The aim of this study was to examine the attitudes level towards leisure activities of adolescents and to compare the participants' attitudes levels according to some variables. 610 (Nmale= 333; Mage= 15.80, SD= 1.14 and Nfemale= 277; Mage= 15.66, SD= 1.01) adolescents enrolled in this study from different high schools in Turkey. The Leisure Attitude Scale (LAS) (Ragheb and Beard, 1982) was administered on the participants. Cognitive, affective and behavioral items (12 per type) were rated on a five-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistical methods and MANOVA were used to compare the differential scores of the three sub-scales of the T-LAS among the demographic variables. Correlation analysis was used to test the relationship between T-LAS sub-scales and age. The cognitive sub-scale scores were the highest toward leisure. MANOVA analysis indicated no significant mean differences in all three sub-scales with regard to gender. However, there were no significant main effect of participation in physical activity on "T-LAS" scores; a follow-up univariate analysis indicated significant main effects for participation in physical activity on the sub-scales of "Cognitive", "Affective", "Behavioral". Participants groups had higher mean attitude scores than the non-participants in all sub-scales of T-LAS. Additionally, MANOVA indicated significant main effect of school type on "T-LAS" scores, in tests between subject effects by school type, results also revealed a significant differences in the "Cognitive", "Affective", "Behavioral" sub-scales. Private high schools' students had higher scores than the others. Overall, the girl participants had lower attitudes toward leisure than the boys. While the highest leisure attitudes mean score in affective sub-scale, cognitive subscale is the lowest score.</p

Portfolio optimization with consumption in a fractional Black-Scholes market

Get PDF
Abstract. We consider the classical Merton problem of finding the optimal consumption rate and the optimal portfolio in a Black-Scholes market driven by fractional Brownian motion B H with Hurst parameter H> 1/2. The integrals with respect to B H are in the Skorohod sense, not pathwise which is known to lead to arbitrage. We explicitly find the optimal consumption rate and the optimal portfolio in such a market for an agent with logarithmic utility functions. A true self-financing portfolio is found to lead to a consumption term that is always favorable to the investor. We also present a numerical implementation by Monte Carlo simulations. 1

The aim of this study are to extract the plant, to determine the TLC profile of the extracted sample, to carry out the phytochemical screening and to conduct antibacterial activities of the plant crude towards Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Piper betel leaves were extracted by using Soxhlet extractor with continuous heat extraction for 6 -8 hours. Extractions were done successively by using two solvent which are chloroform and ethanol which have different polarity. The highest percentage extraction yield was found in chloroform extract with 13.10% compared to ethanol extract, the percentage extraction yield was 5.32%. These two types of extract were used to determine the presence of different bioactive compounds by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) profile. Two combinations of Hex:EtOAc and Toluene:EtOAc were used as a mobile phase to give maximum resolution of spots. The phytochemical screening of Piper betel leaves has been studied to determine the presence of metabolites. Ethanol extract was found to give positive result for flavonoid, phenolics, tannins, phlobatannins and alkaloids tests while chloroform extract gave positive result for saponins and terpenoids tests only. Antibacterial activities were tested using four bacteria strain against two extracts by using disk diffusion method. Bacteria employed for Grampositive were Bacillus subtilis and Staphyloccus aureus while the Gram-negative are Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Ethanol extract shows strongest antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria than chloroform extract

This study aims to determine the factors which constraint and facilitate individuals’ participation to physical activities. Sample group of the study consist of 691 individuals who live in different districts of Ankara and chosen by random sampling method. In the study “Leisure Constraints Scale-18” is used to determine the factors that constraint individuals’ participation to physical activities and “Leisure Facilitators Scale” to determine the factors that facilitate the individuals’ participation to physical activities. As a statistical method frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, single factorial MANOVA, and Pearson Correlation tests were used. According to the analysis results, it is determined that “Intrinsic Facilitators” is a factor that affects women to participate physical activity and has a higher role in constraining single participants to join physical activity. Furthermore, it is revealed that perceptions of constraint decrease with the increase in participants’ level of income. As a result, the most important factor that constraints individuals’ participation to physical activity is “Structural Constraints” and the most important factor that facilitates is “Intrapersonal Facilitators”. Extended English abstract is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Investigation of cooling properties of the gaseous medium of a space station

Get PDF
An investigation of cooling properties of the gaseous medium was performed in the biosatellite Kosmos-936 as well as in the orbital complexes Soyuz-28/Salyut-6 and Soyuz-30/Salyut-6 with the aid of an especially constructed electric dynamic catathermometer. In this instrument current was measured which was necessary to keep a steady settled temperature of the sensing device. The investigation was performed because of the disturbed heat exhange of the human body caused by lack of natural convection in weightlessness. The instrument also enabled objective estimation of the temperature of the cosmonaut's ody in six optionally selected regions. The results obtained by means of the catathermometer will also enable defining the appropriate hygienic conditions of the gaseous medium of space stations

Determination of oxygen tension in the subcutaneous tissue of cosmonauts during the Salyut-6 mission

Get PDF
A polarographic technique was used to measure the oxygen tension in subcutaneous tissue of the forearm of a cosmonaut prior to, after, and on the fourth day of a space mission performed by Salut-6. A drop in the oxygen exchange rate in the peripheral tissues during weightlessness was observed. The mechanisms of this change are studied, taking into consideration the blood distribution in the organism and microcirculation disorders reflected by a decreased blood flow rate in arterial-venous junctions

An Empirical Methodology for Detecting and Prioritizing Needs during Crisis Events

In times of crisis, identifying the essential needs is a crucial step to providing appropriate resources and services to affected entities. Social media platforms such as Twitter contain vast amount of information about the general public's needs. However, the sparsity of the information as well as the amount of noisy content present a challenge to practitioners to effectively identify shared information on these platforms. In this study, we propose two novel methods for two distinct but related needs detection tasks: the identification of 1) a list of resources needed ranked by priority, and 2) sentences that specify who-needs-what resources. We evaluated our methods on a set of tweets about the COVID-19 crisis. For task 1 (detecting top needs), we compared our results against two given lists of resources and achieved 64% precision. For task 2 (detecting who-needs-what), we compared our results on a set of 1,000 annotated tweets and achieved a 68% F1-score

The aim of this study was to reveal the motivators and problems of soccer players that pursue their professional careers in Turkey. In this qualitative research, convenience sampling and criterion sampling, which are kinds of nonrandom sampling methods was used to determine the participants. Eight male soccer players from the Genclerbirligi Soccer Team who were complied with the research criteria, voluntarily participated in the study. The demographic information form and semi-structured interview form were used as data collection tools. All interviews were recorded by audio and video recording devices. Data was analyzed by content analysis. The findings showed that; this study was supported the "mercenary", "ambiotis" and "nomadic cosmopolitan" items, which are in typologies that motivates athletes to migrate to a host country. In addition, language and cultural differences were the main problems for migrant athletes. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that besides the items in the typologies, "positive information" can facilitate the migration of athletes to a host country. Furthermore, it expressed the importance of inquiry on the cultural structure of the host country for migrant athletes, in order to minimize negative influences of problems
