    Soluciones inmóticas para centros multifuncionales inteligentes de la tercera edad

    Este proyecto presenta un exhaustivo estudio de las diferentes soluciones inmóticas viables para la implantación en el Centro Asistencial de Santimami (Leioa). Este recoge un diseño conceptual para mejorar la calidad de vida de los residentes del centro. La propuesta gira alrededor de dos puntos clave. El primero de ellos es la purificación e higienización del aire para crear un ambiente más salubre y agradable. El segundo trabaja la estimulación sensorial para hacer de la residencia un entorno más atractivo. Y que, como consecuencia, genere un aumento de movilidad en su actividad física y psicológica diaria. Estos retos han sido seleccionados por los gestores del centro, en el marco de un convenio de colaboración entre la UPV/EHU y la Diputación Foral de Asistencia Social de Bizkaia, priorizando las necesidades de los residentes en dicha institución. Por otra parte, la propuesta busca crear sinergias, aportando soluciones que sean extrapolables al resto de Centros de Gufe-Ifas

    Oscillation tomografy study of Earth's composition and density with atmospheric neutrinos

    Knowledge of the composition of the Earth's interior is highly relevant to many geophysical and geochemical problems. Neutrino oscillations are modified in a non-trivial way by the matter effects and can provide valuable and unique information not only on the density but also on the chemical and isotopic composition of the deep regions of the planet. In this paper, we re-examine the possibility of performing an oscillation tomography of the Earth with atmospheric neutrinos and antineutrinos to obtain information on the composition and density of the outer core and the mantle, complementary to that obtained by geophysical methods. Particular attention is paid to the D^{\prime \prime} layer just above the core-mantle boundary and to the water (hydrogen) content in the mantle transition zone. Our analysis is based on a Monte-Carlo simulation of the energy and azimuthal angle distribution of μ\mu-like events generated by neutrinos. Taking as reference a model of the Earth consisting of 55 concentric layers with constant densities determined from the PREM, we evaluate the effect on the number of events due to changes in the composition and density of the outer core and the mantle. To examine the capacity of a detector like ORCA to resolve such variations, we construct regions in planes of two of these quantities where the statistical significance of the discrepancies between the reference and the modified Earth are less than 1σ1\sigma. The variations are implemented in such a way that the constraint imposed by both the total mass of the Earth and its moment of inertia are verified.Comment: Already published in the European Physical Journal

    Caracterizacion de la autoatribucion de comportamientos socialmente responsables de los estudiantes cohorte 2009 de la Universidad de Talca

    93 p.El propósito de la presente investigación es caracterizar la autoatribución de comportamientos socialmente responsables e intenciones a la base, y su relación con variables sociodemográficas y cognitivas en estudiantes cohorte 2009 de la Universidad de Talca. El diseño del estudio es de tipo descriptivo correlacional y la metodología empleada cuantitativa. Se aplicó un cuestionario de Autoatribución de Comportamientos Socialmente Responsables e Intenciones a la Base a una muestra de 1106 estudiantes cohorte 2009 pertenecientes a todas las carreras de pregrado de la Universidad de Talca. Los resultados obtenidos fueron relacionados con variables sociodemográficas y cognitivas de los sujetos. Luego de analizar los datos utilizando el software SPSS versión 15.0 fue necesario reducir ítemes del cuestionario utilizado para aumentar la consistencia interna de las subescalas del mismo. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes se autoatribuyen comportamientos socialmente responsables y que sus intenciones a la base, son basadas principalmente en el beneficio propio. Así también, existen diferencias significativas según el sexo, el establecimiento educacional de procedencia, el nivel educacional alcanzado por los padres, el área académica y el rendimiento académico

    Unveiling the Dynamics of the Universe

    We explore the dynamics and evolution of the Universe at early and late times, focusing on both dark energy and extended gravity models and their astrophysical and cosmological consequences. Modified theories of gravity not only provide an alternative explanation for the recent expansion history of the universe, but they also offer a paradigm fundamentally distinct from the simplest dark energy models of cosmic acceleration. In this review, we perform a detailed theoretical and phenomenological analysis of different modified gravity models and investigate their consistency. We also consider the cosmological implications of well motivated physical models of the early universe with a particular emphasis on inflation and topological defects. Astrophysical and cosmological tests over a wide range of scales, from the solar system to the observable horizon, severely restrict the allowed models of the Universe. Here, we review several observational probes -- including gravitational lensing, galaxy clusters, cosmic microwave background temperature and polarization, supernova and baryon acoustic oscillations measurements -- and their relevance in constraining our cosmological description of the Universe.Comment: 94 pages, 14 figures.     Pollen feeding by syrphids varies across seasons in a Mediterranean landscape dominated by the olive orchard

    Syrphids provide valuable ecosystem services such as pollination, pest control or organic matter decomposition. In many cases, adults exploit pollen resources from the landscape to complete their life cycles. Yet, the knowledge about the most suitable plants for enhancing syrphid populations is still insufficient for most habitats. Also syrphid distribution across the landscape is understudied. In this work we analyzed: (i) syrphids distribution across different land uses and seasons in a Mediterranean landscape dominated by olive orchards, (ii) pollen resources exploited by the most abundant syrphid species and (iii) specific pollen resources relevant for egg production. Syrphids were captured weekly in spring, summer and autumn from April to November 2013 with a sweep net in patches with different land uses (olive orchards, herbaceous and scrubland patches). Nine species, generally with predatory aphidophagous larvae, were identified. The most abundant species was Sphaerophoria scripta (L.) followed by Melanostoma mellinum (L.). Sphaerophoria scripta was associated to olive orchards while M. mellinum was associated to herbaceous/scrubland patches. Pollen selection and consumption and number of eggs within gravid females for the most abundant species were determined through gut dissection and identified with a microscope. Several pollen types were showed a positive selection index by syrphid species. During spring and summer, the most ingested pollen types belonged to abundant plants in the patches of capture indicating that syrphids possibly do not need to fly among patches to feed during those periods. In spring, Asteraceae and Plantago type were particularly consumed by S. scripta and M. mellinum gravid females respectively while in summer feeding habits of males, gravid and non-gravid females did not differ. Females consumed more pollen than males but the number of eggs in gravid females was not related with the amount of ingested pollen grains. This study brings some insights about the seasonal variation of pollen feeding habits shown by adult syrphids across a Mediterranean heterogeneous landscape dominated by the olive orchard. Yet, the effect of fluid flow on microbial community composition and rates of chemoautotrophic production is unknown because rate measurements under natural conditions are difficult, impeding an assessment of the importance of these systems. Here, in situ incubations controlling fluid flow along a transect of three geochemically distinct locations at a shallow-water hydrothermal system off Milos (Greece) show that Campylobacteria dominated chemoautotrophy in the presence of fluid flow. Based on injected 13C-labelled dissolved inorganic carbon and its incorporation into fatty acids, we constrained carbon fixation to be as high as 12 µmol C cm−3 d−1, corresponding to areal rates up to 10-times higher than previously reported for coastal sediments, and showed the importance of fluid flow for supplying the necessary substrates to support chemoautotrophy. Without flow, rates were substantially lower and microbial community composition markedly shifted. Our results highlight the importance of fluid flow in shaping the composition and activity of microbial communities of shallow-water hydrothermal vents, identifying them as hotspots of microbial productivity.Open Access funding enabled and organized by Projekt DEAL

    Impulsivity and the Experience of Desire in the Choice of Erotic Stimuli

    (1) Background: the relationship between erotic desire and personality factors is still relatively understudied. (2) Objective: to study the influence of the experience of desire, as well as impulsivity in the choice of videos, as the behavioral variable in the experimental trial. (2) Method: the sample consisted of 48 adult subjects, who took part in an experimental study that involved watching videos. (3) Results: the linear regression analysis revealed that the behavior involved in choosing videos is predicted by the sexual desire felt at the time of the trial, and not by stable personality factors, such as impulsivity or general self-report levels of sexual desire. (4) Conclusion: it is observed that the specific moment or situation and the behavior have a bigger impact on the erotic desire experienced at the time of the test than certain personality traits, as well as the previous and habitual levels of erotic desire of which an individual reports

    The Role of Probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria and Bifidobacteria in the Prevention and Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Other Related Diseases: A Systematic Review of Randomized Human Clinical Trials

    Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic inflammation of the small intestine and colon caused by a dysregulated immune response to host intestinal microbiota in genetically susceptible subjects. A number of fermented dairy products contain lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and bifidobacteria, some of which have been characterized as probiotics that can modify the gut microbiota and may be beneficial for the treatment and the prevention of IBD. The objective of this review was to carry out a systematic search of LAB and bifidobacteria probiotics and IBD, using the PubMed and Scopus databases, defined by a specific equation using MeSH terms and limited to human clinical trials. The use of probiotics and/or synbiotics has positive effects in the treatment and maintenance of UC, whereas in CD clear effectiveness has only been shown for synbiotics. Furthermore, in other associated IBD pathologies, such as pouchitis and cholangitis, LAB and bifidobacteria probiotics can provide a benefit through the improvement of clinical symptoms. However, more studies are needed to understand their mechanisms of action and in this way to understand the effect of probiotics prior to their use as coadjuvants in the therapy and prevention of IBD conditions
