To prepare the young generation for the challenges of a competitive and rapidly changing world, the education systems of Singapore and in many countries in East Asia are focusing on developing children's thinking and learning skills. This research study examines the effects of a cognitive programme, the Bright Start Cognitive Curriculum for young children, on kindergarten children's cognitive functions and their learning effectiveness. The study adopted an experimental, pretest posttest design with an experimental group of 43 children and a control group of 37 children. The Bright Start Cognitive Curriculum was systematically implemented over a period of six months with the children from the experimental group. The children from the control group had their regular integrated thematic curriculum. The study used a combination of methods to collect data, involving measurements of children's pre and post tests performances on cognitive tasks, analyses of video recordings of teaching observations and teachers‟ feedback of children‟s performances in class. The findings of the research study suggest that children from the experimental group showed greater improvement in all the cognitive tasks from pre to post testing than the children in the control group. The children‟s response to mediation scores in the experimental group were positively correlated with their post test scores. The experimental teachers scored higher in all three essential components of Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) than the control teachers; with marked difference between the two groups in the criteria of transcendence. However, the control teachers scored better in affective involvement, which is not one of the essential qualifying components of MLE

    Get PDF
Fade dynamics is one of more important parameters when implementing Fade Mitigation Techniques (FMTs) to counteract an excessive attenuation that affect satellite communication systems operating above 10 GHz. The statistics of probable duration between two rain fade namely interfade duration enables system operator to estimate how long the system will need to recover before the next outage and assist in designing the FMTs. In this paper, interfade duration statistics have been derived from one year of slant path attenuation measurements data collected in Equatorial Johor Bahru at 12.2 GHz with elevation angle of 75.61o. The result had shown the dependency of number of events with attenuation thresholds. Empirical interfade duration statistics are also obtained and suitable model distribution are proposed.

Cognitive radio (CR) is a paradigm for wireless communication in which a wireless node changes its transmission or reception parameters to communicate efficiently avoiding interference with licensed or unlicensed users. The utilization of spectrum is one of the critical issues in development of cognitive radio. Therefore, channel selection algorithm is developed to select the best operating band which can maximize the total system performances. This project study the spectrum co-existence between IEEE 802.16a and 802.11b network in the same un-licensed band using cognitive radio technique. A channel selection algorithm is proposed to improve the secondary user's throughput and avoid interference with primary user. NS2 simulation model is presented to evaluate the channel selection in scenarios with co-existing IEEE 802.16a and 802.11b networ

To ease the procedures of tax collection, General Directorate of Taxes (Direktorat Jendral Pajak – DJP) established self assessment system. In this self assessment system, tax payers are fully trusted to enroll themselves to the Tax Service Office (Kantor Pelayanan Pajak), to count, to pay, and to report tax obligations by themselves. With this self assessment system, government\u27s role, in this case Genera Directorate l of Taxes, only to facilitate so self assessment system may run well, while the execution depends on the tax payers\u27 compliance. The aim of this research was to discover the impact of tax awareness, service from the tax staff, tax law, tax payers\u27 rational attitude to private tax payer\u27s compliance in Surabaya. From this multiple linear regression analysis, it can be concluded that tax awareness, service from the tax staff, tax law, tax payer\u27s rational attitude simultaneously and partially give significant effect to taxpayer\u27s compliance in Surabaya

Clinacanthus nutans is a medicinal Asian plant often propagated by stem cuttings but little is known about the genetic relationships between existing accessions and the extent of homogeneity. In this study, we examined the genetic homogeneity in 12 C. nutans samples from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam reproduced by vegetative propagation from different regions between and within countries, and compared it to sexually propagated Andrographis paniculata (same family), related Clinacanthus siamensis (same family) and an out-group (different family) using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and microsatellite markers. There was a high genetic similarity between C. nutans accessions from all countries, with identical genetic profiles even though they were geographically distant. C. nutans clustered closely with C. siamensis and was distant from A. paniculata and the out-group. Genetic similarity for C. nutans was almost double that of A. paniculata, but the combined clustering analysis revealed higher diversity in C. nutans. These results provide fundamental knowledge in future planting decisions and options, and also facilitate further germplasm conservation of C. nutans and other vegetatively propagated medicinal species
