Effect of Psychological Empowerment and Transformational Leadership on Organizational Commitment

According to recent literature that relates to organizational leadership, transformational leadership consists of three important elements: idealized influence, individual consideration and intellectual stimulation. Extant studies in this area highlighted that the ability of the leaders in implementing these transformational processes (to execute organizational functions) may have a significant impact on individual outcome especially organizational commitment. Although this relationship has been studied, the mediating role of transformational leadership has taken a less prominent role in organizational leadership model. Recent studies on organizational leadership have emphasized that transformational leadership has three important characteristics: idealized influence, individual consideration and intellectual stimulation. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of empowerment in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment; by using 77 USAble questionnaires gathered from employees who worked at a foreign manufacturing company in Free Trade Zone, Malaysia. Results of SmartPLS path model analysis confirm that empowerment does act as an important mediating variable in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment in the organizational sample. In the succeeding sections, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated

The present study aims to investigate the role of social media platforms in confronting intellectual extremism among Majmaah University students. The researchers conducted the descriptive analytical approach and applied a 20- item questionnaire to a randomly selected sample of (213) students. The results showed that Tik Tok and Snapchat were ranked first among the study sample. Also, there was a moderate negative impact of social media on intellectual security, with a mean of (2.99). This is due to the nature of the content published on networks and its impact on the subscribers. It indicated the importance of social media, more specifically Tik Tok and Snapchat, among the sample of the study. It can be attributed to gender since females are more interested in social networks to publish and share photos. Moreover, the results revealed that social media platforms played a moderate role in resisting intellectual deviation among the participants, with an average mean of (2.96). There were no statistical differences in the impact of social media platforms on young peoples intellectual security and their role in resisting intellectual extremism due to responses to the study questions. The findings of the study call for the necessity of activating the positive role of social media by exploring new approaches to evolve effective alternatives in dealing with social networks by enhancing young peoples media literacy. Contribution/Originality: This study contributed to the existing literature by identifying the role of social media in combating intellectual extremism from the perspective of students at Majmaah University, Saudi Arabia. It also explored the most popular social media platforms among university students and their impact on students intellectual security

Accidents at the offshore platform are unavoidable due to unexpected reasons. The nature of its operations involves unstable materials sometimes under extreme pressure in aggressive environments lead to increase in risk thus accidents and tragedies can cause higher severity to platform's workers. Risk assessment in oil and gas (O&G) industry are essential to protect human and ecosystem from damages as it helps to create awareness and identify if existing control measure are adequate enough or vice versa for hazards and risks before accident happens. Consequence of failure (CoF) is a part of risk assessment process consists of four categories which are people loss, asset loss, environmental loss and reputation loss. In the current standard using by O&G industry in Malaysia which is PETRONAS Technical Guideline (PTG), CoF are being generally classified as incomprehensive because it does not consider many factors. Identifying more factors leads to better risk assessment as it helps in reducing unnecessary inspection or maintenance that could lead to excessive allocation of money for risk assessment. The objective of the study is to identify human health and safety loss threat factors. This study focuses on CoF of people loss or also known as human health and safety loss for offshore platform facilities damages. The information and identification of parameters related to human health and safety loss of offshore platform facilities damage are determined from case studies and literature review. All the information gathered are then being verified by O&G PETRONAS experts through survey and interviews. As a result, it is determined that the threat factors for human health and safety loss are fatality, injuries, disabilities and illness. In conclusion, identification of these threat factors as agreed by experts is more realistic as the severity levels of the accident are unique thus the factors should be more various

Characterization of Lasiodiplodia theobromae and L. pseudotheobromae causing fruit rot on pre-harvest mango in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Lasiodiplodia species are important plant pathogens in mango production countries, infecting plants during both pre- and post- harvest phases. Fruit rot reduces mango production and creates tremendous losses in economy of the involved countries. Fungal isolation was conducted in eight locations throughout Peninsular Malaysia. Species identification was based on morphological characterisation and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and β-tubulin (BT2) gene sequences analysis. Twenty isolates were obtained and identified as Lasiodiplodia theobromae (17isolates) and L. pseudotheobromae (3 isolates). Phylogenetic analysis using maximum-likelihood method demonstrated that all isolates of L. theobromae and L. pseudotheobromae formed a monophyletic clade. In pathogenicity tests, most fungal isolates inoculated on mango fruit showed fruit rot symptom. The most virulent isolate was L. theobromae A1718 with disease severity index (DSI)of 87.5%

    Get PDF
Li-ion batteries (LIBs) and Na-ion batteries (SIBs) are deemed green and efficient electrochemical energy storage and generation devices; meanwhile, acquiring a competent anode remains a serious challenge. Herein, the density-functional theory (DFT) was employed to investigate the performance of V4C3 MXene as an anode for LIBs and SIBs. The results predict the outstanding electrical conductivity when Li/Na is loaded on V4C3. Both Li2xV4C3 and Na2xV4C3 (x = 0.125, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2) showed expected low-average open-circuit voltages of 0.38 V and 0.14 V, respectively, along with a good Li/Na storage capacity of (223 mAhg?1) and a good cycling performance. Furthermore, there was a low diffusion barrier of 0.048 eV for Li0.0625V4C3 and 0.023 eV for Na0.0625V4C3, implying the prompt intercalation/extraction of Li/Na. Based on the findings of the current study, V4C3-based materials may be utilized as an anode for Li/Na-ion batteries in future applications. 2022 by the authors. This work was financially funded by the authors express their gratitude for the support of the Researchers Supporting Project Number (RSP-2021/267) King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
