The limits of low-cost cinema in Spain: an analysis of the #Littlesecretfilm movement

Based on a reconstruction and examination of its development from its foundation (with the publication of a manifesto in the form of ten commandments) through to its products (a full survey of which are presented here), this article offers a meaningful and not entirely uncritical snapshot of a conscious proposal of a low-cost production model in contemporary Spain. In our conclusion, we tie this film movement in with international debates about the viability of a low-cost approach in the context of a national film industry that has been left badly battered by the financial crisis that began in 2008

Foreign Direct Investment in a Process of Economic Integration: The Case of Spanish Manufacturing, 1986-1992

In this paper we analyze the main characteristic features of foreign direct investment (FDI) directed to Spanish manufacturing, both across industries and through time, for the years 1986- 1992. During this period, Spain was one of the most important recipients of FDI inflows in the world, coinciding with the first years of integration into the European Union and the prospects about the completion of the Single European Market by 1992. To this end, a relative FDI measure is related to several industry indicators, as well as to some macroeconomic variables, which allows us to obtain a general characterization of FDI in Spanish manufacturing over that period.Foreign direct investment, Spanish manufacturing industry, European integration

Tourism and productivity: Case study of the hotel and catering industry in the Andalusian region

The object of this paper is to analyse the situation and evolution of the productivity of the tourism industry in the Andalusian region, and more specifically of the hotel and catering branch, relating it to the organisational structure of its businesses. First of all, the issue of the definition and limitation of the concept of productivity applied to the services sector is addressed, as traditionally this concept is focused on manufacturing, and the different ways of measuring and the analysis methods are reviewed. Then, using the accounting information provided by the Balances Centre of Andalusia (CBA), the general features of the organisational structure of the hotel and catering industry in de Andalusian region, stratifying the samples by the size of the companies and examining the medium size of the Andalusian hotel and catering businesses. Once the organisational structure of the sector is analysed, it is related to the state and evolution of its productivity, using a simple ratio between the brute added value and the personnel expenses, and completing this analysis with a relative efficiency index, the Baldwin efficiency index, with which the technical efficiency of each company is compared to the mass of most efficient companies. As a result of this research it is observed that the productivity indexes increase as web as the size of the companies and during the considered period, especially in the case of the medium sized and large companies. Nevertheless, these productivity increases are less relevant than the increase of employment, especially in case of smaller companies.

El discurso oral en el aula de Primaria

Curs acadèmic: 2018/2019El trabajo que presento pretende dar un lugar mucho más importante a la expresión oral en la dinámica habitual en las aulas de educación Primaria, dejando a un lado las expresiones coloquiales y dotando dichas actividades de contenido lingüístico; pues esta actividad es imprescindible en todas las áreas y materias del currículum y suele dejarse en el olvido con facilidad. Además, pretende realizar una propuesta didáctica en la que poder aplicar dichos conocimientos en el aula a través de los distintos mecanismos de expresión oral, tales como la encuesta, la conversación, la tertulia, la exposición y la dramatización. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es la programación de una serie de dinámicas de aula donde el alumnado de Primaria pueda desarrollar un discurso oral de manera dispar. Se realizaría en la asignatura de Lengua Castellana y se dedicaría una sesión a la semana a la consecución de este objetivo. Dichas sesiones estarían planteadas mediante actividades dinámicas con temáticas diferentes, dependiendo de la actividad que realicen, donde se profundizaría en los contenidos del currículum tratándolos de manera oral. Por último, mencionar que, esta manera de trabajar la oralidad permite al alumnado adaptarse a un registro académico más formal, además de interactuar con el resto de compañeras y compañeros de una manera más dinámica e innovadora

La incidencia del ajuste en el doblaje sobre la oralidad: el caso de la comedia negra

Curs acadèmic 2016/2017El propósito principal del presente trabajo de investigación es analizar la incidencia de la isocronía y la sincronía fonética en las soluciones de traducción para el doblaje al español de tres filmes pertenecientes al género de la comedia negra. Como punto de partida, tomamos un marco teórico en el que se definen la traducción audiovisual y la modalidad del doblaje, así como los ingredientes que conformarán nuestro análisis: la isocronía y la sincronía fonética y un modelo lingüístico, el dubbese o registro del doblaje, como ejemplo de discurso oral prefabricado. A continuación, planteamos un modelo de análisis que servirá como base para estudiar los mecanismos que se han empleado en la traducción para el doblaje al español de los primeros y primerísimos planos de la filmografía que conforma nuestro corpus, teniendo en cuenta las restricciones de la sincronía y la sincronía fonética. A partir de los datos obtenidos, tratamos de descubrir qué tendencias se siguen en la traducción para el doblaje de primeros y primerísimos planos y cómo afectan al modelo de lengua del doblaje. El análisis ha puesto de manifiesto que el traductor, el adaptador o el director de doblaje han empleado diversas estrategias y recursos que no se corresponden con el registro del doblaje o el discurso oral prefabricado descrito hasta la fecha. Por último, la comparación entre la versión original y la versión doblada al español revela que, según suponíamos, el ajuste labial incide notablemente en las decisiones de traducción y, aunque influye en la búsqueda de naturalidad de los diálogos, en muchas ocasiones se ha sorteado dicha restricción para conseguir transmitir la esencia de la comedia negra

Estudio del hibridismo en la serie del detective Charlie Parker de John Connolly: de la novela enigma a la criminal.

En este estudio realizaremos un análisis de la serie narrativa del detective-inspector Charlie Parker, profundizando en el noven y último volumen publicado: Voces que susurran (The Whisperers, 2010).1 El motivo de esta elección es que «ofrece un excelente ejemplo de cómo los subgéneros novelescos se actualizan, enriquecen y se modifican constantemente gracias al continuo intercambio de préstamos técnico-temáticos. Esta, y no otra, es la gran aportación del irlandés Connolly: encajar los elementos de la novela terrorífica en el plano discursivo de la narración policíaca.» (Álamos Felices, 2011). Realizaremos una comparación entre los principales rasgos de la novela enigma tradicional y las orientaciones de la novela negra contemporánea, incluido el film noir, sin perder de vista la novela de Connolly para su análisis y posterior crítica. This essay analysizes John Connolly’s last published novel starring detectiveinspector Charlie Parker, The Whisperers (2010). So far, John Connolly has published nine novels within this series, and the reason for its analysis is that «we think it offers an excellent example of how the novel subgenres are constantly actualized, enriched, and modified thanks to a continuos interchange of technic-thematic loans. This is Connolly’s great contribution, to fit horror novel elements into the detective fiction discursive level.» (Álamos Felices, 2011). Thus, a comparison process will be realized between the main features of traditional detective fiction and the noir fiction contemporary orientations, including the film noir, while keeping an eye on Connolly’s novel for its analysis and posterior review

The Big Data razor

Classic conceptions of model simplicity for machine learning are mainly based on the analysis of the structure of the model. Bayesian, Frequentist, information theoretic and expressive power concepts are the best known of them, which are reviewed in this work, along with their underlying assumptions and weaknesses. These approaches were developed before the advent of the Big Data deluge, which has overturned the importance of structural simplicity. The computational simplicity concept is presented, and it is argued that it is more encompassing and closer to actual machine learning practices than the classic ones. In order to process the huge datasets which are commonplace nowadays, the computational complexity of the learning algorithm is the decisive factor to assess the viability of a machine learning strategy, while the classic accounts of simplicity play a surrogate role. Some of the desirable features of computational simplicity derive from its reliance on the learning system concept, which integrates key aspects of machine learning that are ignored by the classic concepts. Moreover, computational simplicity is directly associated with energy efficiency. In particular, the question of whether the maximum possibly achievable predictive accuracy should be attained, no matter the economic cost of the associated energy consumption pattern, is considered
