of the poor quality fingerprint image with fabric background.  Several experiments have been done for confirming the effectiveness of the proposed approach

    Dry season water strategies in Myanmar after cyclone Nargis

    For many residents of the Ayeyarwady Delta of Myanmar, rainwater collection from village ponds and roof tops serves as the primary source of potable water throughout the year. In May 2008, Cyclone Nargis struck the Delta region, damaging many of these ponds by breaching their embankments or filling them with debris and saline water. Despite the efforts of the international aid community and local government to repair and rehabilitate these traditional water sources, concerns remain about a potential water crisis affecting thousands of Ayeyarwady Delta residents during the dry season from November to April. This paper examines the different water rehabilitation and supply strategies adopted by relief agencies and communities during the second half of 2008 to mitigate possible water shortages in 2009
