12 Angry Men (1957) : The ekphrastic word-image at judgment

Este ensaio enfoca o poder imagético da palavra como elemento central do filme 12 Angry Men (1957), dirigido por Sidney Lumet, com roteiro de Reginald Rose de seus escritos e especial para TV (CBS, 1954, direção de Franklin Schaffner). O filme foi estrelado por Henry Fonda (personagem Davis), entre outros. Essa abordagem é discutida a partir do conceito retórico de écfrase, dimensão conceitual já utilizada em estudos de análise de filmes, especialmente por Pethö (2010), Elleström (2010), Killander et al (2014), Heffernan (1993, 2015), Gonçalo (2017) e Clüver (1998, 2019). Assim, o foco deste ensaio é interpretar como os recursos cinematográficos e fílmicos feitos por Lumet dialogam com a vasta tradição retórica da écfrase. Dentre as considerações deste ensaio, destaca-se que o filme em análise é uma peça exemplar de um “cinema de palavras”, isto é, por meio de recursos retórico-cinemáticos de orientação ecfrástica, essa obra fílmica produzida, por meio da condução discursiva do protagonista. em oposição ao restante do painel de juízes, que em flashbacks, ele reconstitui cenas do crime para analisar o homicídio em julgamento. This essay focuses on the imagetic power of the word as a central element of the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by Sidney Lumet, with a screenplay by Reginald Rose from his writings and TV special (CBS, 1954, directed by Franklin Schaffner). The aforementioned film starred Henry Fonda (Davis character), among others. This approach is discussed based on the rhetorical concept of ekphrasis, a conceptual dimension already used in film analysis studies, especially by Pethö (2010), Elleström (2010), Killander et al (2014), Heffernan (1993, 2015), Gonçalo (2017) and Clüver (1998, 2019). Thus, the focus of this essay is to interpret how the cinematographic and filmic resources made by Lumet dialogue with the vast rhetorical tradition of ekphrasis. Among the considerations of this essay, it is highlighted that the film under analysis is an exemplary piece of a “word cinema”, that is, through rhetorical-cinematic resources of ekphrastic orientation, this filmic work produced, through the discursive conduction of the protagonist in opposition to the rest of the panel of judges, that in flashbacks, he reconstructs crime scenes to analyze the murder on trial.&nbsp

O processo de educação patrimonial como instrumento de auxílio na gestão dos bens patrimoniais

O presente artigo, de corte qualitativo, visa caracterizar a prática da educação patrimonial como um processo que pode fortalecer e consolidar a preservação e conservação de bens patrimoniais, configurando dessa forma um instrumento de gestão do patrimônio. Defendese, neste trabalho, que as ações de restauração e conservação dos bens patrimoniais precisam encontrar suporte na comunidade que lhe serve de alicerce a fim de que tais ações tenham resultados mais eficazes. Este trabalho oferece uma revisão bibliográfica que explicita os conceitos e propósitos da educação patrimonial, assim como a importância da apropriação por parte da comunidade receptora dos seus bens patrimoniais de modo que as ações de restauro e conservação sejam mais significativas para aquela através da inclusão destes processos em atividades educativas. Toma-se como referência a experiência realizada em 2008 pela equipe do Programa de Especialização em Patrimônio, da Diretoria de Preservação Cultural da FUNDARPE (órgão executor da política cultural do Estado, responsável pelas ações de preservação e conservação do patrimônio). Através do Programa Monumenta (UNESCO), foi desenvolvido o Projeto “Educação Patrimonial para os municípios de Goiana e Igarassu, em Pernambuco”. O Programa Monumenta atua em cidades históricas protegidas pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), promovendo obras de restauração e recuperação de bens tombados, aliadas a ações de educação patrimonial. O projeto desenvolvido pela FUNDARPE, dividido em várias etapas, englobou a realização de diagnóstico dos problemas encontrados relativos aos bens patrimoniais nos municípios; mapeamento dos patrimônios e seus estados de conservação; realização de um Encontro de Educação Patrimonial composto de oficinas e palestras e criação de uma publicação direcionada para a educação patrimonial em cada município. Dentre os principais resultados atingidos com a execução do projeto, ressaltam-se a importância de ações no campo da educação patrimonial não apenas como forma de aproximação da comunidade dos seus bens patrimoniais, como também uma estratégia para tornar mais efetiva as ações de restauro e conservação realizadas pelas instituições oficiais de preservação do patrimônio.Tópico 1: Aspectos teóricos, históricos, legales, económicos y tecnológicos de la restauración y conservación de bienes patrimoniales

Properties of the open cluster Tombaugh 1 from high resolution spectroscopy and uvbyCaHβ\beta photometry

Open clusters can be the key to deepen our knowledge on various issues involving the structure and evolution of the Galactic disk and details of stellar evolution because a cluster's properties are applicable to all its members. However the number of open clusters with detailed analysis from high resolution spectroscopy and/or precision photometry imposes severe limitation on studies of these objects. To expand the number of open clusters with well-defined chemical abundances and fundamental parameters, we investigate the poorly studied, anticenter open cluster Tombaugh 1. Using precision uvbyCaH$\beta$ photometry and high resolution spectroscopy, we derive the cluster's properties and, for the first time, present detailed abundance analysis of 10 potential cluster stars. Using radial position from the cluster center and multiple color indices, we have isolated a sample of unevolved probable, single-star members of Tombaugh 1. The weighted photometric metallicity from $m_1$ and $hk$ is [Fe/H] = -0.10 $\pm$ 0.02, while a match to the Victoria-Regina Str\"{o}mgren isochrones leads to an age of 0.95 $\pm$ 0.10 Gyr and an apparent modulus of $(m-M)$ = 13.10 $\pm$ 0.10. Radial velocities identify 6 giants as probable cluster members and the elemental abundances of Fe, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Ni, Y,Ba, Ce, and Nd have been derived for both the cluster and the field stars. Tombaugh 1 appears to be a typical inner thin disk, intermediate-age open cluster of slightly subsolar metallicity, located just beyond the solar circle, with solar elemental abundance ratios except for the heavy s-process elements, which are a factor of two above solar. Its metallicity is consistent with a steep metallicity gradient in the galactocentric region between 9.5 and 12 kpc. Our study also shows that Cepheid XZ CMa is not a member of Tombaugh 1, and reveals that this Cepheid presents signs of barium enrichment.Comment: 74 pages, 15 figures, 13 tables; Accepted for publication in A

Neuroversion: a possible mechanism of action of ECT in acute mania

The first-line treatments for acute mania are lithium, antiepileptic moodstabilizers, and antipsychotic drugs. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is reserved for drug-resistant patients, although it is the first-line treatment for severe or delirious mania with life-threatening physical exhaustion. Contrary to depression, there is a paucity of evidence for the use of ECT in acute mania. However, available literature indicates that ECT seems effective in treating acute mania, with response rates between 80% and 90%, even in drug-resistant patients. Yet, its electrophysiological and molecular pathways remain unknown. We present the curious case of a 63-year-old woman, followed at our psychiatric outpatient clinic for bipolar disorder type I, admitted to our inpatient unit in a manic state with psychotic features. Due to bradycardia episodes secondary to the psychiatric medication, she was submitted to ECT. After a single session, her symptoms improved, despite no evoked seizures. We compare this curious phenomenon to the well-known procedure of cardioversion and name it neuroversion e in other words, a possible normalization of brain activity and behavior triggered by a unique session of electrical stimulation. However, we acknowledge that further research, including randomized clinical trials, are needed to study this reported event.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
