Prevalencia y factores de riesgo asociados a la presencia de salmonella spp., en canales avicolas comercializadas en Ibagu?, Tolima

El status sanitario de la carne cruda de pollo comercializada en Ibagu?, Tolima, es actualmente desconocido. Para abordar este problema, se llev? a cabo un estudio de corte transversal para estimar la prevalencia de Salmonella spp., en carne cruda de pollo, comercializada en diferentes tipos de expendios. Salmonella spp., fue aislada mediante m?todos microbiol?gicos est?ndar, seguidos por confirmaci?n serol?gica y molecular, todos los aislamientos fueron serotipificados mediante el esquema tradicional de Kauffman-White. Adicionalmente, se identificaron factores de riesgo asociados a la presencia de la bacteria. La prevalencia de Salmonella en la carne de pollo fue de 17,41% (47/270), en donde se encontraron 14 serotipos diferentes, de los cuales S. paratyphi B (36.17%), S. hvittingfoss (19.15%) y S. muenster (10.64%), representaron el 65,95% de los aislamientos. La amplificaci?n de un fragmento de 284 pb del gen invA, fue exitosa mediante PCR en un n?mero de muestras seleccionadas aleatoriamente. La venta de canales av?colas como ?nico tipo de c?rnico comercializado (Odds ratio: 2,157, p<0.05) y la presencia de acero inoxidable como superficie de contacto (Odds ratio: 13,29, p<0.05), fueron identificados como factores de riesgo asociados a la presencia de Salmonella. Este trabajo sirve como referencia para el estado de Salmonella en pollo crudo comercializado en Ibagu?, Tolima durante el periodo de febrero a mayo de 2014, e indica la necesidad de establecer medidas de control y contingencia apropiadas para minimizar la presencia de la bacteria en el pollo crudo y limitar su transmisi?n a los seres humanos.ABSTRACT. Salmonella enterica is a large group of Gram-negative bacteria responsible for a number of alimentary toxic infections associated with the consumption of contaminated poultry products. The sanitary status of raw chicken meat marketed at Ibague, Tolima is currently unknown. To address this issue, a cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of Salmonella spp., in raw chicken marketed at different outlets in this city. Salmonella spp., was isolated by standard microbiological methods, followed by biochemical, serological and molecular confirmation and all isolates were serotyped by conventional Kauffman-White scheme. Additionally, risk factors associated with the presence of the bacteria were identified. The prevalence of Salmonella in raw chicken meat was 17.41% (47/270), 14 different serotypes were found, of which S. paratyphi B (36.17%), S. hvittingfoss (19.15%) and S. muenster (10.64%) represented 65,95% of all serotypes in this study. Amplification of 284 bp of the invA gene was achieved by PCR in a number of randomly selected isolates. Raw chicken as the only type of meat sold at stores (Odds ratio: 2,157, p<0.05), and stainless steel as the contact surface of chicken meat (Odds ratio: 13,29 , p<0.05), were found to be potential risk factors for the presence of Salmonella in chicken meat. This work serves as a reference about the current status of Salmonella in chicken meat marketed in Ibague, Tolima during the period February-May 2014, and indicates the need to establish appropriate control and contingency measures to minimize the presence of the bacteria in raw chicken and limit its transmission to humans.1. Characterisation of liquid food colour from digital images

The characteristic colour of translucent liquid foods is defined as the colour values at infinite depth, where the liquid depth and the background effects are surpassed. A measurement cell with variable depth was built, and the L*a*b* colour was measured from digital images. Colour versus depth was fitted to an exponential equation, from which the characteristic colour was obtained. Thirteen different liquids were tested with this methodology and compared with spectrophotometer measurements. The average total colour difference between approaches was 50.85 ± 18.89. Hybridization between yellow-billed cardinal paroaria capitata and red-crested cardinal P. Coronata in southern Argentina

The genus Paroaria is a group of conspicuous songbirds widely distributed in South America that has been studied recently to delimit its species and establish their phylogenetic relationships. Although hybridization has been reported between the most phylogenetically related species of the genus, we here present a case of hybridization between the Yellow-billed Cardinal (P. capitata) and Red-crested Cardinal (P. coronata) for the first time, two phylogenetically unrelated members of the group. Propuesta de tiendas escolares saludables con inclusión social y construcción de seguridad alimentaria y nutricional en comunidades educativas del municipio de Madrid Cundinamarca

Con el propósito de establecer una propuesta metodológica que apunte a la transformación de las tiendas escolares en entornos saludables y con conexión con tres Instituciones Educativas Departamentales del municipio de Madrid, proponiendo alternativas de inclusión social y SAN, se desarrolló el presente proyecto recurriendo en una exploración cuantitativa y cualitativa. La investigación caracterizó las tiendas escolares existentes en las instituciones educativas por medio de encuestas, con el fin de reconocer la oferta de alimentos y el cumplimiento de la resolución vigente en el territorio; y de entrevistas semiestructuradas, identificando la opinión y percepción de los consumidores, comercializadores, productores y de otros actores sobre la tienda escolar, con el fin de conocer sus puntos de vista. Se obtuvo un conjunto de información que se utilizó para generar insumos para la formulación de políticas municipales que rijan las Tiendas Escolares Saludables - TES en el municipio de Madrid. Los resultados obtenidos ofrecen aspectos y recomendaciones que apuntan a transformar algunos aspectos de las tiendas escolares tradicionales en TES, es decir, que lleguen a ser entornos saludables, de tal manera que avancen a ser escenarios generadores de equidad que incluyan a los proveedores locales, para así construir procesos de SAN que beneficien a los actores involucrados y beneficiados de las tiendas en las comunidades educativas del municipio de Madrid, Cundinamarca. Se identificó que la participación de los actores, la inclusión de mecanismos de control social, y programas de educación alimentaria y nutricional enfocados en generar equidad, son opciones posibles para llegar a TES incluyentes y sostenibles.Abstract: With the purpose of establishing a methodological proposal that points to the transformation of school stores in healthy environments and with connection to three Departmental Educational Institutions of the municipality of Madrid, proposing alternatives for social inclusion and SAN, the present project was developed using an exploration quantitative and qualitative. The research characterized the existing school stores in educational institutions through surveys, in order to recognize the supply of food and compliance with the actual resolution in the territory; and semi-structured interviews, identifying the opinion and perception of consumers, marketers, producers and other actors about the school store, in order to know their points of view. A set of information was obtained that was used to generate inputs for the formulation of municipal policies governing Healthy School Stores HSS in the municipality of Madrid. The results obtained offer aspects and recommendations that aim to transform some aspects of traditional school stores in HSS they become healthy environments, in such a way that they become equity generating scenarios that include local suppliers, to thus build SAN processes that benefit the actors involved and benefited from the stores in the educational communities of the municipality of Madrid, Cundinamarca. It was identified that the participation of the actors, the inclusion of social control mechanisms, and food and nutrition education programs focused on generating equity, are possible options to reach inclusive and sustainable HSSMaestrí

Struvite crystallization

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for removing phosphorus from phosphorus containing waste. In one embodiment, the method is preferably carried out by contacting the phosphorus containing waste with a non-cellular membrane and precipitating phosphorus from the waste as struvite. Another aspect of the invention includes a method of removing phosphorus from phosphorus containing sewage comprising filtrates and biosolids. The removal of phosphorus as struvite occurs in two stages as primary and secondary removal. In the primary removal process, the sewage from a dewatering unit is contacted with a first polymeric membrane reactor and the phosphorus is removed as primary struvite. Subsequently Mg is added so as promote struvite formation and the secondary removal process of struvite.
