This work synthesizes the data collected in the analysis of the petreal materials used in construction of the Monastery of Santa María de Raíces in Asturias. The most probable area of origin of those is show with the purpose to identify the transport done during its construction. Macroscopic and microscopic petrologic analysis and bibliographic and field study allow to conclude that there exists a great litologic variability. Carbonated and siliciclastic materials are show, with ages ranging from Devonic to Jurasic. Possible supply areas are proposed, belonging in most cases to close surroundings, inferior to 7 km

Temperature-Dependent Anisotropic Refractive Index in β-Ga2O3: Application in Interferometric Thermometers

An accurate knowledge of the optical properties of β-Ga2O3 is key to developing the full potential of this oxide for photonics applications. In particular, the dependence of these properties on temperature is still being studied. Optical micro- and nanocavities are promising for a wide range of applications. They can be created within microwires and nanowires via distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR), i.e., periodic patterns of the refractive index in dielectric materials, acting as tunable mirrors. In this work, the effect of temperature on the anisotropic refractive index of β-Ga2O3 n(λ,T) was analyzed with ellipsometry in a bulk crystal, and temperature-dependent dispersion relations were obtained, with them being fitted to Sellmeier formalism in the visible range. Micro-photoluminescence (μ-PL) spectroscopy of microcavities that developed within Cr-doped β-Ga2O3 nanowires shows the characteristic thermal shift of red–infrared Fabry–Perot optical resonances when excited with different laser powers. The origin of this shift is mainly related to the variation in the temperature of the refractive index. A comparison of these two experimental results was performed by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations, considering the exact morphology of the wires and the temperature-dependent, anisotropic refractive index. The shifts caused by temperature variations observed by μ-PL are similar, though slightly larger than those obtained with FDTD when implementing the n(λ,T) obtained with ellipsometry. The thermo-optic coefficient was calculated. This work was supported by MICINN projects (RTI2018-097195-B-I00, RTI2018-096918-B-C41, PID2021-122562NB-I00 and PID2021-123190OB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/FEDER, UE). The past twenty five years have witnessed deep economical changes in several countries, oriented to promoting foreign investment along with a regional market integration. In Mexico, the structural reforms in some sectors, including the energy one, have been conducted in a delayed and partial fashion compared to other Latin American countries, affecting the electricity and natural-gas subsectors, and the market liberalization has not been concreted yet. As a result of the commercial agreements, the participation of US and Canadian capital stands out naturally above of that of other countries; however, as regards electricity generation and the exploration, exploitation, distribution and storage of natural gas, the investments of Spanish energy enterprises are particularly important, which in addition to modifying the geography of energy in Mexico, have consolidated their presence in Latin America.

Development of a Roadmap for the Implementation of a Sustainable Mobility Action Plan in University Campuses of Emerging Countries

    Get PDF
Universities are centers of knowledge and their Campuses are like small cities, thus making them the ideal place to develop, apply and evaluate policies and tools for innovative mobility solutions that can subsequently be extended to other contexts. A review of mobility measures in different European Universities has revealed that many of them apply policies to promote sustainable mobility, but there is a significant lack of standardized mobility plans and roadmaps for their successful implementation. The objective of the present work is to develop a successful roadmap, which is necessary for the smooth implementation of a mobility plan, as it has been found through a thorough review of good practices in Universities. Within this framework, a customizable standardized Roadmap design is proposed, which consists of two documents: a tactical document that provides a global and sequential vision of the entire plan, and an operational document that details the actions for each strategic line. This roadmap is accompanied by a catalog of objectives, measures, and cost and impact indicators. We consider this design instructive for universities because of its universal characteristics in Emerging Countries. To ensure this, it is necessary to apply this roadmap and carry out the corresponding evaluation

Azure A embedded in carbon dots as NADH electrocatalyst: Development of a glutamate electrochemical biosensor

Carbon nanodots modified with azure A (AA-CDs) have been synthesized and applied as redox mediator of bioelectrocatalytic reactions. A deep characterization of AA-CDs nanomaterial has been carried out, proving the covalent attachment of azure A molecules into the carbon dots nanostructure. Disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) have been modified with AA-CDs, through the action of chitosan polymer (Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE). The Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of NADH has been proved, obtaining excellent results regarding the low oxidation potential achieved (−0.15 V vs. Ag) and low detection and quantification limits (LOD and LOQ) for NADH, 16 and 53 µM, respectively. The developed electrochemical platform has been applied for the construction of a glutamate biosensor by immobilizing L-glutamic dehydrogenase (GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE). The morphology of GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE platform was analysed by AFM at each different step of the electrode modification process. The resulting biosensing platform is capable of detect NADH enzymatically generated by GLDH in the presence of glutamate and NAD+. Good analytical parameters were obtained for glutamate analysis using GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE, as LOD and LOQ of 3.3 and 11 µM, respectively. The biosensor has been successfully applied to the analysis of food and biological samplesThis work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion (PID2020–116728RB-I00) and Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid (SI3/PJI/2021–00341, P2018/NMT-4349 TRANSNANOAVANSENS Program

Carbon nanodots modified-electrode for peroxide-free cholesterol biosensing and biofuel cell design

The determination of cholesterol is greatly important because high concentrations of this biomarker are associated to heart disease. Moreover, cholesterol can be used as a fuel in enzymatic fuel cells operating under physiological conditions. Here, we present a cholesterol biosensor and a peroxide-free biofuel cell based on the electrocatalytic oxidation of the NADH generated during the enzymatic reaction of cholesterol dehydrogenase (ChDH) as an alternative to the H2O2 biosensing strategies used with cholesterol oxidase-bioelectrodes. Azure A functionalized-carbon nanodots were used as NADH oxidation electrocatalysts and for ChDH covalent immobilization. The biosensor responded linearly to cholesterol concentrations up to 1.7 mM with good sensitivity (4.50 mA cm−2 M−1) and at a low potential. The ChDH bioelectrode was combined with an O2-reducing bilirubin oxidase cathode to produce electrical energy using cholesterol as fuel and O2 as oxidant. Furthermore, the resulting enzymatic fuel cell was tested in human serum naturally containing free cholesterolA.L.DL. and M.P. thank MCIU/AEI/FEDER, EU for funding project RTI2018–095090-B-I00. Pure red cell aplasia is isolated anemia secondary to erythropoiesis failure whose pathogenesis is not exactly known. It is a rare disorder that affects any age group and both sexes equally. We present a case of APCR secondary to thymoma, a type of acquired aplasia that should be suspected in case we find a normocytic normochromic anemia with reticulocytopenia, whose diagnosis is confirmed by the absence of erythroblasts in the bone marrow, and whose treatment consists of thymectomy, requiring sometimes corticoid or immunosuppressive treatment. The APCR may also be a haematological complication of several autoimmune diseases, so it is important to consider them in the differential diagnosis. However, there are no psychometric robust tools in the Spanish context to assess self-determination. The main aim of this study is to present the developmental of The ARC-INICO Self-determination Scale designed to evaluate self-determined behavior of students with intellectual disability and an exploratory study of its psychometrical properties. The scale was applied to 99 high school students with intellectual disabilities. On average, these students were 16 years old (range: 11-19). Adequate internal consistency was shown. The factor analysis supported the multidimensional structure proposed for the scale. A set of items were found for review based on discrimination index. In conclusion, initial analyses show the acceptable preliminary psychometrical properties of this measure, indicating that it’s followed the right path in the development of a tool to know the level of students in skills such as autonomy, self-regulation, empowerment or self-knowledge that will be essential in their process of transition to adulthood.
