Suplemento de artículos seleccionados con revisión del Congreso Andaluz de Psicología de la Actividad Física y el Deporte (13 : 2011 : Sevilla). Editores : José Carlos Caracuel ; Rocío Bohórquez. The main aim of the study was to examine the relationships between the motivational climate created by coaches and peers regarding collective efficacy. To this end, we used a sample of 377 football players belonging to 20 teams in Group XIV of the Spanish Third Division, who completed questionnaires on peer motivational climate, coach motivational climate and collective efficacy. After analyzing the results, we showed that the mastery climate created by peers and coach had a significant and positive relationship to collective efficacy. This association was supported by a regression analysis that showed that the mastery climate was the strongest predictor of collective efficacy. To conclude, we emphasize the importance of promoting a mastery climate in training sessions by coaches and peers to improve collective efficacy

Hsp90 activity is necessary to acquire a proper neuronal polarization

Chaperones are critical for the folding and regulation of a wide array of cellular proteins. Heat Shock Proteins (Hsps) are the most representative group of chaperones. Hsp90 represents up to 1-2% of soluble protein. Although the Hsp90 role is being studied in neurodegenerative diseases, its role in neuronal differentiation remains mostly unknown. Since neuronal polarity mechanisms depend on local stability and degradation, we asked whether Hsp90 could be a regulator of axonal polarity and growth. Thus, we studied the role of Hsp90 activity in a well established model of cultured hippocampal neurons using an Hsp90 specific inhibitor, 17-AAG. Our present data shows that Hsp90 inhibition at different developmental stages disturbs neuronal polarity formation or axonal elongation. Hsp90 inhibition during the first 3. h in culture promotes multiple axon morphology, while this inhibition after 3. h slows down axonal elongation. Hsp90 inhibition was accompanied by decreased Akt and GSK3 expression, as well as, a reduced Akt activity. In parallel, we detected an alteration of kinesin-1 subcellular distribution. Moreover, these effects were seconded by changes in Hsp70/Hsc70 subcellular localization that seem to compensate the lack of Hsp90 activity. In conclusion, our data strongly suggests that Hsp90 activity is necessary to control the expression, activity or location of specific kinases and motor proteins during the axon specification and axon elongation processes. Even more, our data demonstrate the existence of a >time-window> for axon specification in this model of cultured neurons after which the inhibition of Hsp90 only affects axonal elongation mechanisms. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.Peer Reviewe

Dropout and Engineering undergraduate programs at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia between 2012-2019

[EN] Dropout is a topic of significant concern to Higher Education Institutions, especially in Colombia it is considered one of the most important indicators to define higher education quality. Nevertheless, in Colombia, and particularly at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, it has been generally assessed only academic dropout. This decision has prevented understanding other types of dropouts that also occur in the university. The research group performed Multiple Correspondence Analysis to assess the relationship between dropout types (academic, dropout on request, and expiry of time limits) and variables such as sex, socioeconomic stratum, type of admission, and semester of dropout. In the results, we found a disparity between types of dropout concerning the type of university admission, sex, socio-economic stratum, and the semester in which dropout occurs. Women are related to the dropout request while men are associated with the academic dropout. Additionally, the academic dropout occurs in the first 4 semesters, and the expiry of time limits occurs in the last ones.Sánchez-Nítola, M.; Grijalba, DM.; Embus, M.; Suarez, A.; Guevara Montoya, J. BiVO4 with monoclinic-type structure were successfully synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method (BiMH) and hydrothermal reaction (BiH500) in aqueous medium. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Barrett–Emmett–Teller technique, diffuse re-flectance spectroscopy, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of samples was evaluated by the degradation of different pollutants such as xanthene (rhodamine B), indigoids (indigo carmine), and antibiotics tetracycline) under simulated sun-light irradiation. The relation among surface area, morphology, particle size, charge recombination, and photocatalytic performance of the powders was also discussed. The degradation of the antibiotic solution (TC) over BiVO4 photocatalyst was quickly reached for with half-life time (t1/2) minor than 12 min. On the other hand, in the case of organic dyes (RhB and IC) the best results were t1/2 = 79 and 150 min under simulated sun-light irradiation, respectively. BiVO4, had a good stability, did not present photocorroded under irradiation. The degree of mineralization of the organic compounds was determined by total organic content (TOC) analysis, which revealed that mineralization by the action of BiMH is feasible in 83 % (RhB), 58 % (IC), and 50 % (TC) after 96 h of irradiatio

Chitosan and Xyloglucan-Based Hydrogels: An Overview of Synthetic and Functional Utility

    Get PDF
The development of new strategies for wound healing has resulted in the design of biomedical devices using polymers of natural origin. Hydrogels are biomaterials formed by three-dimensional polymeric networks that can retain large amounts of water or biological fluids, and smooth texture similar to living tissue. Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide, (1-4)-2-amino-2deoxy-ß-D-glucan, which has desirable features such as biocompatibility, non-toxicity, hemostasis and antibacterial character. Xyloglucans have different applications in tissue engineering for their physicochemical properties, biocompatibility and control of cell expansion. Hydrogels had been made of homogeneous mixtures prepared of chitosan and purified xyloglucan, followed by a freeze-drying process to develop a flexible and porous structure. Additionally, their mechanical properties such as porosity, solubility, biodegradation, and the antibacterial activity of the hydrogels are studied. The results suggest that the incorporation of xyloglucan favors the characteristics from chitosan-based hydrogels, providing a promising alternative for application in biomaterials with antimicrobial activity

A stratified random bottom trawl survey on Flemish Cap was carried out from June 16th to July 15th 2017. The area surveyed was extended up to depths of 800 fathoms (1460 meters) following the same procedures as in previous years and 181 fishing stations planned. The survey was carried out by the R/V Vizconde de Eza with the usual survey gear (Lofoten). A total of 181 valid hauls were made by the vessel R/V Vizconde de Eza, 120 up to 730 meters depth and 61 up to 1460 meters. Survey results including abundance indices of the main commercial species and age distributions for American plaice, Greenland halibut, roughhead grenadier and shrimp are presented. Cod and redfish age distributions are not available for 2017 due to administrative problems. The general indexes for this year are estimated taken into account the traditional swept area (strata 1-19, up to depths of 730 m.) and the total area surveyed (strata 1-34, up to depths of 1460 m.).Versión del editor

Simulador gastrointestinal dinámico (simgi®): Una herramienta potencialmente útil en nutrición clínica

The human gastrointestinal tract harbours the most complex and abundant community of the human body, the colon being where the highest microbial concentration is found (10 12 cell/g). The intestinal microbiota exerts metabolic, trophic and protective functions which are important in the maintenance of the host health. Over recent decades, numerous studies have attempted to provide scientific evidence about the environmental factors that can impact on human health through the modulation of the intestinal microbiota composition. However, this approach is changing, and a new focus on assessing changes at functional level is being developed. If we apply this dual approach to the role played by the diet, it is obvious the need of dynamic gastrointestinal simulation models such as simgi®, that allow to evaluate the transformations undergone by food and/or food ingredients during their transit through the gastrointestinal tract, as well as to determine potential changes in the composition and functionality of the intestinal microbiota after food ingestion. So far the studies using the simgi® have confirmed its potential applications in the area of food as a prior step to its application in clinical nutrition to prevent and/or treat diseases associated with intestinal dysbiosis and metabolic disorders. Likewise, this review includes feasible perspectives of the use of simgi® in clinical research concerning to diseases related to the intestinal microbiota. Onions exert their effects on human health via multiple different functions, including antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and antibacterial properties. Upregulation of hyaluronidase activity occurs in chronic inflammatory conditions. High hydrostatic pressure food processing offers the chance of producing functional foods, in the sense that not only preserve the nutritional, microbiological and sensorial quality of foods, but also can improve the extraction of potentially health-related compounds due to the effects of this technology on plant food structure. Onions are a good source of bioactive compounds, such as phenolic compounds and organosulfur compounds, which have been related to beneficial health effects mainly due to their antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. In this study we evaluated the ability of onion treated by highpressure to inhibit in vitro hyaluronidase activity, as an in vitro measurement of its antiinflammatory activity.Peer Reviewe
