    Improvement of color image analysis using a hybrid artificial intelligence algorithm

    Large communications of voice and images over the Internet, which leads to limited space for very large data during the aforementioned correspondence, to overcome this issue to maintain the quality of this technology. The proposal in the efficient algorithm in this work is a method to derive the two new filters from the second and third Chebyshev polynomials by forming the discrete wavelets with the mother wavelet to be used in image processing in order to overcome the problem mentioned above due to the correspondence, The filters that were derived are Filter Discrete Second Chebyshev Wavelets Transform (FDSCWT) and Filter Discrete Third Chebyshev Wavelets Transform (FDTCWT)to process the image by analysis, noise reduction, and image compression. Many of the techniques previously used in the field of image processing do not preserve image information during processing, but when using the new technology proposed in this work, it has been proven to preserve the image with its important information and data through the readings obtained shown in the tables below. These readings are average. Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal Noise Ratio (PSNR), Bits Per Pixel (BPP), and Compression Ratio (CR) in preprocessing. After the initial processing stage, the deep learning stage begins in the field of artificial intelligence. A (CNN) is trained with the two new filters to be the first Discrete Second Chebyshev Wavelets (DSCWCNN) and the second Discrete Third Chebyshev Wavelets Convolutional Neural Network (DTCWCNN), with the code being generated in the MATLAB program with a network Alex Net to complete the classification process that was added in this work to implement the recognition technology.     Reducing the environmental impact of surgery on a global scale: systematic review and co-prioritization with healthcare workers in 132 countries

    Abstract Background Healthcare cannot achieve net-zero carbon without addressing operating theatres. The aim of this study was to prioritize feasible interventions to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. Methods This study adopted a four-phase Delphi consensus co-prioritization methodology. In phase 1, a systematic review of published interventions and global consultation of perioperative healthcare professionals were used to longlist interventions. In phase 2, iterative thematic analysis consolidated comparable interventions into a shortlist. In phase 3, the shortlist was co-prioritized based on patient and clinician views on acceptability, feasibility, and safety. In phase 4, ranked lists of interventions were presented by their relevance to high-income countries and low–middle-income countries. Results In phase 1, 43 interventions were identified, which had low uptake in practice according to 3042 professionals globally. In phase 2, a shortlist of 15 intervention domains was generated. In phase 3, interventions were deemed acceptable for more than 90 per cent of patients except for reducing general anaesthesia (84 per cent) and re-sterilization of ‘single-use’ consumables (86 per cent). In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for high-income countries were: introducing recycling; reducing use of anaesthetic gases; and appropriate clinical waste processing. In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for low–middle-income countries were: introducing reusable surgical devices; reducing use of consumables; and reducing the use of general anaesthesia. Conclusion This is a step toward environmentally sustainable operating environments with actionable interventions applicable to both high– and low–middle–income countries

    Sensitivity of Summertime Convection to Aerosol Loading and Properties in the United Arab Emirates

    The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model is used to investigate convection–aerosol interactions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a summertime convective event. Both an idealized and climatological aerosol distributions are considered. The convection on 14 August 2013 was triggered by the low-level convergence of the cyclonic circulation associated with the Arabian Heat Low (AHL) and the daytime sea-breeze circulation. Numerical experiments reveal a high sensitivity to aerosol properties. In particular, replacing 20% of the rural aerosols by carbonaceous particles has a comparable impact on the surface radiative fluxes to increasing the aerosol loading by a factor of 10. In both cases, the UAE-averaged net shortwave flux is reduced by ~90 W m−2 while the net longwave flux increases by ~51 W m−2. However, when the aerosol composition is changed, WRF generates 20% more precipitation than when the aerosol loading is increased, due to a broader and weaker AHL. The surface downward and upward shortwave and upward longwave radiation fluxes are found to scale linearly with the aerosol loading. An increase in the amount of aerosols also leads to drier conditions and a delay in the onset of convection due to changes in the AHL

    The influence of COVID-19 preventive measures on the air quality in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)

    The preventive and cautionary measures taken by the UAE and Abu Dhabi governments to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and promote social distancing have led to a reduction of mobility and a modification of economic and social activities. This paper provides statistical analysis of the air quality data monitored by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) during the first 10 months of 2020, comparing the different stages of the preventive measures. Ground monitoring data is compared with satellite images and mobility indicators. The study shows a drastic decrease during lockdown in the concentration of the gaseous pollutants analysed (NO2, SO2, CO, and C6H6) that aligns with the results reported in other international cities and metropolitan areas. However, particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) averaged concentrations followed a markedly different trend from the gaseous pollutants, indicating a larger influence from natural events (sand and dust storms) and other anthropogenic sources. The ozone (O3) levels increased during the lockdown, showing the complexity of O3 formation. The end of lockdown led to an increase of the mobility and the air pollution; however, air pollutant concentrations remained in lower levels than during the same period of 2019. The results in this study show the large impact of human activities on the quality of air and present an opportunity for policymakers and decision-makers to design stimulus packages to overcome the economic slow-down, with strategies to accelerate the transition to resilient, low-emission economies and societies more connected to the nature that protect human health and the environment.The authors would like to thank the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi Management for supporting and funding the EAD Air Quality Monitoring Network.     Impact of the Methylene Bridge Substitution in Chelating NHC‐Phosphine Mn(I) Catalyst for Ketone Hydrogenation

    International audienceSystematic modification of the chelating NHC‐phosphine ligand (NHC = N ‐heterocyclic carbene) in highly efficient ketone hydrogenation Mn(I) catalyst fac ‐[(Ph 2 PCH 2 NHC)Mn(CO) 3 Br] has been performed and the catalytic activity of the resulting complexes was evaluated using acetophenone as a benchmark substrate. While the variation of phosphine and NHC moieties led to inferior results than for a parent system, the incorporation of a phenyl substituent into the ligand methylene bridge improved catalytic performance by ca . 3 times providing maximal TON values in the range of 15000–20000. Mechanistic investigation combining experimental and computational studies allowed to rationalize this beneficial effect as an enhanced stabilization of reaction intermediates including anionic hydride species fac ‐[(Ph 2 PC(Ph)NHC)Mn(CO) 3 H] − playing a crucial role in the hydrogenation process. These results highlight the interest of such carbon bridge substitution strategy being rarely employed in the design of chemically non‐innocent ligands

    Hydrogenation of carboxylic esters catalyzed by manganese catalysts supported by bidentate NHC-phosphine ligands

    International audienceA series of bidentate manganese complexes with a general structure [(κ2C,P-R2PCH2CH2-NHC)Mn(CO)3Br] (NHC = N-substituted imidazolylidene) was prepared and fully characterized. These complexes were proven to be efficient catalysts for the hydrogenation of carboxylic ester derivatives with a low catalyst loading (0.5 mol%) in 2-Me-THF at 100 °C in the presence of KHBEt3. The generality of this hydrogenation was exemplified with more than 25 substrates.     Global economic burden of unmet surgical need for appendicitis

    Background There is a substantial gap in provision of adequate surgical care in many low- and middle-income countries. This study aimed to identify the economic burden of unmet surgical need for the common condition of appendicitis. Methods Data on the incidence of appendicitis from 170 countries and two different approaches were used to estimate numbers of patients who do not receive surgery: as a fixed proportion of the total unmet surgical need per country (approach 1); and based on country income status (approach 2). Indirect costs with current levels of access and local quality, and those if quality were at the standards of high-income countries, were estimated. A human capital approach was applied, focusing on the economic burden resulting from premature death and absenteeism. Results Excess mortality was 4185 per 100 000 cases of appendicitis using approach 1 and 3448 per 100 000 using approach 2. The economic burden of continuing current levels of access and local quality was US 92492millionusingapproach1and92 492 million using approach 1 and 73 141 million using approach 2. The economic burden of not providing surgical care to the standards of high-income countries was 95004millionusingapproach1and95 004 million using approach 1 and 75 666 million using approach 2.     Pancreatic surgery outcomes: multicentre prospective snapshot study in 67 countries

    Background: Pancreatic surgery remains associated with high morbidity rates. Although postoperative mortality appears to have improved with specialization, the outcomes reported in the literature reflect the activity of highly specialized centres. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes following pancreatic surgery worldwide.Methods: This was an international, prospective, multicentre, cross-sectional snapshot study of consecutive patients undergoing pancreatic operations worldwide in a 3-month interval in 2021. The primary outcome was postoperative mortality within 90 days of surgery. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore relationships with Human Development Index (HDI) and other parameters.Results: A total of 4223 patients from 67 countries were analysed. A complication of any severity was detected in 68.7 percent of patients (2901 of 4223). Major complication rates (Clavien-Dindo grade at least IIIa) were 24, 18, and 27 percent, and mortality rates were 10, 5, and 5 per cent in low-to-middle-, high-, and very high-HDI countries respectively. The 90-day postoperative mortality rate was 5.4 per cent (229 of 4223) overall, but was significantly higher in the low-to-middle-HDI group (adjusted OR 2.88, 95 per cent c.i. 1.80 to 4.48). The overall failure-to-rescue rate was 21 percent; however, it was 41 per cent in low-to-middle-compared with 19 per cent in very high-HDI countries.Conclusion: Excess mortality in low-to-middle-HDI countries could be attributable to failure to rescue of patients from severe complications. The authors call for a collaborative response from international and regional associations of pancreatic surgeons to address management related to death from postoperative complications to tackle the global disparities in the outcomes of pancreatic surgery (NCT04652271; ISRCTN95140761)
