    Economic Inequality in Spain: The European Union Household Panel Dataset

    This article uses data from the 1998 European Union Household Panel to study economic inequality in Spain. It reports data on the Spanish distributions of income, labor income, and capital income, and on related features of inequality, such as age, employment status, educational attainment, and marital status. It also reports data on the income mobility of Spanish households. We find that income, earnings, and, very especially, capital income are very unequally distributed in Spain

    The spin axes orbital alignment of both stars within the eclipsing binary system V1143Cyg using the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect

    Context: The Rossiter-McLaughlin (RM) effect, a rotational effect in eclipsing systems, provides unique insight into the relative orientation of stellar spin axes and orbital axes of eclipsing binary systems. Aims: Our aim is to develop a robust method to analyze the RM effect in an eclipsing system with two nearly equally bright components. This gives access to the orientation of the stellar rotation axes and may shed light on questions of binary formation and evolution. Methods: High-resolution spectra have been obtained both out of eclipse and during the primary and secondary eclipses in the V1143Cyg system, using the high-resolution Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph at the Lick Observatory. The Rossiter-McLaughlin effect is analyzed in two ways: (1) by measuring the shift of the line center of gravity during different phases of the eclipses and (2) by analysis of the line shape change of the rotational broadening function during eclipses. Results: The projected axes of both stars are aligned with the orbital spin within the observational uncertainties, with the angle of the primary rotation axis beta_p=0.3+-1.5 deg, and the angle of the secondary rotation axis beta_s=-1.2+-1.6 deg, thereby showing that the remaining difference between the theoretical and observed apsidal motion for this system is not due to a misalignment of the stellar rotation axes.     Non-perturbative renormalization of lattice operators in coordinate space

    We present the first numerical implementation of a non-perturbative renormalization method for lattice operators, based on the study of correlation functions in coordinate space at short Euclidean distance. The method is applied to compute the renormalization constants of bilinear quark operators for the non-perturbative O(a)-improved Wilson action in the quenched approximation. The matching with perturbative schemes, such as MS-bar, is computed at the next-to-leading order in continuum perturbation theory.     The extent of upskilling of the argentine labor market: a simple analysis

    Over the last three decades the labor market of most developed countries have experienced a sustained period of upskilling. This means an overall increase in the skill requirement of jobs determined by the demand for skilled labor. This suggests that their labor demand has become more skill intensive, shifting towards skilled workers relatively to unskilled workers. An analysis of job growth of the Argentine labor market between 1997 and 2009 using data from the EPH, evidences a process of deskilling over this period, with serious implications in terms of competitiveness and about issues related to increasing social and economic inequality.Los países industrializados evidencian un sostenido proceso de upskilling en sus mercados de trabajo durante los últimos treinta años, esto implica que la demanda laboral se ha sesgado hacia ocupaciones intensivas en habilidades y conocimiento, requiriéndose, por ende, mayor proporción de trabajadores con esas características en relación al resto. El estudio, con datos de la EPH, analiza la evolución del mercado laboral argentino verificando características de deskilling (downskilling) entre 1997 y 2009, es decir, manifiesta la ocurrencia de un proceso inverso al de las economías desarrolladas, situación que genera inequidad e impacta negativamente sobre los incentivos y competitividad del país

    Orbital phase resolved spectroscopy of 4U1538-52 with MAXI

    4U 1538-52, an absorbed high mass X-ray binary with an orbital period of 3.73 days, shows moderate orbital intensity modulations with a low level of counts during the eclipse. Several models have been proposed to explain the accretion at different orbital phases by a spherically symmetric stellar wind from the companion. The aim of this work is to study both the light curve and orbital phase spectroscopy of this source in the long term. Particularly, the folded light curve and the changes of the spectral parameters with orbital phase to analyse the stellar wind of QV Nor, the mass donor of this binary system. We used all the observations made from the Gas Slit Camera on board MAXI of 4U 1538-52 covering many orbits continuously. We obtained the good interval times for every orbital phase range which were the input to extract our data. We estimated the orbital period of the system and then folded the light curves and we fitted the X-ray spectra with the same model for every orbital phase spectrum. We also extracted the averaged spectrum of all the MAXI data available. The MAXI spectra in the 2-20 keV energy range were fitted with an absorbed Comptonization of cool photons on hot electrons. We found a strong orbital dependence of the absorption column density but neither the fluorescence iron emission line nor low energy excess were needed to fit the MAXI spectra. The variation of the spectral parameters over the binary orbit were used to examine the mode of accretion onto the neutron star in 4U 1538-52. We deduce a best value of M˙/v=0.65×109\dot{M}/v_\infty=0.65\times 10^{-9} Myr1/(kms1)M_{\odot} \, yr^{-1}/(km \, s^{-1}) for QV Nor.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, accepted to be published by A&A, corrected typos (changing bold font to normal one
