Simulation of Marine Towing Cable Dynamics Using a Finite Elements Method

    Get PDF
A numerical model to study the towing maneuver for floating and submerged bodies has been developed. The proposed model is based on the dynamic study of a catenary line moving between two bodies, one body with imposed motion, and the other free to move. The model improves previous models used to study the behavior of mooring systems based on a finite element method by reducing the noise of the numerical results considering the Rayleigh springs model for the tension of the line. The code was successfully validated using experimental results for experimental data from different authors and experiments found in the literature. Sensitivity analysis on the internal damping coefficient and the number of elements has been included in the present work, showing the importance of the internal damping coefficient. As an example of the application of the developed tool, simulations of towing systems on a real scale were analyzed for different setups. The variation of the loads at the towed body and the position of the body were analyzed for the studied configurations. The reasonable results allow us to say that the proposed model is a useful tool with several applications to towing system design, study or optimizationThe authors are grateful to the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness for funding ACOPLE- Analysis of the dynamic behavior of floating wind platforms for design optimization in deep waters (ENE2017-89716-R), within the National Programme for Research, Development and Innovation Aimed at the Challenges of Society (Call 2017). First principles determination of some static and dynamic properties of the liquid 3d transition metals near melting

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaWe report an ab initio molecular dynamics simulation study of several static and dynamic properties of the liquid 3d transition metals. The calculated static structure factors show qualitative agreement with the available experimental data, and its second peak displays an asymmetric shape which suggests a signi1cant local icosahedral short-range order. The dynamical structure reveals propagating density 2uctuations whose dispersión relation has been evaluated; moreover, its long wavelength limit is compatible with their respective experimental sound velocity. Results are reported for the longitudinal and transverse current spectral functions as well as for the respective dispersion relations. We also analyze the possible appearance of transverse-like low-energy excitations in the calculated dynamic structure factors. Several transport coeWcients have been evaluated and compared with the available experimental data.Junta de Castilla y León (Ref. project VA124G18)Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Project PGC2018-093745-B-I00) and FEDE

The Enhanced-Earned Value Management (E-EVM) Model: A Proposal for the Aerospace Industry

    Get PDF
The framework of this paper is the aerospace industry, which is one of the world’s leading sectors, thus playing a noteworthy role in current society. This makes it especially important to try to optimize the management of the aerospace sector. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to propose the so-called Enhanced-Earned Value Management (hereinafter, E-EVM) model, able to explore the simultaneous evaluation of many projects, from which the management of the project can take advantage. Additionally, this model considers the possibility of forecasting pending tasks, measurable in time units or cost units, until the end of the project. The main contribution of E-EVM methodology is its capacity to detect both delayed and advanced projects by converting times (hours) into monetary units (EUR). Empirically, this enhanced model has been applied to a real case study in the aerospace industry composed of thousands of subprojects and the results provide the project manager with valuable information to make decisions in a short term. Through computer graphic representation techniques, the visualization of project deployment can be improved. Finally, the E-EVM model can be used even in big projects where a very large volume of information must be simultaneously treated and also, it will be suitable to apply pattern recognition concerning the project performance

The paradigm of entrepreneurship goes beyond mere intervention in the labor market: it also implies a policy of production of new subjects. The aim of this article is to explore the current political mutation in the ways of conceptualizing justice at work. To this end, we have analyzed the socio-labour ethics that promote entrepreneurship policies, the ethics of entrepreneur-ability, through the study of the Youth Guarantee program. From the discourse analysis of the main normative and political texts produced at European and national level of this program and its entrepreneurial dimension, three of the pillars that articulate these empreabilidad ethics have been identified: the inexorable property of oneself; the normative engineering of the self and the articulation of the conflict within the subject. This work concludes stating the implications of this semantic and political transformation (from employment to employment) in the ways of thinking and questioning ourselves as a society

Sustainability in the Aerospace Sector, a Transition to Clean Energy: The E2-EVM Valuation Model

    Get PDF
Civil aviation is one of biggest industrial contributors to CO2 emissions worldwide. One of the most urgent problems of this sector is providing new technologies to continue operating in a more sustainable environment through a transition to clean energy. The Earned Value Management (EVM) model, as a traditional project management tool, is continuously being revised with new releases and extensions (e.g., ESM, EDM, QEVM, E-EVM, and ZEVM), but to date none of them has applied an expert judgment criterion to be able to modify and anticipate the final result of the project. In such a way, this paper introduces a novel approach to the topic with the so-called Enhanced and Efficient Earned Value Management (denoted E2-EVM) model by including this new capability through the real options methodology, thus helping to support the sustainability of the aerospace sector. This research focuses on three main goals: the description of recent green initiatives in the aerospace sector by checking its contribution to reaching the well-known Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the development of a new version of the EVM model by applying the real options methodology, and, finally, the financial contribution to the aerospace industry by applying these initiatives and methodologies

[EN] A total of 48 lactating ewes, belonging to 2 different Mediterranean breeds Guirra (rustic native breed) and Manchega (mixed aptitude breed) were used to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of whole citrus fruits (WCF) in their rations. Four iso-energetic and iso-protein total mixed rations were formulated containing fresh WCF at 0, 10, 20 and 30% replacing dry-rolled barley and pelleted beet pulp on a DM basis. The milk yield and composition were obtained once a week at morning and afternoon milking. Total milk yield values observed for 30% WCF group were 12% higher than for the others. Also, a reduction of the milk fat content with the inclusion of WCF was observed, being 8.2, 7.95, 7.69 and 7.1% for 0, 10, 20 and 30% WCF groups (P<0.05). Milk protein content was maximum for ewes on 10% WFC ration (6.4%) and minimum for 30% WCF group (6.0%; P<0.05), due to the lower milk casein content of 30% WCF group (-0.3% respect to 0 and 10% WCF groups; P<0.05), while soluble protein content was similar for all the groups (mean: 1.17%). Throughout the experimental period, a reduction of 6% fat corrected milk (6%FCM) production was observed with all the rations (-35 ml per week), but it was steeper for 20 and 30% WCF groups than for the other 2 groups. In conclusion, WCF could contribute to diminishing dependence of high-milking ewes on grains without affecting the milk output, however further studies related to WCF effect on body condition and on the capacity of lactating animals to mobilize body reserves should be made. This study was subsidized by the Consejeria de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación of the Regional Government of Valencia, and by the project INIA CAL03-089. 6.Piquer Querol, O.; Rodríguez Garcia, M.; Blas Ferrer, E.; Cerisuelo, A.; Fernández Martínez, CJ.; Pascual Amorós, JJ.
