    Long transient dynamics in the Anderson-Holstein model out of equilibrium

    We calculate the time dependent nonequilibrium current through a single level quantum dot strongly coupled to a vibrational mode. The nonequilibrium real time dynamics caused by an instantaneous coupling of the leads to the quantum dot is discussed using an approximate method. The approach, which is specially designed for the strong polaronic regime, is based on the so-called polaron tunneling approximation. Considering different initial dot occupations, we show that a common steady state is reached after times much larger than the typical electron tunneling times due to a polaron blocking effect in the dot charge. A direct comparison is made with numerically exact data, showing good agreement for the time scales accessible by the diagrammatic Monte Carlo simulation method

    Geminivirus Rep Protein Interferes with the Plant DNA Methylation Machinery and Suppresses Transcriptional Gene Silencing

    Viruses are masters at circumventing host defenses and manipulating the cellular environment for their own benefit. The replication of the largest known family of single-stranded DNA viruses, Geminiviridae, is impaired by DNA methylation but the fact that plants might use methylation as a defense against geminiviruses and the impact that viral genome methylation may have during the infection, remain controversial. We have found that geminiviruses reduce the expression of the plant maintenance DNA methyltransferases, MET1 and CMT3, in both, locally and systemically infected tissues. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the virus-mediated repression of these two maintenance DNA methyltransferases is widely spread among different geminivirus species and we have identified Rep as the geminiviral protein responsible for the repression of MET1 and CMT3. The presence of Rep, suppresses transcriptional gene silencing (TGS) of an Arabidopsis transgene and of host loci whose expression is strongly controlled by MET1. Bisulfite sequencing analyses showed that the expression of Rep caused a substantial reduction in the levels of DNA methylation at certain loci at CG sites.     Evaluation of the efficiency of conductor coverings for electrostatical shielding and dissipation of static charge in an insulating polymer

    Neste trabalho foram processadas tintas base epóxi pigmentadas com polianilina (PAni), que é um polímero intrinsecamente condutor, em diferentes composições. O objetivo foi avaliar a eficiência dos revestimentos condutores em um substrato isolante como o copolímero Acrinonitrila-Butadieno-Estireno (ABS) para blindagem e dissipação da carga estática. Foi realizada uma investigação por análise de infravermelho no revestimento da mistura entre PAni e epóxi, para verificar se houve reações que resultassem em novas ligações químicas. Foi avaliada a distribuição das fibras da PAni e a rugosidade dos revestimentos através de um microscópio eletrônico de varredura e um rugosímetro para analisar a influência dessas características dos filmes na condutividade final das amostras. As medições da condutividade foram feitas por um ensaio em quatro pontas e desse modo foi avaliada a influência da degradação na condutância desses revestimentos. Comparando com indicadores estabelecidos em outros trabalhos se constatou a possibilidade do uso dos revestimentos pigmentados com PAni para blindagem e dissipação da carga estática do material não condutor, que é o copolímero ABS.In this work, epoxy base paints pigmented with polyaniline (PAni), which is an intrinsically conductive polymer, were accomplished in different compositions. The objective was to evaluate an efficient conductive coating on an insulating substrate, such as the Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS), for shielding and dissipation of the static charge. An investigation was performed by infrared analysis on the coating of the mixture between PAni and epoxy, to verify if there were reactions that resulted in new chemical bonds. The distribution of the PAni fibers and the roughness of the coatings were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and rugosimetry to analyze the characteristics of the conductive inks in the samples. Conductivity measurements were carried out at four points and the influence of the degradation on the conductance of these coatings was evaluated. Comparing with the indicators established in other studies, it was possible to use conductive coatings pigmented with PAni for shielding and dissipation of the static load of nonconductive materials

    Tree biomass equations from terrestrial LiDAR : a case study in Guyana

    Large uncertainties in tree and forest carbon estimates weaken national efforts to accurately estimate aboveground biomass (AGB) for their national monitoring, measurement, reporting and verification system. Allometric equations to estimate biomass have improved, but remain limited. They rely on destructive sampling; large trees are under-represented in the data used to create them; and they cannot always be applied to different regions. These factors lead to uncertainties and systematic errors in biomass estimations. We developed allometric models to estimate tree AGB in Guyana. These models were based on tree attributes (diameter, height, crown diameter) obtained from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) point clouds from 72 tropical trees and wood density. We validated our methods and models with data from 26 additional destructively harvested trees. We found that our best TLS-derived allometric models included crown diameter, provided more accurate AGB estimates (R-2 = 0.92-0.93) than traditional pantropical models (R-2 = 0.85-0.89), and were especially accurate for large trees (diameter > 70 cm). The assessed pantropical models underestimated AGB by 4 to 13%. Nevertheless, one pantropical model (Chave et al. 2005 without height) consistently performed best among the pantropical models tested (R-2 = 0.89) and predicted AGB accurately across all size classes-which but for this could not be known without destructive or TLS-derived validation data. Our methods also demonstrate that tree height is difficult to measure in situ, and the inclusion of height in allometric models consistently worsened AGB estimates. We determined that TLS-derived AGB estimates were unbiased. Our approach advances methods to be able to develop, test, and choose allometric models without the need to harvest trees

    Adaptive sparse group LASSO in quantile regression

    [EN] This paper studies the introduction of sparse group LASSO (SGL) to the quantile regression framework. Additionally, a more flexible version, an adaptive SGL is proposed based on the adaptive idea, this is, the usage of adaptive weights in the penalization. Adaptive estimators are usually focused on the study of the oracle property under asymptotic and double asymptotic frameworks. A key step on the demonstration of this property is to consider adaptive weights based on a initial root n-consistent estimator. In practice this implies the usage of a non penalized estimator that limits the adaptive solutions to low dimensional scenarios. In this work, several solutions, based on dimension reduction techniques PCA and PLS, are studied for the calculation of these weights in high dimensional frameworks. The benefits of this proposal are studied both in synthetic and real datasets.We appreciate the work of the referees that has contributed to substantially improve the scientific contributions of this work.     Desempeño docente y clima institucional en la Institución Educativa Particular "Innova Schools" Los Olivos-UGEL 02 - Rímac

    El objetivo del estudio fue “Determinar la relación que existe entre Clima institucional y Desempeño Docente en la Institución educativa particular “Innova Shools” Los Olivos-UGEL 02-Rímac”. Consistió en una investigación básica, que se desarrolló bajo un diseño no experimental, transversal correlacional; para recoger la información acerca del Clima institucional y el desempeño Docente en la Institución educativa particular “Innova Shools” Los Olivos-UGEL 02-Rímac, para ello se emplearon dos cuestionarios para la toma de datos perceptivos, directamente a los docentes, dichos instrumentos fueron construidos y validados por expertos, es un estudio censal conformada por 90 docentes de la menciona institución. Las conclusiones del estudio indican que: Con un coeficiente de correlación rho Spearman = ,558 y un valor p = 0,000 menor al nivel α = 0,05, se concluye que: Existe relación significativa entre el Clima institucional y el Desempeño docente en la Institución educativa particular “Innova Shools” Los Olivos-UGEL 02-Rímac.     Designing and Developing New VET Curricula to Address Skills Gaps in the Aeronautics Industry

    Aeronautic industry is one of the enablers of the economic development and social insertion at European level, and it is one of the drivers of expansion of remote regions as far as it allows habitants, workers, and companies at these regions to expand their activities and areas of influence. The European aeronautics industry, including the commercial air transport, generates more than 220 billion of Euros and more than 4.5 million of jobs. These figures are expected to be double by 2030. Future developments in the sector, together with greater intra-European mobility of workers and population aging, bring a greater need for new skills in the work force together with an urgency for a larger number of professionals. Therefore, to achieve the desirable sustained growth the EU needs to invest in high-quality VET (vocational education and training) in order to be able to supply the AI (aeronautic industry) with qualified workers. VET stands for education and training which aims to equip people with knowledge, know-how, skills and/or competences required in particular occupations or more broadly on the labor market. This work discusses the outcomes of the AIRVET project, an European partnership whose principal objective is the development and promotion of “curricula and VET courses” in the Maintenance and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) domains, required for a highly skilled aeronautical workforce
