This thesis, which follows the structure of an in-company project, was developed based on problems observed in the stores of EDP company. With the decline of customer traffic in the physical stores and with the increase in the use of the Net Promoter Score indicator, there was a need to better understand the customer profile, what conditions his satisfaction and the reasons that lead to visit a physical store of EDP, relating all these aspects with the NPS indicator. To formulate the project, a study was developed based on direct observations in certain stores, answers to questionnaires and registration in evaluation tables, based on two analyses with different objectives. A first analysis aimed at evaluating the team and its performance as a whole and another in which the main focus was the assistants with good and bad NPS value. With the observations made, the main conclusions drawn are related to the factors that influence customer satisfaction, which are directly related to the store experience and the way he is handled throughout the attendance. Thus, with the main factors identified, it was possible to define a set of strategies based on three distinct pillars, which are the reformulation of the teams, training and improvement of store strategies and experience. The implementation of these actions in EDP stores, and later in other contact channels, will maximize customer satisfaction and, consequently, improve the company's NPS indicator.

A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsIn 2008 LeYa had the desire to grow in two different ways: gaining market share to competitor firms in the book publishing market; and develop a strategy for market size growth, benefiting from first mover advantage. At that time we were already catalyzing and collecting the benefits of dimension, either by using our enhanced negotiation power or through the exploration of available synergies from the acquisition of several firms. The Snack Books project was developed with the intent of maximizing the potential market of the industry, translating into one single objective: explore the market potential of Light Readers engaging them to the pleasures of reading. This was the main insight used in the development of ideas that could lead to the introduction of a new product. The only restriction of the project was the obvious necessity of using the core competence of a publishing company, the development of written contents, facilitating the connection between creators and consumers of written contents. Using the insights collected from an initial and exploratory research several concepts were developed and discussed. From these initial ideas one was highlighted as having the higher potential, Snack Books. This stage was followed by a quantitative research study with the aim of confirming the insights gathered from the exploratory research and data collection under product specifications, price and distribution channels. With those results we developed the marketing plan of Snack Books. Generally speaking we can define Snack Books as being a collection of titles which offer two pieces, one fictional and one non-fictional, the articulation between them is given by a common and general theme. The main attributes of Snack Books are the size (no more than 30 pages and 10.000 words which is equivalent to an average of 40 minutes reading), easiness (simple words; easy to understand narrative construction; plot easy to follow) and portability (10 x 14cm). Another core attribute is the distribution close to consumption occasions, therefore outside bookshops. To achieve this we designed a distribution channel whose core resource is the implementation of vending machines, favouring impulse purchase. The price is 2€ for all items of the collection, thanks to expectable high unit sales and low industrial costs. An integrated promotion plan will be deployed to get the attention of target customers based mainly on the use mass media, point-of-purchase material, trade promotions and institutional communication to all stakeholders

Ahold was valued as the sum of parts of the different business geographies in which the company currently operates, using the Discounted Cash Flow approach and the Multiples valuation. Lastly, the results are compared with an investment bank research note where the divergences will be analyzed and explained

Assessing the potential use of Water Treatment Sludge containing Activated Carbon for the removal of Emerging Pollutants

The presence of emerging pollutants (EP) in water bodies and its impacts on the environment and human health is of the utmost importance. Estrogens are a group of EP, that have a high prevalence in the environment and toxicity even at low concentrations, which leads to adverse impact in both wild and human life’s. This group include compounds such as estrone (E1), 17-estradiol (E2) and 17-ethinylestradiol (EE2). The discharge of wastewater into the environment is one of the main causes for the release of these compounds in the environment. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove EP. Therefore, it is important to add complementary treatments to remove these compounds, especially with the increasing of the incentive of the reuse of treated wastewater, promoted by the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals. There are several additional treatments to accomplish EP removal. The adsorption process is one of the commonly used since it is simple to design and operate and does not generate toxic by-products. There are many kinds of adsorbent materials, however, the most used is activated carbon (AC). AC shows high removal capacity for the removal of E1, E2 and EE2. However, AC’s regeneration is an expensive process and result in a material with low adsorption capacity. As a result, efforts are being raised to find low-cost adsorbents. The use of water treatment sludges (WTSs) containing AC as an alternative adsorbent provides a new way of sustainable resources management, lining up with circular economy proposals and on another hand will contribute to the decarbonization of the water treatment industry. This work studied the potential of WTS containing AC for the removal of E1, E2 and EE2. For this purpose, WTS from two water treatment plants (WTP), St. Águeda WTS and Caldeirão WTS were characterised and tested as adsorbents. Both WTSs showed adsorption potential with efficiencies removal results above 50 %, without a significant decrease in their granulometry. For Caldeirão WTS final concentration for all the three EP were lower than the limit of quantification. As for St. Águeda WTS, the results for E1 and E2 removal were similar to Caldeirão WTS removal performance. However, for EE2 the removal efficiency was lower than the obtained with Caldeirão WTS. These results lead to a new approach in the management of this erstwhile reside and removal of EP
