    Pricing double barrier options on homogeneous diffusions: a Neumann series of Bessel functions representation

    This paper develops a novel analytically tractable Neumann series of Bessel functions representation for pricing (and hedging) European-style double barrier knock-out options, which can be applied to the whole class of one-dimensional time-homogeneous diffusions, even for the cases where the corresponding transition density is not known. The proposed numerical method is shown to be efficient and simple to implement. To illustrate the flexibility and computational power of the algorithm, we develop an extended jump to default model that is able to capture several empirical regularities commonly observed in the literature.info:eu-repo/semantics/submittedVersio

    p-Adic Schr\"{o}dinger-Type Operator with Point Interactions

    A pp-adic Schr\"{o}dinger-type operator Dα+VYD^{\alpha}+V_Y is studied. DαD^{\alpha} (α>0\alpha>0) is the operator of fractional differentiation and VY=∑i,j=1nbijÎŽxiV_Y=\sum_{i,j=1}^nb_{ij}\delta_{x_i} (bij∈C)(b_{ij}\in\mathbb{C}) is a singular potential containing the Dirac delta functions ÎŽx\delta_{x} concentrated on points {x1,...,xn}\{x_1,...,x_n\} of the field of pp-adic numbers Qp\mathbb{Q}_p. It is shown that such a problem is well-posed for α>1/2\alpha>1/2 and the singular perturbation VYV_Y is form-bounded for α>1\alpha>1. In the latter case, the spectral analysis of η\eta-self-adjoint operator realizations of Dα+VYD^{\alpha}+V_Y in L2(Qp)L_2(\mathbb{Q}_p) is carried out

    Transmutations for Darboux transformed operators with applications

    We solve the following problem. Given a continuous complex-valued potential q_1 defined on a segment [-a,a] and let q_2 be the potential of a Darboux transformed Schr\"odinger operator. Suppose a transmutation operator T_1 for the potential q_1 is known such that the corresponding Schr\"odinger operator is transmuted into the operator of second derivative. Find an analogous transmutation operator T_2 for the potential q_2. It is well known that the transmutation operators can be realized in the form of Volterra integral operators with continuously differentiable kernels. Given a kernel K_1 of the transmutation operator T_1 we find the kernel K_2 of T_2 in a closed form in terms of K_1. As a corollary interesting commutation relations between T_1 and T_2 are obtained which then are used in order to construct the transmutation operator for the one-dimensional Dirac system with a scalar potential

    Prospective Observational Study on acute Appendicitis Worldwide (POSAW)

    Background: Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most common surgical disease, and appendectomy is the treatment of choice in the majority of cases. A correct diagnosis is key for decreasing the negative appendectomy rate. The management can become difficult in case of complicated appendicitis. The aim of this study is to describe the worldwide clinical and diagnostic work-up and management of AA in surgical departments.Methods: This prospective multicenter observational study was performed in 116 worldwide surgical departments from 44 countries over a 6-month period (April 1, 2016-September 30, 2016). All consecutive patients admitted to surgical departments with a clinical diagnosis of AA were included in the study.Results: A total of 4282 patients were enrolled in the POSAW study, 1928 (45%) women and 2354 (55%) men, with a median age of 29 years. Nine hundred and seven (21.2%) patients underwent an abdominal CT scan, 1856 (43.3%) patients an US, and 285 (6.7%) patients both CT scan and US. A total of 4097 (95.7%) patients underwent surgery; 1809 (42.2%) underwent open appendectomy and 2215 (51.7%) had laparoscopic appendectomy. One hundred eighty-five (4.3%) patients were managed conservatively. Major complications occurred in 199 patients (4.6%). The overall mortality rate was 0.28%.Conclusions: The results of the present study confirm the clinical value of imaging techniques and prognostic scores. Appendectomy remains the most effective treatment of acute appendicitis. Mortality rate is low.</p
