Multilateralism as Interventionism. United States and the Society of Nations in Latin America (1930-1946)

Este artículo analiza una dinámica de intervenciones de Estados Unidos en América Latina que no ha atraído suficientemente la atención de los historiadores. En los años treinta y cuarenta, cuando Europa se hundía en una nueva confrontación bélica, ciertos sectores del gobierno y del mundo empresarial norteamericano intentaron articular una nueva relación con los países del continente basada en una propuesta de multilateralismo que se había configurado dentro de la Sociedad de Naciones (SN). Estos estadounidenses intentaron establecer una dinámica de relaciones triangulares con los gobiernos latinoamericanos y los organismos técnicos de la SN. Gracias a ello, como se mostrará en este artículo para el caso del funcionamiento del Comité Fiscal de la Sociedad de Naciones, los latinoamericanos fueron capaces de influir en el tipo de políticas que debían emanar de esta relación triangular. La importancia de esta historia no es menor. La relación triangular entre Estados Unidos, América Latina y la SN sirvió de base para la reconstrucción de la gobernanza global liderada por los Estados Unidos tras la guerra.This article analyzes a dynamic of the United States’ interventions in Latin America, that hasn’t sufficiently attracted the attention of historians. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, when Europe was descending into a new military conflict, certain United States government and business sectors attempted to articulate a new relationship with the nations of the continent, based on a proposal of multilateralism that had been set up within the Society of Nations (SN). These Americans attempted to establish a dynamic of triangular relations with the governments of Latin America and the technical organisms of the SN. As the article will demonstrate in the case of the Society of Nations’ Fiscal Committee, thanks to this, Latin-Americans were capable of influencing the type of policies that were to come out of this triangular relationship. The importance of this history is no small matter. De las escuelas de artes y oficios a la Universidad obrera nacional: Estado, elites y educación técnica en Argentina, 1914-1955

Este artículo ofrece una interpretación sobre los orígenes de la Universidad Obrera Nacional en Argentina, creada durante el primer gobierno de Juan Domingo Perón (1946-1952). Más allá de los objetivos específicos en materia universitaria del gobierno peronista, la Universidad Obrera puede ser entendida como la culminación de un largo proceso de disputas entre sectores de las elites y el estado sobre la educación técnica que debían recibir los trabajadores argentinos. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar esas disputas y sus consecuencias en el largo plazo.From the Vocational Schools to the Universidad Obrera Nacional. State, Elites and echnical Training in Argentina, 1914-1955. This article offers an interpretation of the origins of the Universidad Obrera Nacional in Argentina -created during Juan Domingo Peróns first administration (1946-1952). Beyond Peronist specific goals as far as the University system was concerned, the Universidad Obrera could also be understood as the result of a protracted dispute among elites and the state about the vocational training of Argentine workers. El Banco de Londres y del Río de la Plata y el negocio azucarero en Tucumán, Argentina (1909-1914)

Editada en la Fundación Empresa PúblicaEl objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la política del Banco de Londres y del Río de la Plata en su sucursal de Tucumán en los años anteriores a la Primera Guerra Mundial. La historiografía, tradicionalmente, ha afirmado que el Banco de Londres tuvo una actitud muy conservadora, especialmente en lo que hacía referencia a los negocios industriales, y que estuvo más preocupado por los negocios agroexportadores. Esta actitud de la institución inglesa fue también la que tuvieron la banca y el mercado de capitales argentinos, a los que se ha responsabilizado del fracaso de la industria argentina. Para introducir un matiz a esa visión, en este artículo trato de mostrar un caso en el que una industris volcada al mercado interno se benefició ampliamente de la labor del Banco de Londres, gracias a la expansión bancaria que provocó el auge exportador argentino de principios de siglo y a las propias condiciones económicas, sociales e ideológicas de la provincia azucarera que imponían modificaciones en las políticas habituales de la institución británica.The main aim of this paper is to analyse the policy of the Tucuman's branch of the Bank of London and River Plate before the WWI. The hístoriography has stated that the Bank of London had a very conservative attitude related to the manufactures and it was more concerned about agro-export business. This policy, foUowed by all the prívate banks, and the underdeveloped capital market share the responsibility for the Argentine industrialization failure. However, this is not the whole story. I show in this paper the case of the sugar industry in Tucuman that, circumscribed to the domestic market, obtained important benefits from the Bank of London. This fact was due to the financial boom caused by the increase in exports at the begínning of the century and to the economic, social and ideological realms in Tucuman which led the Bank of London to a policy shift.Publicad

Fundamentos de la biopsia del ganglio centinela en el cáncer de mama

La linfadenectomía axilar es el método clásico para informarnos del estado de los ganglios axilares en el cáncer de mama. Sin embargo, al incorporarse el screenning mamográfico, los tumores diagnosticados en la actualidad son de tamaño reducido. Por lo tanto, el porcentaje de pacientes en las cuales esperamos que exista afectación axilar es muy bajo en la actualidad. La linfadenectomía axilar no está exenta de morbilidad; afecta al 80% de las pacientes sometidas a resección axilar niveles I y II. En el caso de que exista enfermedad a nivel axilar, esta morbilidad es aceptable y se compensa por el beneficio que la paciente obtiene al reducirse la masa tumoral; no obstante, en los casos en los que no existe afectación de los ganglios axilares esta morbilidad es inaceptable. La biopsia del ganglio centinela permite la resección y estudio de un único ganglio axilar con un mínimo porcentaje de falsos negativos, y una morbilidad prácticamente inexistente. El estudio sobre el ganglio centinela es más exacto y meticuloso, constituyendo en la actualidad la técnica quirúrgica de elección en pacientes con tumores menores de 3 cm y sin afectación axilar clínica.Axillary lymph node dissection is the gold standard for detecting axillary disease in breast cancer. Node status remains the most important prognostic factor, and is an important information to make decisions over further treatment. However, both the morbidity associated to this technique, and the fact that, due to mammografic screening, most of the cancer cases nowadays are early cancers that have no axillary metastases, have encouraged investigations towards new surgical approaches. Sentinel node biopsy has been recognized to detect any axillary disease with minimal morbidity and false-negative rates. This technique is routinely indicated for tumors below 3 cm in size, without clinical axillary disease

Normal subgroups and class sizes of elements of prime power order

Solidaridad como problema

El artículo aborda la solidaridad como un vocablo de importante protagonismo cultural en nuestro país, tal que es empleado cotidianamente para resolver gran variedad de situaciones en que es necesario concitar la ayuda, como referente para la evaluación de la calidad moral de una acción, persona o colectivo, y hasta ha llegado a establecerse un mes de la solidaridad. Sin embargo, esta relevancia no ha sido acompañada de una línea correlativa en investigación social. En este contexto, el artículo se propone problematizar la noción de solidaridad, de tal forma de dejar de pensarla como dato, y poder comenzar su reflexión como un problema de estudio en la investigación social nacional

Multiplying a conjugacy class by its inverse in a finite group

Diseño de plan estratégico de mercadeo para la empresa “World Shine” especializada en la producción y comercialización de rótulos luminosos “Eco Shine”, ubicada en el municipio de Jinotepe, departamento de Carazo, durante el II semestre del año 2016

El presente trabajo de seminario incorpora un análisis competitivo de mercado para determinar los factores que influyen en la funcionalidad de la empresa World Shine, este estudio se define como exploratorio descriptivo. Análisis y proyección de la oferta y la demanda, a través de un estudio de mercado, elaborando el perfil del consumidor y proyectando cual sería la demanda real en base al grado de insatisfacción de los consumidores el cual alcanzo un 50% en el rango de muy bajo y solo el 20% muy alto, sin embargo afirmaron que de presentarse una mejor oferta no dudarían en cambiar de proveedor, es decir existe 0% de fidelidad en los clientes. Selección de los proveedores; se optó por la empresa Acrílicos S.A cuyos beneficios incluyen la entrega de materiales directamente en la empresa. Se realizó el diseño de la matriz FODA (Fortalezas, Oportunidades, Debilidades y Amenazas) determinando el plan estratégico a implementar, las estrategias para la mezcla de marketing (4ps). Estableciendo una estrategia a mediano plazo, donde en el 1er año se implementara un plan de introducción para obtener los recursos monetarios para iniciar operaciones, del 2do al 4to año se aplica el plan de acción desarrollado, y en el 5to año considerando el descenso de la demanda debido al ciclo de vida de los productos, aplicando una estrategia de desarrollo de mercados. Se elaboró el plan de acción basado en el cumplimiento de las estrategias y el presupuesto que contemplan el movimiento financiero de la empresa y los métodos de control estratégicos

Landau's theorem on conjugacy classes for normal subgroups

Landau's theorem on conjugacy classes asserts that there are only finitely many finite groups, up to isomorphism, with exactly k conjugacy classes for any positive integer k. We show that, for any positive integers n and s, there exist finitely many finite groups G, up to isomorphism, having a normal subgroup N of index n which contains exactly s non-central G-conjugacy classes. Upper bounds for the orders of G and N are obtained; we use these bounds to classify all finite groups with normal subgroups having a small index and few G-classes. We also study the related problems when we consider only the set of G-classes of prime-power order elements contained in a normal subgroup.The results in this paper are part of the third author's Ph.D. thesis at the Jaume I University of Castellon, who is financially supported by a predoctoral grant of the Jaume I University. Measure of the mining image

AbstractMining is a very important activity for economic and social development, but traditionally research has centered on its technical and operative aspects, instead of studying the image transmitted to the rest of society. This has originated diverse problems, fundamentally due to the information which the population receives via the mass media and which sometimes creates a current of opinion contrary to the development of this extraction activity. In order to resolve the mining communication problems it is necessary to develop a measure of the mining image based on a reliable and valid scale. This is a useful tool in developing a procedure to connect the society with other mining stakeholders and to analyze whether the real image of mining activity is similar to the image transmitted and perceived by society, since the news about the mining industry usually are focused on extreme situations or catastrophes that monopolize the information in the media. In this study a field research based on an attributes scale is developed, with the aim of measuring the mining image. The surveys were carried out in a mining area, where people have direct and real information about the mining industry and its consequences on society, environment and economy
