    Culture, education and care of the patient with an ostomy

    Para la adecuada aplicación de los cuidados enfermeros es necesario el conocimiento antropológico de las personas a las que van dirigidos. Concretando en las personas ostomizadas debemos evidenciar los cambios, modificaciones y trastornos producidos por la nueva situación (ser portador de un estoma), a todos los niveles: físico, psicológico, social y cultural. Estos conocimientos nos proporcionan la base para proporcionar unos cuidados flexibles, adaptados e individualizados dirigidos a prevenir, disminuir o solucionar los problemas que puedan presentar. Nos basamos en la visión holística y humanista de Virginia Henderson y en la autoridad y autonomía que tenemos las enfermeras para tratar las alteraciones que presenta la persona para cubrir de forma satisfactoria e independiente sus necesidades básicas. Hemos realizado un revisión bibliográfica para conocer cómo la cultura y la educación afectan a la aceptación y al logro de la independencia de la persona ostomizada.Adequate Nursing care demands anthropological knowledge of the people who are to be cared for. Patients with an ostomy experience changes, alterations and disturbances by their new situation at all levels: physical, psychological, social and cultural. This knowledge provides us with the basis for flexible, adapted and individualised care in order to prevent, minimise or sort out the problems that may arise. Our work is based upon Virginia Henderson's holistic and humanistic perspective and nurses' autonomy and authority to deal with the patient's trouble and satisfactory and independently fulfill his/her basic needs.     Dairy Debaryomyces hansenii strains produce the antihypertensive casein-derived peptides LHLPLP and HLPLP

    The ability of dairy Debaryomyces hansenii, Kluyveromyces lactis and Kluyveromyces marxianus strains to release the casein-derived antihypertensive sequences RYLGY, AYFYPEL, LHLPLP, HLPLP, VPP and/or IPP was examined. Yeast strains were grown in medium with casein as sole nitrogen source and the yeast casein hydrolysates (CSHs) were analysed by HPLC-MS/MS to search for the six antihypertensive sequences. Only LHLPLP and HLPLP were identified in CSHs and exclusively in D. hansenii Dh1 and Dh14 hydrolysates in which both antihypertensive sequences represented approximately 6 (CSH Dh1) and 10% (CSH Dh14) of total peptide content. In addition, a complete analysis of selected CSHs by HPLC-MS/MS allowed the identification of 35 (Dh1) and 46 (Dh14) additional peptides, which could also contribute to the observed in vitro ACE inhibitory potency of both hydrolysates (Dh1, IC50 = 13.6 ± 1.8 μg/mL; Dh14, IC50 = 17.5 ± 2.1 μg/mL) and might confer them multifunctional properties. Finally casein zymography revealed the presence of at least one extracellular protease with a molecular mass of about 50 kDa.     Social media use and the challenge of complexity: evidence from the technology sector.

    Social Media encourages networks in the complex and dynamic environment within which firms are immersed. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role and impact of Social Media on complexity variables and organizational performance. More specifically, we explore the presence of elements of “spontaneous order creation”: heterogeneous agents with motives to connect with each other, and their impact on innovativeness and dissipative structures. The research model was tested on a sample of 201 technology firms through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Our research contributes to extant literature by exploring the impact of digitally enabled networks (Social Media) on complexity dynamics through analysis of their influence on firm performance.     Microgrids Power Quality Enhancement Using Model Predictive Control

    In electric power systems, any deviation with respect to the theoretical sinusoidal waveform is considered to be a disturbance in the power quality of the electrical grid. The deviation can alter any of the parameters of the waveform: frequency, amplitude, and symmetry among phases. Microgrid, as a part of the electric power system, has to contribute providing an adequate current waveform in grid connected-mode, as well as to guarantee similar voltage features than the standard requirement given for public distribution grids under normal exploitation conditions in islanded mode. Adequate power quality supply is necessary for the correct compatibility between all the devices connected to the same grid. In this paper, the power quality of microgrids is managed using a Model Predictive Control (MPC) methodology which regulates the power converters of the microgrids in order to achieve the requirements. The control algorithm is developed for the following microgrids working modes: grid-connected, islanded, and interconnected. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methodology improves the transient response in comparison with classical methods in all the working modes, minimizing the harmonic content in the current and the voltage even with the presence of non-balanced and non-harmonic-free three-phase voltage and current systems

    Neuralgia Occipital: uma abordagem terapêutica não invasiva

    Objetivo: avaliar a aplicação de uma intervenção não invasiva que consiste em uma modificação postural usando modelos personalizados e osteopatia em pessoas com neuralgia occipital. Método: estudo retrospectivo da intervenção realizada em população adulta com neuralgia occipital que consiste de modificação postural empregando órteses plantares personalizadas e osteopatia, em um período de estudo de quatro anos. As variáveis observadas foram: persistência de cefaleia, alinhamento dos eixos, apoio plantar, centro de gravidade e centro de massa; dados da entrevista médica, escala visual analógica, sistema de análise de marcha Win-Track e o software Kinovea para análise de vídeo (instrumentos de avaliação clínica utilizados). Resultados: foram estudados no total 34 registros de pessoas com neuralgia occipital. Uma fração de 58,8% dos pacientes informou apresentar melhoria após a intervenção. Os dados da escala visual analógica foram fornecidos para 64,7% dos registros, encontrando diferenças significativas (p<0,001) entre as médias antes (8,4±1,7) e depois da intervenção (2,6±2,7). Conclusão: a modificação postural empregando órteses personalizadas e osteopatia melhora substancialmente a sintomatologia dos pacientes com neuralgia occipital.Objective: to evaluate the application of a noninvasive intervention consisting of a postural modification using personalized models and osteopathy in people with occipital neuralgia. Method: retrospective study of the intervention performed in adult population with occipital neuralgia, consisting of postural modification using personalized plantar orthoses and osteopathy, in a study period of four years. The observed variables were: persistence of headache, alignment of the axes, plantar support, center of gravity and center of mass; medical interview data, visual analogue scale, Win-Track gait analysis system and Kinovea software for video analysis (clinical assessment instruments used). Results: a total of 34 records of people with occipital neuralgia were studied. A fraction of 58.8% of the patients reported improvement after the intervention. The visual analogue scale data were provided for 64.7% of the records and significant differences (p <0.001) between the means before (8.4 ± 1.7) and after the intervention (2.6 ± 2.7) were found. Conclusion: postural modification using personalized orthoses and osteopathy substantially improves the symptomatology of patients with occipital neuralgia.Objetivo: evaluar la aplicación de una intervención no invasiva consistente en una modificación postural empleando plantillas personalizadas y osteopatía en personas con neuralgia occipital.     Novel Antihypertensive Lactoferrin-Derived Peptides Produced by Kluyveromyces marxianus: Gastrointestinal Stability Profile and In Vivo Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibition

    Novel antihypertensive peptides released by Kluyveromyces marxianus from bovine lactoferrin (LF) have been identified. K. marxianus LF permeate was fractionated by semipreparative high performance liquid chromatography and 35 peptides contained in the angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory fractions were identified by using an ion trap mass spectrometer. On the basis of peptide abundance and common structural features, six peptides were chemically synthesized. Four of them (DPYKLRP, PYKLRP, YKLRP, and GILRP) exerted in vitro inhibitory effects on ACE activity and effectively decreased systolic blood pressure after oral administration to spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Stability against gastrointestinal enzymes suggested that the sequence LRP could contribute to the in vivo effects of parental peptides.     Inhibition of bacterial and fungal plant pathogens by thionins of types I and II

    Thionins are cysteine-rich, 5 kDa polypeptides which are active against plant pathogens. Thionins of type I, from the endosperms of wheat (Wα1, Wα2, Wβ) and barley (Bα, Bβ), and of type II, from barley (BLa, BLb, BLc), have been purified to apparent homogeneity. For a given pathogen, the effective concentration giving 50% inhibition (EC-50) determined for the different thionins varied over a less than fivefold range. The ranking of the variants according to their activity differed among different pathogens, but certain variants, such as Wα1, Wβ or Bβ, tended to be more active than the others. Strains of some bacterial species, such as Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus or Pseudomonas solanacearum were sensitive in the 2–3 × 10−7M concentration rangem whereas the most sensitive fungal pathogens, such as Rosellinia necatrix, Colletotrichum lagenarium and Fusarium solani, had EC-50 values in the 1−4 × 10−6M range. Thionins, which were not particularly effective in liquid medium against Phytophthora infestans (EC-50=3.9 × 10−5M) were more effective than the fungicide Ridomil on a molar basis in a drop application assay on leaf discs from potato
