Television has shown its strengths in the formation of the present media environment, which has been built around the new paradigm of the global communication: the Internet. The best evidence of this assertion is the growing audience share of the different TV offerings. All this has been made possible by the technological transformation and the ability of TV to adapt itself to the multi-device offer, which is still in a development phase, and the exploitation of strengths in communicating through images. The local context has been the best laboratory for testing the potential of television as the axis of the close visual communication. The paper presents the case study of Television de Galicia, the public regional channel, through a descriptive- exploratory methodology to conclude the continuing importance of the proximity and strategic value of social connection this channel continues to play a role key in nearby Galicia audiovisual offer

Diferentes perspectivas alimentan la doble vía de las competencias y habilidades en los perfiles del actual periodista tecnólogo que los profesionales perciben que demanda el ecosistema actuaThe paper aims at understanding the intersections between technology and the professional practices in some of the new trends in journalism that are using the new tools: multimedia journalism, immersive journalism and data journalism. The great dilemma facing journalism when training new professionals -especially the youngest- is not anymore the training in new technologies anymore. The main concern lies in taking advantage of their skills to create a new computational model while keeping the essence of journalism. There is a twofold objective: answering questions about which tools are being used to produce pieces of news, and which kind of knowledge is needed in the present century. Based on the review of reports from professional organizations and institutes, it was developed an exploratory research to 25 European and American journalists was developed. We have selected three cases of study. They allowed us to conclude that the technology matrix is going to remain and that change and digital process is not turning back and demands to evolve and adapt to new dynamics of work in multidisciplinary teams where the debate between journalists and technologists must be ongoing. Different approaches nourish the double way of skills and competences in the profiles of the current technological journalist, which professionals perceive as a demand in the present ecosyste

News sharing using self-destructive content in digital native media from an international perspective

    Get PDF
Native digital media use of self-destructive content for the dissemination of news is investigated. This new format, characterized by its ephemerality, has become fashionable within the most successful social networks. Spanish media outlets are analysed and compared with European and American ones. The results indicate that native cybermedia are disseminating content through this format, increasing audience engagement, especially within the youth. Interestingly, these media focus intently on Instagram while neglecting Facebook and Youtube. Models of transmedia, like swiping up, crossmedia and cross-promotion narratives are valued, and made apparent is the usefulness of the format to improve the general public’s participation, and in the sending of user generated content. This work delves into an under-researched field, offering a valuable perspective for communication companies to influence the daily spaces of social interaction by offering bite size portions of information."Native digital cybermedia in Spain: narrative formats and mobile strategy" (Reference RTI2018-093346-B-C33) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).S

Digital journalism is seeking to redefine its role in the communicative ecosystem in the network society of the third decade of the 21st century. This has been made through innovation processes that entail renewed narratives and formats, greater user involvement and advanced dissemination strategies. Thousands of digital native media, most of which have come to prominence in last ten years, have undertaken this process of adaptation and reinvention. It has happened during a period of intense media coverage and constant technological changes. Based on the most recent research in the journalistic field, and on an empirical study of the most innovative digital native media within reach from an international perspective (n = 26; 20 digital native media + 6 traditional newspapers), this text reflects on current trends and the likely consequences of the changes underway within journalism, the journalistic profession and research in the journalistic field. The results are structured according to the three assessed areas: mobile narratives, diffusion strategies and user involvement. This work was supported by Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Spain), and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) [RTI2018-093346-B-C33. Trans-Stilbenes in Commercial Grape Juices: Quantification Using HPLC Approaches

    Get PDF
Trans-stilbenes belong to the group of polyphenolic phytoalexins, and occur in many plant foods. These compounds have received great attention by researchers due to their well-known beneficial health effects. In the present study a chromatographic method that comprises the use of variable wavelength (VWD) and fluorescence (FLD) detectors in series for the analysis of trans-stilbenes is presented. The relation of peak-area obtained with both detectors is proposed as an alternative and complementary approach for the rapid identification of these phenolic compounds. The proposed method was applied to determine trans-stilbenes in commercial fruit juices. Trans-piceid was the most common trans-stilbene found in the samples analyzed. The method was validated in terms of linearity, sensitivity and repeatability. Appropriate sensitivity and good linearity (r2 > 0.9991) were achieved. This work was financed under grant GRC2014/012 for consolidating and structuring of competitive research units do Galician University System, SpainS

Evaluating the pharmacological response in fluorescence microscopy images: The Δm algorithm

    Get PDF
Current drug discovery procedures require fast and effective quantification of the pharmacological response evoked in living cells by agonist compounds. In the case of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), the efficacy of a particular drug to initiate the endocytosis process is related to the formation of endocytic vesicles or endosomes and their subsequent internalisation within intracellular compartments that can be observed with high spatial and temporal resolution by fluorescence microscopy techniques. Recently, an algorithm has been proposed to evaluate the pharmacological response by estimating the number of endosomes per cell on time series of images. However, the algorithm was limited by the dependence on some manually set parameters and in some cases the quality of the image does not allow a reliable detection of the endosomes. Here we propose a simple, fast and automated image analysis method?the ?m algorithm- to quantify a pharmacological response with data obtained from fluorescence microscopy experiments. This algorithm does not require individual object detection and computes the relative increment of the third order moment in fluorescence microscopy images after filtering with the Laplacian of Gaussian function. It was tested on simulations demonstrating its ability to discriminate different experimental situations according to the number and the fluorescence signal intensity of the simulated endosomes. Finally and in order to validate this methodology with real data, the algorithm was applied to several time-course experiments based on the endocytosis of the mu opioid receptor (MOP) initiated by different agonist compounds. Each drug displayed a different ?m sigmoid time-response curve and statistically significant differences were observed among drugs in terms of efficacy and kinetic parameters

A case study on the implementation of an early sequential bilingual methodology on three- to five-year-old children at a public early childhood development center in the city of Pereira

Algunas propuestas prácticas [Journalism that seeks a transition from communicating only “for” to communicating “with”. Some practical proposals]

The recovery of local journalism, especially from the hand of digital native initiatives of proximity, many of them hyperlocal, shows us a way to rethink journalism: the necessary combination of communicating "for", the objective with which a good part of the legacy media and some native media have been born, and communicating "with" without renouncing the principles and elements of journalism. It is not easy, because the multiple influences of the local actors involved in the projects, although it is a virtuous circle of relationships that improves results, also implies threats to the independence of the media –the ability to make decisions with autonomy and with the sole guiding principle of compliance with the principles acquired by the media of service to the community– and can become, in certain contexts, a vicious circle. Without downplaying the risks, several investigations of the digital journalism team of the Novos Medios research group have shown that some experiences show that it is possible to explore ways of greater involvement of audiences and walk with them in common objectives that lead to better information and higher quality journalism. The commitment to this path implies a review of information strategies and a practical demonstration of the ability to involve the communities for which the information is provided in the path of participation and co-creation of initiatives and content for these media

Dietary Intake and Associated Factors in Long-Term Care Homes in Southeast Spain

    Get PDF
Diet is a key modifiable factor in the management of malnutrition and age-related diseases such as sarcopenia, an important issue in long-term care homes. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the dietary intake of residents, define dietary patterns, and analyze their association with sex, diet texture, nutritional status, and the presence of sarcopenia. Intake was assessed by the precise weighing method, dietary patterns were defined a posteriori by cluster analysis, and nutritional status and sarcopenia were evaluated by applying the MNA-SF test and EWGSOP algorithm, respectively. A regular diet was consumed by 63% of participants; 56% were at risk of malnutrition and 63% were diagnosed with sarcopenia. Intake of potassium, magnesium, zinc, iodine, vitamin D, E, folic acid, and fiber was low in >80% of participants. Protein intake was <1 g/kg/day in 56% of participants and <25 g/meal in 100%. Two dietary patterns were identified, but neither fully met recommendations. The risk of a poorer diet was higher in females and residents with sarcopenia and was lower in those consuming regular diets. In conclusion, action is required to improve the inadequate nutritional intake of long-term care residents
