Creating Awareness for the Use of OpenSource Systems in the Public Sector in Afghanistan. Workshop Proceedings, Sept. 15-17, 2012, Kabul/Afghanistan

The notion that Afghanistan at present is at a decisive point in time is well known. Information systems in Afghan public institutions are no exception. Mainly caused by the lack of available knowledge and competencies with regard to Open Source software, information systems infrastructures - by default - are build-up from scratch by using proprietary software. This strategy might not be sustainable in the medium or long term. It was a lucky coincidence that the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme was ready to provide the funding for a workshop about the utilization of Open Source systems in different application environments in Sept. 2012 in Kabul. We were able to assemble a group of about thirty Afghan and international IT/IS specialists (some of them representing the fledgling Afghan Open Source community) for a three days workshop (...

Geophysical investigations of a geothermal anomaly at Wadi Ghadir, eastern Egypt

    Get PDF
During regional heat flow studies a geothermal anomaly was discovered approximately 2 km from the Red Sea coast at Wadi Ghadir, in the Red Sea Hills of Eastern Egypt. A temperature gradient of 55 C/km was measured in a 150 m drillhole at this location, indicating a heat flow of approximately 175 mw/sqm, approximately four times the regional background heat flow for Egypt. Gravity and magnetic data were collected along Wadi Ghadir, and combined with offshore gravity data, to investigate the source of the thermal anomaly. Magnetic anomalies in the profile do not coincide with the thermal anomaly, but were observed to correlate with outcrops of basic rocks. Other regional heat flow and gravity data indicate that the transition from continental to oceanic type lithosphere occurs close to the Red Sea margin, and that the regional thermal anomaly is possibly related to the formation of the Red Sea

Komparasi ASEAN Sme Policy Index dengan Rencana Strategis Dinas Perindustrian dan Perdagangan Provinsi Kepulauan Riau

This article compares two documents, ASEAN SMEs Policy Index 2014 with 2016-2021 Strategic Planning of Industrian dan Trade Office of Riau Islands Province. The aims is to see wether Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) policy, especially for Small and Medium Industries, has been aligned with ASEAN Economic Community framework for SMEs development. From the analysis, it can be found that there are three field of comparison which show that those two documents aren not yet alligned: definition, informality and High-Growth Entrepreneurship orientation

Investigation of furo[2,3-h]- and pyridazino[3,4-f]cinnolin-3-ol scaffolds as substrates for the development of novel HIV-1 integrase inhibitors

    Get PDF
With the aim to develop novel HIV-1 integrase inhibitors, we obtained a set of condensed ring systems based on the furo[2,3-h]cinnolin-3(2H)-one and pyridazino[3,4-f]cinnolin-3-ol scaffolds bearing a potential chelating pharmacophore, which can be involved in the inhibition mechanism of the enzyme. Herein, we report the design, synthesis, structural investigation and preliminary biological results of these heteroaromatic systems

The effect of nuclear deformation on level statistics

We analyze the nearest neighbor spacing distributions of low-lying 2+ levels of even-even nuclei. We grouped the nuclei into classes defined by the quadrupole deformation parameter (Beta2). We calculate the nearest neighbor spacing distributions for each class. Then, we determine the chaoticity parameter for each class with the help of the Bayesian inference method. We compare these distributions to a formula that describes the transition to chaos by varying a tuning parameter. This parameter appears to depend in a non-trivial way on the nuclear deformation, and takes small values indicating regularity in strongly deformed nuclei and especially in those having an oblate deformation.Comment: 10 Pages, 6 figure

Schur functions and their realizations in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

    Get PDF
we start the study of Schur analysis in the quaternionic setting using the theory of slice hyperholomorphic functions. The novelty of our approach is that slice hyperholomorphic functions allows to write realizations in terms of a suitable resolvent, the so called S-resolvent operator and to extend several results that hold in the complex case to the quaternionic case. We discuss reproducing kernels, positive definite functions in this setting and we show how they can be obtained in our setting using the extension operator and the slice regular product. We define Schur multipliers, and find their co-isometric realization in terms of the associated de Branges-Rovnyak space

GRIDKIT: Pluggable overlay networks for Grid computing

    Get PDF
A `second generation' approach to the provision of Grid middleware is now emerging which is built on service-oriented architecture and web services standards and technologies. However, advanced Grid applications have significant demands that are not addressed by present-day web services platforms. As one prime example, current platforms do not support the rich diversity of communication `interaction types' that are demanded by advanced applications (e.g. publish-subscribe, media streaming, peer-to-peer interaction). In the paper we describe the Gridkit middleware which augments the basic service-oriented architecture to address this particular deficiency. We particularly focus on the communications infrastructure support required to support multiple interaction types in a unified, principled and extensible manner-which we present in terms of the novel concept of pluggable overlay networks

Size effect on shear strength of FRP reinforced concrete beams

yesThis paper presents test results of six concrete beams reinforced with longitudinal carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars and without vertical shear reinforcement. All beams were tested under a two-point loading system to investigate shear behavior of CFRP reinforced concrete beams. Beam depth and amount of CFRP reinforcement were the main parameters investigated. All beams failed due to a sudden diagonal shear crack at almost 45°. A simplified, empirical expression for the shear capacity of FRP reinforced concrete members accounting for most influential parameters is developed based on the design-by-testing approach using a large database of 134 specimens collected from the literature including the beams tested in this study. The equations of six existing design standards for shear capacity of FRP reinforced concrete beams have also been evaluated using the large database collected. The existing shear design methods for FRP reinforced concrete beams give either conservative or unsafe predictions for many specimens in the database and their accuracy are mostly dependent on the effective depth and type of FRP reinforcement. On the other hand, the proposed equation provides reasonably accurate shear capacity predictions for a wide range of FRP reinforced concrete beams
