Combinando Linked Data con servicios geoespaciales
La Web de Linked Data supone un nuevo paradigma que pretende explotar la Web como un espacio global de información. La aplicación de los principios de esta nueva Web a la información geoespacial superará la integración de información tradicional, logrando una articulación semántica de los datos que haga desaparecer los silos de datos presentes en las actuales Infraestructuras de Datos Espaciales.
Ante esta propuesta, en este artículo se describe el trabajo desarrollado en el marco de un caso de uso utilizando una parte de los datos del SIGNA. En este caso de uso se ha llevado a cabo un proceso de generación y publicación de los mencionados datos conforme a los principios de Linked Data y estos se combinan con diversos servicios de la IDEE y CartoCiudad para explotar el componente geoespacial
Diffraction Phenomena in Time-Varying Metal-Based Metasurfaces
This paper presents an analytical framework for the analysis of time-varying metal-based metamaterials.
Specifically, we particularize the study to time-modulated metal-air interfaces embedded between two
different semi-infinite media that are illuminated by monochromatic plane waves of frequency ω0. The
formulation is based on a Floquet-Bloch modal expansion, which takes into account the time periodicity
of the structure (Ts = 2π/ωs) and integral-equation techniques. It allows us to extract the reflection and
transmission coefficients as well as to derive nontrivial features about the dynamic response and dispersion
curves of time-modulated metal-based screens. In addition, the proposed formulation has an associated
analytical equivalent circuit that gives a physical insight into the diffraction phenomenon. Similarities
and differences between space- and time-modulated metamaterials are discussed via the proposed circuit
model. Finally, some analytical results are presented to validate the present framework. Good agreement
is observed with numerical computations provided by a self-implemented finite-difference time-domain
(FDTD) method. Interestingly, the present results suggest that time-modulated metal-based screens can be
used as pulsed sources (when ωs ω0), beam formers (ωs ∼ ω0) to redirect energy in specific regions of

Characterization of VOCs Emitted by Foliage of Grapevine cv. Isabella for Prospecting Innovative Cropping Systems
Volatile organic compounds play an important role in communication within plants as well as with other organisms. In this work we identified the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from the foliage of the grapevine cv. Isabella, a largely known hybrid of Vitis vinifera × Vitis labrusca. Our data show 25 VOCs emitted by cv. Isabella. Different compound classes were found, including alcohols, hydrocarbons, esters, terpenes, ketones, and a green leaf volatile (GLV). The study highlighted differences between volatile profiles for diurnal and nocturnal treatments. The compounds: trans-3-dodecene, 5,5 dibutylnonane, ethyl 2-methyllactate, 2-hexanol, 3-ethyl-2-heptanol, 3-nonanol, and 2-nonanol, have not been previously reported for Vitis vinifera foliage. Notably, eight compounds emitted by cv. Isabella, 1-heptanol, 1-octanol, 2-hexanol, 2-nonanone, β-pinene, camphene, cis-hexenyl acetate, and phenethyl alcohol, are of relevant interest for their role in plant defense. New knowledge on the emission of these compounds in cv. Isabella can help to understand the mechanisms of pathogen tolerance of this genotype and could be an important step in prospecting innovative cropping systems
Recommendations for myeloid-derived suppressor cell nomenclature and characterization standards
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have emerged as major regulators of immune responses in cancer and other pathological conditions. In recent years, ample evidence supports key contributions of MDSC to tumour progression through both immune-mediated mechanisms and those not directly associated with immune suppression. MDSC are the subject of intensive research with >500 papers published in 2015 alone. However, the phenotypic, morphological and functional heterogeneity of these cells generates confusion in investigation and analysis of their roles in inflammatory responses. The purpose of this communication is to suggest characterization standards in the burgeoning field of MDSC research
A Comparison of Perturbed Initial Conditions and Multiphysics Ensembles in a Severe Weather Episode in Spain
Ensembles of numerical model forecasts are of interest to operational early warning forecasters as the spread of the ensemble provides an indication of the uncertainty of the alerts, and the mean value is deemed to outperform the forecasts of the individual models. This paper explores two ensembles on a severe weather episode in Spain, aiming to ascertain the relative usefulness of each one. One ensemble uses sensible choices of physical parameterizations (precipitation microphysics, land surface physics, and cumulus physics) while the other follows a perturbed initial conditions approach. The results show that, depending on the parameterizations, large differences can be expected in terms of storm location, spatial structure of the precipitation field, and rain intensity. It is also found that the spread of the perturbed initial conditions ensemble is smaller than the dispersion due to physical parameterizations. This confirms that in severe weather situations operational forecasts should address moist physics deficiencies to realize the full benefits of the ensemble approach, in addition to optimizing initial conditions. The results also provide insights into differences in simulations arising from ensembles of weather models using several combinations of different physical parameterizations
Neuron-specific gene NSG1 binds to and positively regulates sortilin ectodomain shedding via a metalloproteinasedependent mechanism
Increasing evidence suggests that aberrant regulation of sortilin ectodomain shedding can contribute to amyloid-beta pathology and frontotemporal dementia, although the mechanism by which this occurs has not been elucidated. Here, we probed for novel binding partners of sortilin using multiple and complementary approaches and identified two proteins of the neuron-specific gene (NSG) family, NSG1 and NSG2, that physically interact and colocalize with sortilin. We show both NSG1 and NSG2 induce subcellular redistribution of sortilin to NSG1- and NSG2-enriched compartments. However, using cell surface biotinylation, we found only NSG1 reduced sortilin cell surface expression, which caused significant reductions in uptake of progranulin, a molecular determinant for frontotemporal dementia. In contrast, we demonstrate NSG2 has no effect on sortilin cell surface abundance or progranulin uptake, suggesting specificity for NSG1 in the regulation of sortilin cell surface expression. Using metalloproteinase inhibitors and A disintegrin and metalloproteinase 10 KO cells, we further show that NSG1-dependent reduction of cell surface sortilin occurred via proteolytic processing by A disintegrin and metalloproteinase 10 with a concomitant increase in shedding of sortilin ectodomain to the extracellular space. Surgery and radioembolization of liver tumors
Surgical resection is considered the curative treatment par excellence for patients with primary or
metastatic liver tumors. However, less than 40% of them are candidates for surgery, either due to nonmodifiable factors (comorbidities, age, liver dysfunction. . .), or to the invasion or proximity of the tumor
to the main vascular requirements, the lack of a future liver remnant (FLR) adequate to maintain postoperative liver function, or criteria oftumor size and number. In these lastfactors, hepatic radioembolization
has been shown to play a role as a presurgical tool, either by hypertrophy of the FLR or by reducing tumor
size that manages to reduce tumor staging (term known as downstaging ¨ ¨
). To these is added a third factor,
which is its ability to apply the test oftime, which makes it possible to identify those patients who present
progression of the disease in a short period of time (both locally and at distance), avoiding a unnecessary
surgery. This paper aims to review RE as a tool to facilitate liver surgery, both through the experience of
our center and the available scientific evidence.La resección quirúrgica se considera eltratamiento curativo por excelencia para los pacientes con tumores
hepáticos primarios o metastásicos. Sin embargo, menos del 40% de ellos son candidatos a cirugía, ya
sea por factores no modificables (comorbilidades, edad, disfunción hepática. . .), como por la invasión o
proximidad del tumor a los principales pedículos vasculares, la falta de un futuro remanente hepático
(FRH) adecuado para mantener una función hepática postoperatoria, o criterios de tamano˜ y numero
tumoral. En estos últimos factores, la radioembolización hepática ha mostrado tener un papel como
herramienta prequirúrgica, ya sea mediante la hipertrofia del FRH o mediante la reducción del tamano˜
tumoral que consigue disminuir la estadificación tumoral (término conocido como “downstaging”). A
estos se suma un tercer factor, que es su capacidad de aplicar el test del tiempo, que permite identificar
aquellos pacientes que presenten en un plazo corto de tiempo progresión de la enfermedad (tanto a
nivel local como a distancia), evitándoles una cirugía innecesaria. En este trabajo se pretende hacer una
revisión de la RE como herramienta facilitadora de la cirugía hepática, tanto a través de la experiencia de
nuestro centro como de la evidencia científica disponible
