Una estética tectónica. Las lógicas individuantes en las imágenes cinematográficas.

This article is interested in the individuational logics that surround images, specifically in the kind of cinematographic images that we identify as “classical”. In order to do that, I will start with the analysis of two cinematographic techniques known as shot-and-reverse-shot cutting and long take or sequence shot. The goal of the article would be to appreciate, in both cases, the enactment of the cinematographic image’s most fundamental element in its classical production: the frame. Starting from this technical element, I will make a characterization of these only to find a kind of aesthetics that we could call correlationist, since the camera works as an absolute conscience which chooses and limits its own object while it gives existence to it. Then, by reviewing the cinema of Ben Rivers, I will examine whether it’s possible to detach cinema from this strictly humanist individuating logic, in order to imagine a possible post-humanist cinema that would account for other kinds of existences without reducing them to a cinematographic or, in this case, humanist point of view.

To analyze the reasons why learners from 2013 to 2017 of Bachelor program of English Language Teaching from UNIMINUTO desert.College dropout involves discussing the causes why students desert, more precisely the need to understand the reasons why they did not continue their training. Ruiz, Muriel, Gallego, Velez, Gomez & Portilla (2009) “one of the main problems that faces the Colombian higher education system, is the high level of academic desertion in the undergraduate programs” (p.13). From this point, throughout this research, we analyzed the reasons why students in the Bachelor Program in English Language Teaching at UNIMINUTO deserted. Having a population of participants between the years 2013-2017, implementing a case study research with qualitative approach using documentary evidence, survey and interviews. We expect that the results help in the permanence of the students in the program.College dropout involves discussing the causes why students desert, more precisely the need to understand the reasons why they did not continue their training. MedVir: 3D visual interface applied to gene profile analysis

    Get PDF
The use of data mining techniques for the gene profile discovery of diseases, such as cancer, is becoming usual in many researches. These techniques do not usually analyze the relationships between genes in depth, depending on the different variety of manifestations of the disease (related to patients). This kind of analysis takes a considerable amount of time and is not always the focus of the research. However, it is crucial in order to generate personalized treatments to fight the disease. Thus, this research focuses on finding a mechanism for gene profile analysis to be used by the medical and biologist experts. Results: In this research, the MedVir framework is proposed. It is an intuitive mechanism based on the visualization of medical data such as gene profiles, patients, clinical data, etc. MedVir, which is based on an Evolutionary Optimization technique, is a Dimensionality Reduction (DR) approach that presents the data in a three dimensional space. Furthermore, thanks to Virtual Reality technology, MedVir allows the expert to interact with the data in order to tailor it to the experience and knowledge of the expert

Carolina Casado-Robles is supported by a research grant from the Spanish Ministry of Universities [Grant Number: FPU16/03314]. This publication is part of the WearFit project (Reference B-SEJ-029-UGR18), funded by the FEDER/Regional Government of Andalusia-Ministry of Economy and Knowledge. The funders had no role in study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript. Background: The popularity of consumer-wearable activity trackers has led the scientific community to conduct an increasing number of intervention studies integrating them to promote physical activity (PA) and to reduce sedentary behavior (SB) levels among school-aged children. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to estimate the effects of consumer-wearable activity tracker-based programs on daily objectively measured PA and SB among apparently healthy school-aged children, as well as to compare the influence of participants’ and programs’ characteristics. Methods: Eligibility criteria were: (1) participants: apparently healthy school-aged children (< 18 years old); (2) intervention: aimed to promote PA and/or to reduce SB incorporating consumer-wearable activity trackers; (3) comparator: baseline measurements and/or a control/traditional group; (4) outcomes: objectively measured daily PA and/or SB levels; (5) study design: pre-experimental, quasi-experimental, and true-experimental trials. Relevant studies were searched from eight databases up to December 2020, as well as from four alternative modes of searching. Based on the Cochrane Risk-of-bias tool 2, the risk of bias was assessed following four domains: (1) randomization process; (2) missing outcome data; (3) measurement of the outcomes; and (4) selection of the reported results. Based on a comprehensive systematic review, meta-analyses of the Cohen’s standardized mean difference (d) and 95% confidence interval (CI) with a random-effects model were conducted to estimate the overall effects, as well as the within- and between-study subgroups analyses effects, of the programs on daily total steps, moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), total PA and SB. Results: Forty-four publications (i.e., 45 studies) were included in the systematic review (5,620 unique participants; mean age = 12.85 ± 2.84 years) and 40 publications (i.e., 41 studies) in the meta-analysis. Programs had a mean length of 11.78 ± 13.17 weeks and most used a waist-worn consumer-wearable activity tracker (77.78% waist-worn; 22.22% wrist-worn). Programs characteristics were: goal-setting strategies (64.06%); participants’ logbooks (56.25%); counseling sessions (62.50%); reminders (28.13%); motivational strategies (42.19%); and exercise routine (17.19%). Results showed a statistically significant moderate favorable effect on daily total steps (d = 0.612, 95% CI 0.477–0.746), small favorable effect on daily MVPA (d = 0.220, 95% CI 0.134–0.307), trivial favorable effect on daily total PA (d = 0.151, 95% CI 0.038–0.264) and trivial unfavorable effect on daily SB (d = 0.172, 95% CI 0.039–0.305). Subgroups analyses showed a higher effect for daily total steps and daily MVPA levels in females and the physically inactive for daily total steps (p = 0.003–0.044). Programs with educational counseling and/or goal-setting strategies, as well as a greater number of strategies, were more effective for improving children’s daily total steps, and wrist-worn activity trackers were more effective than waist-worn trackers for improving their daily MVPA levels (p = 0.001–0.021). Conclusions: Consumer-wearable activity tracker-based programs seem to be effective in promoting school-aged children’s daily total steps and MVPA levels, especially for females and those that are physically inactive. These programs should include specific goal-setting, educational counseling, and wrist-worn trackers as especially effective strategies. However, due to the certainty of evidence being from “low” to “moderate”, future well-designed primary research studies about the topic are needed.Spanish Government FPU16/03314FEDER/Regional Government of Andalusia-Ministry of Economy and Knowledge B-SEJ-029-UGR1

Sulfite-reducing clostridia in the sediment of a high mountain lake (Laguna Grande, Gredos, Spain) as indicators of fecal pollution

    Get PDF
We studied the vertical distribution of sulfite-reducing clostridia in the sediment of a Spanish high-mountain lagoon (Laguna Grande de Gredos, central Spain), with optimal sediment characteristics (temperature < 20°C) to maintain spores without growing. This allowed us to assess the original numbers of sulfite-reducing clostridia endospores settled, without postdepositional growing. Sulfite-reducing clostridia are normal inhabitants of the intestinal microbiota of humans and other mammals. These microorganisms may form endospores, which allow the bacteria to survive in almost any habitat, either terrestrial or aquatic, waiting for favorable conditions for growth. Sulfite-reducing clostridia could be suitable indicators of past human pollution because they have a great longevity in natural habitats and they cannot multiply at temperatures below 20°C or in the presence of O2. We found a great increase in the numbers of clostridia (expressed as colony-forming units per gram [CFU/g] of dry weight of sediment) since the 1970s, which reflects the rise of human pressure caused by the practice of outdoor activities.Clostridia CFU/g rose dramatically after the faulty operation of the depuration system of a mountain refuge built close to the lagoon. We compared the vertical distribution of clostridia CFU/g from Laguna Grande sediments with those from a neighbor lagoon (Laguna Cimera), which showed less tourist pressure and no direct disposal of sewage. Finally, we agree with the usefulness of the numbers of sulfitereducing clostridia as indicators of past pollution
