    The Implementation of Curriculum 2013: English Teachers’ Perceptions on Developing Lesson Plan and Teaching Materials

    Curriculum 2013 has been implemented in both primary and secondary schools in Indonesia. To execute this, teachers are supposed to be the only medium that has a major role in running this curriculum. However, they do not seem to have well preparations to implement the 2013 curriculum. Some fundamental aspects in this curriculum such as planning lesson and teaching materials need to have more attention in order to run the program well. Moreover, teachers should be well informed regarding these aspects, yet the implementation of 2013 curriculum in English teaching learning is not completely perfect. Considering the issue above, this research aims to investigate English teachers’ perceptions towards developing lesson plans and teaching materials. A questionnaire was used to collect the data about their insights on developing lesson plan and teaching materials. To triangulate the data, this research also administered an interview. The finding indicates that the English teachers tended to feel that structuring lesson plan is not an easy task. They sometimes felt burdensome in modifying the lessons and teaching materials. Besides, 80% of the participants stated that their teaching objectives were achieved after concerning those aspects. The results indicate that teachers needed sufficient knowledge and strong motivation to deal with these important aspects

    EFL Undergraduate Students’ Competence, Relatedness, and Autonomy in Online Learning: A Self-Determination Perspective

    Due to the pandemic of Covid-19, numerous educational institutions have attempted to shift their pedagogical instruction from face-to-face to online teaching and learning. A plethora of studies have been published on how online learning should be provided. However, there is a paucity of research on the psychological needs that online learning provides for language learners. To bridge that gap, this descriptive study aims to investigate the university students' perspectives on psychological needs, particularly regarding their competence, relatedness, and autonomy concerning self-determination theory. The quantitative research design study attempts to investigate students' autonomy, competence, and relatedness in online tertiary learning. Sixty people were asked to fill out a survey-based questionnaire that included questions about autonomy (5 items), competence (5 items), and relatedness (8 items). The study's findings reveal that online grammar sessions meet undergraduate students' basic physiological learning needs despite the lack of physical human interaction. Among those three aspects, students' sense of relatedness had the highest mean. It meant the undergraduate students had no feeling of isolation while attending online learning. This present study suggests that teachers should consider students' interests to improve autonomy, competence, and relatedness

    EXPLORING TEACHERS’ BELIEFS AND CLASSROOM PRACTICES THROUGH REFLECTIVE PRACTICE IN AN EFL CONTEXT

    Latihan reflektif diyakini mampu menjembatani kesenjangan antara keyakinan guru dan praktik kelas mereka. Sayangnya, terlepas dari fakta bahwa itu telah diakui secara luas dalam konteks English as a Second Language, banyak guru menganggap praktik reflektif sebagai kegiatan yang memakan waktu. Selain itu, tidak ada studi yang telah dilakukan di bidang keyakinan guru dalam mengajar dan belajar dalam konteks EFL. Dengan demikian, penelitian kualitatif deskriptif ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki keyakinan guru dalam mengajar dan belajar bahasa Inggris. Juga dicoba untuk mengidentifikasi apakah keyakinan mereka diimplementasikan dalam praktik kelas mereka. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi kelas sebagai sumber utama. Tiga guru bahasa Inggris diselidiki untuk mendapatkan kepercayaan mereka tentang mengajar dan belajar. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa keyakinan guru dibentuk oleh pengalaman mengajar mereka dan pengalaman masa lalu mereka. Penelitian ini juga menggarisbawahi bahwa praktik mengajar guru dipengaruhi oleh keyakinan mereka tentang harapan peserta didik dalam belajar. Namun, tidak semua keyakinan mereka diterapkan di kelas karena beberapa faktor seperti faktor siswa, batasan waktu, dan kewajiban sekolah. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa para guru dituntut untuk terbiasa melakukan refleksi untuk mengeksplorasi keyakinan mereka untuk meningkatkan praktik mengajar mereka. ;--- Reflective practice is believed to be able to bridge a gap between teachers’ beliefs and their classroom practices. Unfortunately, despite the fact that it has been widely acknowledged in ESL context, many EFL teachers perceived reflective practice as a time-consuming activity. Furthermore, no study that has been conducted in the area of teachers’ beliefs in teaching and learning in an EFL context. Thus, this descriptive qualitative research aimed at investigating teachers’ beliefs in teaching and learning English. It is also attempted to identify whether or not their beliefs are implemented in their classroom practices. The data were gathered through interviews and classroom observations as the main source. Three English teachers were investigated to elicit their beliefs about teaching and learning. The findings showed that the teachers’ beliefs were shaped by their teaching experiences and their past experiences. This study also underlined that the teachers’ teaching practices were influenced by their beliefs about the learners’ expectations in learning. However, not all of their beliefs were implemented in the classroom due to several factors such as the students’ factors, time-constraint, and the school obligations. These research findings suggest that the teachers are required to be accustomed to doing reflections in order to explore their beliefs to improve their teaching practices

    PENERAPAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN FLIPBOOK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI BELAJAR DAN PRESTASI BELAJAR PADA MATA DIKLAT INSTALASI PENERANGAN LISTRIK DI SMK NEGERI 2 PENGASIH

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar dan prestasi belajar siswa pada Mata Diklat Instalasi Penerangan Listrik di SMK Negeri 2 Pengasih dengan cara menerapkan media pembelajaran flipbook. Flipbook yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Flip PDF Profesional. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Desain yang digunakan adalah one group pretest-posttest design. Siswa diberikan pretest untuk mengetahui motivasi dan prestasi belajar awal. Selanjutnya diberikan perlakuan penerapan media pembelajaran flipbook pada proses pembelajaran. Setelah mereka diberikan perlakuan tersebut, maka siswa diberikan posttest untuk mengetahui motivasi dan prestasi akhir. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI TITL 1 semester genap tahun akademik 2018/2019 sebanyak 30 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan lembar angket motivasi belajar, tes prestasi belajar, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media pembelajaran flipbook dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar dan prestasi belajar siswa kelas XI TITL 1 pada Mata Diklat Instalasi Penerangan Listrik di SMK Negeri 2 Pengasih. Rata-rata persentase motivasi belajar siswa pada pretest sebesar 70,73%, sedangkan pada posttest sebesar 81,18%, mengalami peningkatan sebesar10,45%. Rata-rata nilai pretest siswa sebesar 57,33, sedangkan rata-rata nilai posttest sebesar 75,83, mengalami peningkatan rata-rata nilai sebesar 18,5 atau 32,27%. Persentase tingkat ketuntasan siswa pada pretest sebesar 13,33%, sedangkan pada posttest sebesar 80%, mengalami peningkatan sebesar 66,67%

    Perkembangan kehidupan modern menyebabkan terbentuknya pencemaran lingkungan udara. Salah satu penyakit yang sering muncul pada masyarakat akibat terjadinya pencemaran udara adalah infeksi pada saluran pernafasan atas. Setiap bagian dari saluran pernafasan memiliki karakteristik yang khas dan berbeda dibandingkan sistem organ lain. Masalah yang sering terjadi pada masyarakat adalah mereka sungkan untuk memeriksakannya kepada dokter dan memilih untuk mengabaikan penyakit ini. Masalah tersebut memicu adanya suatu bidang ilmu yang mendayagunakan komputer untuk dapat berperilaku cerdas seperti manusia, salah satu contoh dari bidang ilmu tersebut adalah sistem pakar. Salah satu pemanfaatannya adalah pada bidang kesehatan yang digunakan untuk membantu masyarakat mendiagnosa penyakit infeksi pada saluran pernafasan atas dengan menggunakan probabilitas bayesian. Hasil dari implementasi penelitian ini adalah aplikasi sistem pakar yang dapat mendiagnosis penyakit berdasarkan gejala-gejala yang di pilih oleh masyarakat dengan berdasarkan aturan yang didapat dari pakar.     REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AS TOOLS TO EXPLORE IN-SERVICE TEACHERS’ BELIEFS AND CLASSROOM PRACTICES: INDONESIAN EFL TEACHERS’ VOICES

    Reflective practice is widely acknowledged as the most effective means to create effective teacher who wants to have better understanding of their works. It has been explicitly stated in western academic teacher education curriculum due to its significant impact on constructing life-long learning for teachers. However, this beneficial contribution of teachers’ professional development is not growing within the context of English as a foreign Language (EFL) teaching. Accordingly, this descriptive qualitative research aimed at (1) investigating teachers’ beliefs in teaching and learning English by utilizing reflective tools, and (2) attempting to identify whether or not their beliefs are implemented in their practices in which the reasons will also be explored. The data were gathered through interviews and classroom observations as the main source. Three English teachers were investigated to elicit their beliefs about teaching and learning. The findings showed years of teaching experiences and past experiences as a learner are the most arisen theme in which the initial facet strongly affects the way they perceive teaching, and the latter occurrence theme indirectly shape the teachers’ beliefs. As regards to the relation of their practices and their stated belief, however, not all of their beliefs were implemented in the classroom due to several factors such as the students’ factors, time-constraint, and the school obligations

    Teachers' perceptions of challenges in online learning: Voices from secondary EFL teachers

    The abrupt change from a traditional classroom to online learning must have produced some issues, and many scholars were drawn in to investigate the reported challenges during online learning. There is, however, a paucity of research on secondary EFL teachers' perceptions of online learning challenges, notably in four major areas: technology use, instruction, assessment, and students. Therefore, the purpose of this descriptive quantitative study is to examine secondary EFL teachers' perspectives of the challenges they encounter in dealing with the aforementioned issues.  The participants included 73 upper and lower secondary English as a foreign language (EFL) teacher. A closed-item questionnaire was deployed, with a total of 38 items addressing issues related to online learning challenges. The findings reveal that secondary EFL teachers in Indonesia reported medium-level challenges in teaching EFL online in terms of technology use, instruction, assessment, and students, whilst challenges in assessing students in online learning were identified as the highest. The results contribute to the advancement of English language education by providing literature on the development of EFL teachers

    This study aims to determine how the Implementation of Law number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance in the City of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan province. The type of research used is qualitative research methods with descriptive analysis techniques. The informants taken in this study were conducted using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. Based on the results of research on the implementation of Law no. 33 of 2014 concerning guarantee of halal products in the city of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan province, it can be concluded that the implementation has been carried out but has not run optimally and has not provided meaningful changes to the community. The advice that researchers can give to the organizers of the guarantee policy for halal products in the city of Palangka Raya should be to collaborate more with agencies and communities so that the halal product certification policy can run properl

    IMPLEMENTASI TEKNIK SYMBOLIC MODELING DALAM UPAYA PENINGKATAN PERSONALITY SAFETY SKILL

    Abstrak: Upaya Peningkatan Personality Safety Skill dapat dilakukan dengan metode layanan tutorial melalui metode symbolic modeling. Tujuan Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengimplementasikan teknik symbolic modeling dalam upaya peningkatan Personality Safety Skill. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui pelatihan dan terapi langsung serta bersifat daring menggunakan paltform zoom cloud meeting. Adapun sasaran kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah sebanyak 35 orang siswa dan orang tua SDN 019 Pandau Jaya, Kota Pekanbaru. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan adanya peningkatan rerata Personality Safety Skill sebelum dilakukan terapi dengan setelah dilakukan terapi Symbolic Modling sebesar 2,54 (9,60-12,14 pada skala item 17 indikator). Disarankan kepada seluruh guru dan orang tua agar dapat secara intensif melakukan terapi symbolic modeling untuk meningkatan kewaspadaan anak dalam memahami Personality Safety Skill sehingga anak-anak dapa terhindar dari resiko ancaman terhadap kesalamatan dirinya.Abstract: Efforts to improve Personality Safety Skills can be done with the tutorial service method through the symbolic modeling method. The purpose of this community service activity is to implement symbolic modeling techniques in an effort to improve Personality Safety Skills. Methods Implementation is carried out through direct and online training and therapy using the Zoom cloud meeting platform. The target of this community service activity is as many as 35 students and parents of SDN 019 Pandau Jaya, Pekanbaru City. The results of the implementation of community service activities showed an increase in the average Personality Safety Skill before therapy was carried out with after Symbolic Modling therapy was 2.54 (9.60-12.14 on a 17-indicator item scale). It is recommended to all teachers and parents to be able to intensively carry out symbolic modeling therapy to increase children's awareness in understanding Personality Safety Skills so that children can avoid the risk of threats to their safety
