Probing the Star Formation Main Sequence down to M at
We investigate the star formation main sequence (MS) (SFR-M) down
to 10 using a sample of 34,061 newly-discovered
ultra-faint ( mag) galaxies at detected in
the GOODS-N field. Virtually these galaxies are not contained in previous
public catalogs, effectively doubling the number of known sources in the field.
The sample was constructed by stacking the optical broad-band observations
taken by the HST/GOODS-CANDELS surveys as well as the 25 ultra-deep medium-band
images gathered by the GTC/SHARDS project. Our sources are faint (average
observed magnitudes mag, mag), blue (UV-slope
), star-forming (rest-frame colors mag,
mag) galaxies. These observational characteristics are
identified with young (mass-weighted age Gyr)
stellar populations subject to low attenuations (
mag). Our sample allows us to probe the MS down to
at and at , around 0.6 dex deeper than
previous analysis. In the low-mass galaxy regime, we find an average value for
the slope of 0.97 at and 1.12 at . Nearly 60% of our
sample presents stellar masses in the range M between
. If the slope of the MS remained constant in this regime, the sources

Efficacy of a Strategy for Implementing Guidelines for the Control of Cardiovascular Risk in Primary Healthcare
Background: A number of strategies exist for the implementation of clinical practice guides (CPGs). Aim: To assess the efficacy of implementing a cardiovascular risk CPG based on an educational method involving opinion leaders, and the habitual method of dissemination among primary healthcare teams. Design and Setting: Controlled, blinded, community intervention trial randomised by clusters. Methods: 21 primary healthcare centres were randomly assigned to either the intervention arm (n = 11) or the control arm (n = 10). The study subjects were patients aged ≥45 years assigned to the centres. The overall impact of the intervention was measured as the difference between the increase in the proportion of patients whose medical records showed the recording of all the variables necessary to calculate cardiovascular risk in both arms. Analyses were performed with Generalized Lineal Model on an intention-to-treat basis. Results: 917 subjects were included at the beginning of the trial (437 in the intervention arm and 480 in the control arm). 826 subjects were included in the final evaluation (436 in the intervention group and 390 in the control arm). At the end of the trial, the recording of the variables necessary for the calculation of the cardiovascular risk in the intervention group had increased more than in the control group (difference between increases 7.49% (95% CI 4.62 - 10.35)) after adjusting for confounding variables. Conclusions: Compared to the habitual method of dissemination, the implementation of this CPG using an educational method involving opinion leaders, improved the recording of the variables needed to calculate patients’ cardiovascular risk.Funding for the trial was provided by the Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Innovación Tecnológica (I+D+I). SHARDS frontier fields: physical properties of a low-mass Lyα emitter at z = 5.75
We analyze the properties of a multiply-imaged Lyman-alpha (Lya) emitter at
z=5.75 identified through SHARDS Frontier Fields intermediate-band imaging of
the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) cluster Abell 370. The source, A370-L57, has
low intrinsic luminosity (M_UV~-16.5), steep UV spectral index
(\beta=-2.4+/-0.1), and extreme rest-frame equivalent width of Lya
(EW(Lya)=420+180-120 \AA). Two different gravitational lens models predict high
magnification (\mu~10--16) for the two detected counter-images, separated by
7", while a predicted third counter-image (\mu~3--4) is undetected. We find
differences of ~50% in magnification between the two lens models, quantifying
our current systematic uncertainties. Integral field spectroscopy of A370-L57
with MUSE shows a narrow (FWHM=204+/-10 km/s) and asymmetric Lya profile with
an integrated luminosity L(Lya)~10^42 erg/s. The morphology in the HST bands
comprises a compact clump (r_e<100 pc) that dominates the Lya and continuum
emission and several fainter clumps at projected distances <1 kpc that coincide
with an extension of the Lya emission in the SHARDS F823W17 and MUSE
observations. The latter could be part of the same galaxy or an interacting
companion. We find no evidence of contribution from AGN to the Lya emission.
Fitting of the spectral energy distribution with stellar population models
favors a very young (t<10 Myr), low mass (M*~10^6.5 Msun), and metal poor
(Z<4x10^-3) stellar population. Its modest star formation rate (SFR~1.0
Msun/yr) implies high specific SFR (sSFR~2.5x10^-7 yr^-1) and SFR density
(Sigma_SFR ~ 7-35 Msun/yr/kpc^2). The properties of A370-L57 make it a good
representative of the population of galaxies responsible for cosmic

Estudio ROSA: validación de la versión española de la Relevant Outcome Scale for Alzheimer's Disease.
The Relevant Outcome Scale for Alzheimer's Disease (ROSA) is a useful tool for evaluating and monitoring dementia patients. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Spanish version of ROSA. Spanish multicentre study involving 39 researchers and including 237 patients with Alzheimer disease (78 mild, 79 moderate, and 80 severe). The patients were tested with the following: Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Fototest, Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Blessed dementia scale, and a Spanish-language version of ROSA. A subsample of 40 subjects was retested in the 14 days following the initial evaluation. The construct validity was evaluated with the Spearman correlation coefficient (r), internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha (alpha), and test-retest reliability with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). ROSA requires 13.8±7.4minutes to administer and its results show a significant association with the clinical stage of AD (mild, 116.7±23.1; moderate, 92.9±19.8; and severe, 64.3±22.6), and with results on the MMSE (r=0.68), Fototest (r=0.63), NPI (r=0.53), and Blessed dementia scale (r=-0.80). ROSA shows high internal consistency (alpha=0.90) and excellent test-retest reliability (ICC0.97). The Spanish version of ROSA is a brief, valid, and reliable tool permitting overall evaluation of patients with dementia
Emission line galaxies in the SHARDS Frontier Fields - I. Candidate selection and the discovery of bursty Hα emitters
Emission line galaxies provide a crucial tool for the study of galaxy formation and evolution, providing a means to trace a galaxy's star formation history or metal enrichment, and to identify galaxies at a range of stellar masses. In this paper, we present a study of emission line galaxies in the Survey for High-z Absorption Red and Dead Sources (SHARDS) Frontier Fields (FF) medium-band survey. Through detailed flux calibrations we combine the first results of the SHARDS-FF survey with existing Hubble Frontier Field data to select 1098 candidate emission line galaxies from the Hubble Frontier Filed clusters Abell 370 and MACS J1149.5+2223. Furthermore, we implement this deep medium-band imaging to update photometric redshift estimates and stellar population parameters and discover 38 predominantly low-mass Hα emitters at redshifts 0.24 < z < 0.46. Overall, 27 of these sources have corresponding ultraviolet (UV) data from the Hubble Space Telescope that allow us to distinguish these sources and investigate the burstiness of their star formation histories. We find that more than 50 per cent of our sample shows an enhancement in Hα over UV, suggesting recent bursts in star formation on time-scales of a few to tens of Myr. We investigate these sources and find that they are typically low-mass discy galaxies with normal sizes. Their structures and star formation suggest that they are not undergoing mergers but are bursting due to alternative causes, such as gas accretion.This work was supported by the Science and Technology Facilities Council in the form of a studentship to AG. Etiopatogenia del prurito asociado a la enfermedad renal crónica: recomponiendo las piezas del puzle
Resumen: Definido como la sensación desagradable que provoca el deseo de rascarse, el prurito es el síntoma cutáneo más frecuente asociado a la uremia, pudiendo aparecer en casi la mitad de los pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) avanzada. Más allá de su repercusión directa sobre la calidad de vida, el prurito asociado a la ERC (Pa-ERC) es un predictor independiente de mortalidad que además ejerce un efecto sinérgico con otros síntomas también relacionados con la calidad de vida, como la depresión y el insomnio. Aunque se han propuesto diferentes mecanismos para explicar su origen, la etiopatogenia del Pa-ERC sigue sin conocerse por completo. Dado que se han identificado nuevas dianas terapéuticas y recientemente varios ensayos clínicos han mostrado resultados prometedores, nuestra comprensión actual de las interrelaciones se ha ampliado significativamente, considerando multifactoriales los mecanismos fisiopatológicos subyacentes al Pa-ERC. En la presente revisión se discuten los potenciales factores desencadenantes de prurito en el paciente con ERC, incluyendo las hipótesis sobre la xerosis cutánea, el acúmulo de toxinas urémicas, la desregulación del sistema inmune y la inflamación sistémica, la neuropatía urémica y los desequilibrios en el sistema opioide endógeno, así como otras causas no urémicas de prurito, con el objetivo de orientar al clínico para realizar un adecuado abordaje etiopatogénico del Pa-ERC en su día a día. Abstract: Defined as the unpleasant sensation that causes the desire to scratch, pruritus is the most common skin symptom associated with uremia and appears in almost half of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Beyond its direct impact on quality of life, CKD-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is an independent predictor of mortality that also has a synergistic effect with other quality of life-related symptoms, such as insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Although different mechanisms have been proposed to explain the origin of Pa-ERC, its etiopathogenesis is still not fully understood. Since new therapeutic targets have been identified and several clinical trials have recently shown promising results, our current understanding of the interrelationships has expanded significantly and the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying CKD-aP are now considered to be multifactorial. The potential triggers of pruritus in patients with CKD are discussed in this review, including hypotheses about skin xerosis, accumulation of uremic toxins, dysregulation of the immune system and systemic inflammation, uremic neuropathy, and imbalances in the endogenous opioid system. Other non-uremic causes of pruritus are also discussed, with the aim of guiding the physicians to apply an adequate etiopathogenic approach to CKD-aP in their day-to-day clinical practice

Los temas tratados en todas las etapas son: alimentación, higiene, medio ambiente, educación sexual, educación vial y prevención de drogodependencias.
