A Mobile App to Manage Children Dental Anxiety: Context and Approach
Anxiety and fear related to dentistry interventions have been identified as problems affecting children. This reduces their
quality of life and may have a negative impact on aspects such as sleep, self –esteem, mood, social relationships, and
other psychological issues. The ARCADE project aims to design and develop a technological solution to manage children
dental anxiety. This solution consists on a mobile system co-designed with children. An ecological momentary
intervention is proposed using this solution before, during and after dentistry treatments. This paper presents a
methodological approach to develop the project

This is the author’s version of a work that was accepted for publication in Pattern Recognition Letters. Changes resulting from the publishing process, such as peer review, editing, corrections, structural formatting, and other quality control mechanisms may not be reflected in this document. Changes may have been made to this work since it was submitted for publication. A definitive version was subsequently published in Pattern Recognition Letters 26.16 (2005): 2628 – 2639, DOI: 10.1016/j.patrec.2005.06.008A novel adapted strategy for combining general and user-dependent knowledge
at the decision-level in multimodal biometric authentication is presented. User-
independent, user-dependent, and adapted fusion and decision schemes are com-
pared by using a bimodal system based on ¯ngerprint and written signature. The
adapted approach is shown to outperform the other strategies considered in this pa-
per. Exploiting available information for training the fusion function is also shown
to be better than using existing information for post-fusion trained decisions. This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministry for Science and Tech-

Currently green roofs, along with vertical gardens in buildings, are an important improvement of the urban environment, which provide benefits to the urban environment, the landscape and the energy balance of buildings.
The exterior landscaping (upper roof and façade) of the buildings of the EPSG is framed in the context of ecoconstruction or sustainable construction.
The current trend towards urban integration in the natural environment, the unique architecture of these buildings and the location close to a green area such as the Marjal de Gandia make up a set of factors suitable for the creation of this green space that would be an excellent point of diffusion of these ecological construction models.
The study will consider, in addition to the aesthetic or landscape perspective, the provision of a series of ecological functionalities. Among which stand out the energetic saving, thermal and acoustic isolation, retention of pluvial waters, filtration of urban pollutants, promotion of ecological values, creation of new habitats, etc.García Romero, D. Characterization and modeling of the purkinje system for biophysical simulations
The usability of computer models of the heart depends mostly on their capacity to accurately represent heart anatomy, microstructure and function. However, integrating such a variety of biological data is often not possible. This is the case of the cardiac conduction system (CCS), which is responsible for the fast and coordinated distribution of the electrical impulses. The CCS cannot be observed in-vivo but it is mandatory in several cardiac modeling applications involving arrhythmias.
The aims of this thesis are to show the importance of explicitly modeling the CCS structure and function for an accurate description of the electrical activation of the ventricles and to present a novel technique to build automatically a CCS structure that meets physiological observations. Pursuing that goal has required a multidisciplinary effort to build models for cardiac electrophysiology, and imaging techniques to acquire and analyze data of the CCS at different scales.
Hertz-Resolution Analog Quadrature Sine Oscillator. Application to Portable Lock-In Amplifiers
This paper presents the implementation of an analog quadrature sine oscillator capable of generating variable frequency quadrature signals, ranging from 1-100 kHz with less than 2 Hz resolution and a peak-to-peak voltage of 3 V operating at a 3.3 V single supply, to be utilized in high performance portable instrumentation
LightDock: a new multi-scale approach to protein–protein docking
Computational prediction of protein–protein complex structure by docking can provide structural and mechanistic insights for protein interactions of biomedical interest. However, current methods struggle with difficult cases, such as those involving flexible proteins, low-affinity complexes or transient interactions. A major challenge is how to efficiently sample the structural and energetic landscape of the association at different resolution levels, given that each scoring function is often highly coupled to a specific type of search method. Thus, new methodologies capable of accommodating multi-scale conformational flexibility and scoring are strongly needed.
We describe here a new multi-scale protein–protein docking methodology, LightDock, capable of accommodating conformational flexibility and a variety of scoring functions at different resolution levels. Implicit use of normal modes during the search and atomic/coarse-grained combined scoring functions yielded improved predictive results with respect to state-of-the-art rigid-body docking, especially in flexible cases.B.J-G was supported by a FPI fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and
