Measurement of xF3xF_3 and F2F_2 Structure Functions in Low Q2Q^2 Region with the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector

The isoscalar structure functions xF3xF_3 and F2F_2 are measured as functions of xx averaged over all Q2Q^2 permissible for the range of 6 to 28 GeV of incident neutrino (anti-neutrino) energy at the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector. The QCD analysis of xF3xF_3 structure function provides ΛMSˉ(4)=(411±200)\Lambda_{\bar{MS}}^{(4)} = (411 \pm 200) MeV under the assumption of QCD validity in the region of low Q2Q^2. The corresponding value of the strong interaction constant αS(MZ)=0.1230.013+0.010\alpha_S (M_Z) = 0.123^{+0.010}_{-0.013} agrees with the recent result of the CCFR collaboration and with the combined LEP/SLC result.Comment: 11 pages, 1 Postscript figure, LaTeX. Determination of the high-twist contribution to the structure function xF3νNxF^{\nu N}_3

    Get PDF
We extract the high-twist contribution to the neutrino-nucleon structure function xF3(ν+νˉ)NxF_3^{(\nu+\bar{\nu})N} from the analysis of the data collected by the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector in the runs with the focused neutrino beams at the IHEP 70 GeV proton synchrotron. The analysis is performed within the infrared renormalon (IRR) model of high twists in order to extract the normalization parameter of the model. From the NLO QCD fit to our data we obtained the value of the IRR model normalization parameter Λ32=0.69±0.37 (exp)±0.16 (theor) GeV2\Lambda^2_{3}=0.69\pm0.37~({\rm exp})\pm0.16~({\rm theor})~{\rm GeV}^2. We also obtained Λ32=0.36±0.22 (exp)±0.12 (theor) GeV2\Lambda^2_{3}=0.36\pm0.22~({\rm exp})\pm0.12~({\rm theor})~{\rm GeV}^2 from a similar fit to the CCFR data. The average of both results is Λ32=0.44±0.19 (exp) GeV2\Lambda^2_{3}=0.44\pm0.19~({\rm exp})~{\rm GeV}^2.Comment: preprint IHEP-01-18, 7 pages, LATEX, 1 figure (EPS

New data on OZI rule violation in bar{p}p annihilation at rest

The results of a measurement of the ratio R = Y(phi pi+ pi-) / Y(omega pi+ pi-) for antiproton annihilation at rest in a gaseous and in a liquid hydrogen target are presented. It was found that the value of this ratio increases with the decreasing of the dipion mass, which demonstrates the difference in the phi and omega production mechanisms. An indication on the momentum transfer dependence of the apparent OZI rule violation for phi production from the 3S1 initial state was found.Comment: 11 pages, 3 PostScript figures, submitted to Physics Letter

P-wave excited baryons from pion- and photo-induced hyperon production

We report evidence for N(1710)P11N(1710)P_{11}, N(1875)P11N(1875)P_{11}, N(1900)P13N(1900)P_{13}, Δ(1600)P33\Delta(1600)P_{33}, Δ(1910)P31\Delta(1910)P_{31}, and Δ(1920)P33\Delta(1920)P_{33}, and find indications that N(1900)P13N(1900)P_{13} might have a companion state at 1970\,MeV. The controversial Δ(1750)P31\Delta(1750)P_{31} is not seen. The evidence is derived from a study of data on pion- and photo-induced hyperon production, but other data are included as well. Most of the resonances reported here were found in the Karlsruhe-Helsinki (KH84) and the Carnegie-Mellon (CM) analyses but were challenged recently by the Data Analysis Center at GWU. Our analysis is constrained by the energy independent πN\pi N scattering amplitudes from either KH84 or GWU. The two πN\pi N amplitudes from KH84 or GWU, respectively, lead to slightly different πN\pi N branching ratios of contributing resonances but the debated resonances are required in both series of fits.Comment: 22 pages, 28 figures. The annihilation frequency of the reaction p¯ p!p0p0 at rest in liquid hydrogen has been measured by the Obelix experiment by using different apparatus configurations and trigger conditions. The value obtained is f (p0p0, LH)5(2.860.1stat60.4syst)31024. With the same data samples, the p0h annihilation frequency has been determined to be f (p0h, LH)5(0.960.2stat60.1syst)31024. The results are discussed within the frame of the present experimental situation

Study of the f(0)(1500)/f(2)(1565) production in the exclusive annihilation anti-n.anti-p -> pi+.pi+.pi- in flight

The spin-parity analysis of the (n) over bar p --> pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) exclusive reaction in flight is presented. The main aim is to study the (pi(+)pi(-)) invariant mass spectrum in the region around 1500 MeV. The analysis was performed with a Breit-Wigner parametrization for all the resonant states and, for the scalar sector in the mass region below 1.2 GeV, by means of a K-matrix-like treatment. It clearly shows the need for two states, a scalar one (0(++)) with mass and width (1522+/-25) MeV and (108+/-33) MeV, and a tensorial one (2(++)) with mass (1575 +/-18) MeV and width (119+/-24) MeV, respectively. In addition, the analysis requires the presence of a scalar state at (1280+/-55) MeV, (323+/-13) MeV broad, and of a second vectorial one, in addition to the rho(0)(770) signal, with mass and width (1348+/-33) MeV and (275+/-10) MeV, respectively

First measurement of the circular beam asymmetry in the gamma p --> pi0 eta p reaction

    Get PDF
The circular photon asymmetry for pi0 eta photoproduction on the proton was measured for the first time at the tagged photon facility of the MAMI C accelerator using the Crystal Ball/TAPS photon spectrometer. The experimental results are interpreted within a phenomenological isobar model that confirms the dominant role of the Delta(1700)D33 resonance. The measured asymmetry allows us to identify small contributions from positive-parity resonances via interference terms with the dominant D33 amplitude.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys.Lett.

First measurement of helicity-dependent cross sections in π0η photoproduction from quasi-free nucleons

    Get PDF
The helicity-dependent cross sections for the photoproduction of π0η\pi^0\eta pairs have been measured for the first time. The experiment was performed at the tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS calorimeter. The experiment used a polarized deuterated butanol target and a circularly polarized photon beam. This arrangement allowed the σ1/2\sigma_{1/2} (photon and target spin antiparallel) and σ3/2\sigma_{3/2} (parallel spins) components to be measured for quasi-free production of π0η\pi^0\eta pairs off protons and neutrons. The main finding is that the two helicity components contribute identically, within uncertainties, for both participant protons and neutrons. The absolute couplings for protons and neutrons are also identical. This means that nucleon resonances contributing to this reaction in the investigated energy range have almost equal electromagnetic helicity couplings, A1/2n,pA_{1/2}^{n,p} and A3/2n,pA_{3/2}^{n,p}. Identical couplings for protons and neutrons are typical for Δ\Delta resonances and identical A1/2A_{1/2} and A3/2A_{3/2} components are only possible for J3/2J\geq 3/2 states, which constrains possible contributions of nucleon resonances.Comment: accepted for publication in Phys.
