    Sound and Complete Typing for lambda-mu

    In this paper we define intersection and union type assignment for Parigot's calculus lambda-mu. We show that this notion is complete (i.e. closed under subject-expansion), and show also that it is sound (i.e. closed under subject-reduction).     Functional Type Assignment for Featherweight Java

    Abstract. We consider functional type assignment for the class-based objectoriented calculus Featherweight Java. We start with an intersection type assignment systems for this calculus for which types are preserved under conversion. We then define a variant for which type assignment is decidable, and define a notion of unification as well as a principal typeing algorithm. We show the expressivity of both our calculus and our type system by defining an encoding of Combinatory Logic into our calculus and showing that this encoding preserves typeability. We thus demonstrate that the great capabilities of functional types can be applied to the context of class-based object orientated programming

Nu biedt het Waterpas-model de mogelijkheid om nat- en droogteschade op heldere en goed onderbouwde wijze te berekenen voor zowel de gewasopbrengst als de gevolgen voor de bedrijfseconomie (zoals dat ook getoetst is in het veenweidegebied, voor de polders Zegveld en Oud-Kamerik). De voorspelling van toekomstige gevolgen van veranderend waterbeheer, mestbeleid, klimaatverandering en de effecten op waterkwaliteit kunnen ook met een toekomstige versie van Waterpas worden bereken

    Enhanced Radiation Hardness and Faster Front Ends for the Beetle Readout Chip

    This paper summarizes the recent progress in the development of the 128 channel pipelined readout chip Beetle, which is intended for the silicon vertex detector, the inner tracker, the pile-up veto trigger and the RICH detectors of LHCb. Deficiencies found in the front end of the Beetle Version 1.0 and 1.1 chips resulted in the submissions of BeetleFE 1.1 and BeetleFE 1.2, while BeetleSR 1.0 implements test circuits to provide future Beetle chips with logic circuits hardened against single event upset (SEU). Section I. motivates the development of new front ends for the Beetle chip, and section II. summarizes their concepts and construction. Section III. reports preliminary results from the BeetleFE 1.1 and BeetleFE 1.2 chips, while section IV. describes the BeetleSR 1.0 chip. An outlook on future test and development of the Beetle chip is given in section V

    Beetle is a 128-channel readout chip, which will be used in the silicon vertex detector, the pile-up veto counters and the silicon tracker of the LHCb experiment at CERN. A further application of the Beetle chip is the readout of the LHCb RICH, in case it is equipped with multi-anode PMTs. The scope of this paper is the design changes leading to the latest version 1.3 of the Beetle readout chip. In addition, measurements on earlier versions and simulation results driving these changes are shown

    SEU Robustness, Total Dose Radiation Hardness and Analogue Performance of the Beetle Chip

    The Beetle is a 128 channel readout chip for silicon strip detectors in LHCb. In addition to the pipelined readout path known from the RD20 architecture which can be used either in analogue or binary mode, the Beetle features an additional prompt binary readout path, used for the LHCb pile-up veto counters and a triple-redundant layout of the control logic. It is manufactured in commercial 0.25 µm CMOS technology using radiation hard design techniques. In addition to a total dose irradiation with X-rays, an SEU irradiation test with 65 MeV protons was performed with Beetle1.3. The results of this test are presented together with new results from the Beetle versions 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5, which were submitted in the Beetle ER engineering run in May 2004

    Multiple Determinants of Externalizing Behavior in 5-Year-Olds: A Longitudinal Model

    In a community sample of 116 children, assessments of parent-child interaction, parent-child attachment, and various parental, child, and contextual characteristics at 15 and 28 months and at age 5 were used to predict externalizing behavior at age 5, as rated by parents and teachers. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis and path analysis yielded a significant longitudinal model for the prediction of age 5 externalizing behavior, with independent contributions from the following predictors: child sex, partner support reported by the caregiver, disorganized infant-parent attachment at 15 months, child anger proneness at 28 months, and one of the two parent-child interaction factors observed at 28 months, namely negative parent-child interactions. The other, i.e., a lack of effective guidance, predicted externalizing problems only in highly anger-prone children. Furthermore, mediated pathways of influence were found for the parent-child interaction at 15 months (via disorganized attachment) and parental ego-resiliency (via negative parent-child interaction at 28 months)

    Global analysis of SUMO chain function reveals multiple roles in chromatin regulation.

    Like ubiquitin, the small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) proteins can form oligomeric chains, but the biological functions of these superstructures are not well understood. Here, we created mutant yeast strains unable to synthesize SUMO chains (smt3(allR)) and subjected them to high-content microscopic screening, synthetic genetic array (SGA) analysis, and high-density transcript profiling to perform the first global analysis of SUMO chain function. This comprehensive assessment identified 144 proteins with altered localization or intensity in smt3(allR) cells, 149 synthetic genetic interactions, and 225 mRNA transcripts (primarily consisting of stress- and nutrient-response genes) that displayed a \u3e1.5-fold increase in expression levels. This information-rich resource strongly implicates SUMO chains in the regulation of chromatin. Indeed, using several different approaches, we demonstrate that SUMO chains are required for the maintenance of normal higher-order chromatin structure and transcriptional repression of environmental stress response genes in budding yeast
