The Brazilian Interest Rate Equalization System (IRES) subsidizes farmers by providing them with credit at lower than market interest rates. The objective of this research is to evaluate the IRES by comparing its monetary cost with its benefits as measured by Brazilian GDP growth. Estimates are carried out using input-output matrix. The results suggest that each Brazilian real spent by IRES to assist Brazilian family farms increases Brazilian GDP by R1.75andthateachrealspenttoassistcommercialfarmsincreasesGDPbyR 1.75 and that each real spent to assist commercial farms increases GDP by R 3.57. The IRES is a subsidy that generates economic growth greater than its cost to society.IRES subsidy, growth, input-output matrix, Agricultural Finance, Q18, C67, O40, H81,

The European energy performance building regulations, Directive 2002/91/EC - Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) of the European Parliament and Council, require that new buildings present minimum standards of energy efficiency. Accordingly the Portuguese regulations require that new buildings comply with minimum requirements on the energy performance and must have an energy performance certification through witch an energy efficiency label is attributed to the housing. It also require that existing buildings must have an efficiency energy label when submitted to a commercial transaction or to a deep rehabilitation. To achieve this goal the study of energy performance of existing buildings must be done. As many essentials elements to determine the U-factor and other thermal parameters are unknown, Portugal developed a simplified methodology to achieve the thermal performance of existing buildings. The aim of this paper is to present the study of the energy performance of a set of social dwellings that were constructed during the decade of 80, constructed before the former building thermal comfort specifications came into force. During the study the referred methodology was applied and conclusions of the energy efficiency label obtained were put out as the encountered difficulties. The study also compares the results obtained by the simplified methodology and by the detailed methodology that is required by Portuguese building thermal comfort specifications

Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) procedures aim to provide the patient with aesthetical and functional improvements, increasing the bone volume and availability. Currently, procedures to increase the bone ridge are undertaken with the objective of allowing the placement of dental implants and improve their aesthetical appeal. Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) for the vertical augmentation of the alveolar ridge and consequent implant placement will be described in this bibliographical review, as well as the predictability of the technique and its success rates. There are several materials available for the vertical GBR technique, however the membranes of expanded non-resorbable polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE-e) with titanium reinforcement in association with autogenous graft (1:1) and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) currently represent the first choice when a vertical bone augmentation is intended. The GBR for vertical augmentation features good success rates and predictability, however it requires an experienced operator, as it is a demanding technique. This can be performed previously or simultaneously with the placement of implants

    EcoMarathon 2019 Prototype

Over the last 35 years, Shell has organized a student programme focused on road vehicles energy optimisation called Shell Eco¬Marathon. The competition has seen over the years a lot of improvement in design choices which led to new records in energy efficiency. At UBI, a similar story has happened since its first participation in the competition in 2014. In 2019, in its third vehicle iteration, the AERO@UBI03 team won the Circular Economy Award and achieved 612 km/kW h at the main event, the 6th place in the battery electric prototype category. In this work, a full aerodynamic analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics, with the software OpenFOAM, was performed to evaluate the flow, pressure contours, drag and lift using the k-?SST turbulence model and wall functions available in the OpenFOAM software. It was discovered that the vehicle produces a four vortices wake, two generated by the front wheels fairings and the other two by the geometry of the vehicle. It was also noticed that the stagnation point was in a not optimal position as it creates a pressure drop when the flow moves to the underside of the vehicle. The prototype has a SCD of 0.03227 m2 and a SCL of -0.03835 m2 . A few more studies were conducted by adjusting the height of the vehicle as well as the angle of attack. These showed that improvements were possible specially in the fairings design in order to reduce the existent downforce.

Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Engenharia BiomédicaThis dissertation is a response to the most uncomfortable tasks in the medical examiners work, the tasks required to prepare an autopsy report. This is one of their biggest and most frequent limitations. The new technological tools of person-machine interface in the market motivated the realization of this project. This project is developed in Java, and allows a medical examiner to perform an autopsy report without requiring physical contact with the computer. Thus, this work has the following advantages: it does not require that the medical examiner removes his gloves whenever he needs to make an annotation, also, there is no need to transcribe information from paper format to a digital format, furthermore, it makes the process of developing the autopsy report simple having less likelihood of contaminate the material. This application was designed and developed in order to facilitate their use through voice commands, using the Java Speech and gestures detected by Leap Motion. The application operation is very satisfactory and was a source of enthusiasm to the medical examiners that accompanied the project, since this work has created a useful tool for their daily work
