Experimental study of MIMO-OFDM transmissions at 94 GHz in indoor environments

Millimeter wave (mm-wave) frequencies have been proposed to achieve high capacity in 5G communications. Although meaningful research on the channel characteristics has been performed in the 28, 38and 60 GHz bands ─in both indoor and short-range scenarios─,only a small number of trials (experiments) have been carried out in other mm-wave bands. The objective of this work is to study the viability and evaluate the performance of the 94 GHz frequency band for MIMO-OFDM transmission in an indoor environment. Crisis de la modernidad y derivas del humanismo en la postmodernidad

Pese a que podamos pensar que nos situamos ante un conflicto resuelto, el debate entre modernidad y postmodernidad se mantiene en la actualidad. La posibilidad de la presencia del ideario moderno convive con los discursos postmodernos que tratan de aprovechar el desarraigo del hombre para uniformar y redirigir sus pasos. En medio de esta confrontación, en la presente comunicación nos centramos en el lugar que ocupa el hombre así como en la vigencia del humanismo. A partir de las ideas de Martin Heidegger, Jean Paul Sartre, José Ortega y Gasset y Rüdiger Safranski nos adentraremos en el análisis de este concepto en las derivas de la cultura postmoderna que, pese a sus connotaciones nihilistas, mantiene, en parte, las argucias de la metafísica tradicional.Despite that we can think that we find ourselves before a resolved conflict, the debate between modernity and Postmodernity is currently maintained. The possibility of the presence of the modern ideology coexists with postmodern discourses which seek to take advantage of the uprooting of man to standardize and redirecting his steps. In the present communication we have the focus in the place of the man as well as the validity of humanism. From the ideas of Martin Heidegger, Jean Paul Sartre, José Ortega y Gasset and Rüdiger Safranski we go into the analysis of this concept in the drifts of postmodern culture that, despite its nihilistic connotations, maintained, in part, the quibbles of traditio-nal metaphysics

La construcción de la identidad desde su deconstrucción originaria : Heidegger y el humanismo

En la presente comunicación trataremos de abordar la construcción de la identidad moderna desde una perspectiva filosófica. A partir del estudio de la obra de Heidegger Carta sobre el humanismo, ahondaremos en el concepto de humanismo tras la II Guerra Mundial, lo cual supone los cimientos sobre los que se sustenta nuestra tesis principal: para llegar a comprender las diferentes identidades de género es necesario, en primer lugar, atender al carácter más originario del hombre: la cuestión del ser. Lejos de situarnos en quimeras metafísicas, a partir del estudio del ser nos es posible atisbar la importancia de un mundo cuyas definiciones son abiertas, así como el proyecto del ser humano como existente. Desde esta perspectiva incidimos en la importancia del pensamiento originario, base de la comprensión de las esferas culturales escindidas en la modernidad. A partir de entonces, y siempre que previamente atendamos a ese pensar esencial, podremos hablar de identidades en el contexto del constructo lógico del lenguaje. En la presente comunicación intentamos, por tanto, situarnos en un plano previo a las comprensiones antropológicas y escindidas del ser humano, para así atisbar, posteriormente, las escisiones que en él se producen

El papel de la actividad física, el sedentarismo y la condición física en la salud mental y la sustancia blanca en niños y adolescentes

Childhood and adolescence are periods of dynamic behavioral, cognitive and emotional development that can increase vulnerability to mental disorders. Obesity and related issues represent important public health concerns in terms of prevalence, incidence and economic burden. In addition, nearly 75% of young people have insufficient levels of physical activity in developed countries. In tandem with this fact, most of the young people are “digital natives”, which means that they have grown up surrounded by digital information and entertainment on screens. All these facts together prove that a major change in the lifestyle of young people is taking place in the last decades, which in turn might have an effect on their mental and brain health. In this context, white matter, which is important for efficient transmission of information between brain areas, has been considered one of the brain features susceptible of being modified by physical activity and other related factors (i.e., sedentary behavior and physical fitness) in young people, yet the body of evidence is still in its infancy, and further studies are needed to shed light on the many questions that remain unanswered. Chumy Chúmez, a member of El Club de la Sonrisa

Chumy Chúmez, seudónimo de José María González Castrillo, publicó en 1956 El manzano de tres patas y, dos años después, Mi tío Gustavo que en gloria esté. Ambas dentro de la colección de libros de humor El Club de la Sonrisa, de la editorial Taurus. Se trata de dos novelas singulares en la trayectoria del que fue conocido, sobre todo, por su labor como humorista gráfico. Por un lado, recogen ya todo el universo anímico del artista, por otro, hasta cierto límite, aún se adscriben en la línea directa que procede del humor del Otro 27. Analizaremos cada obra de forma independiente y en relación con el humor literario de la década de los cincuenta. De este examen extraeremos varias conclusiones, entre ellas la calidad literaria de Chumy Chúmez, parangonable a la de autores tan notables como Miguel Mihura o Rafael AzconaChumy Chúmez, pseudonym of José María González Castrillo, published in 1956 El manzano de tres patas and two years later, Mi tío Gustavo que en gloria esté. Both works included in the collection of humour books, El Club de la Sonrisa (The Smile Club), by the publishing house Taurus. This is about two unique works in the career of an author who was known, especially, for his task as a cartoonist. On the one hand, they cover this artist’s entire universe of emotions, on the other hand, to some extent, they can be considered part of those belonging to the humour of the Spanish literary generation El Otro 27. Every work will be analysed independently and in connection with the 50’s literary humour. Several conclusions will be drawn from this examination, such as the literary quality of Chumy Chúmez, comparable to other writers like Miguel Mihura or Rafael Azcon

Implicaciones humanitarias de la contratación de empresas militares privadas (PMC) por parte de los Estados. Estudio de caso; Estados Unidos y Blackwater en Irak (2003-2007)

La presente investigación tiene como finalidad analizar las implicaciones humanitarias de la participación de las Compañías Militares Privadas (PMC) contratadas por los Estados en escenarios de conflicto, a partir del caso de Blackwater y Estados Unidos en Irak (2003-2007), con el fin de mostrar a través de algunos hechos específicos como el acaecido en la plaza Al Nisour los vacíos existentes en la regulación de sus actividades. Frente a estos hechos se muestra como la Comunidad Internacional ha tratado de avanzar en la creación de un régimen internacional que las controle, sin embargo, como se evidencia a lo largo de este escrito la falta de compromiso por parte de los Estados ha hecho que esta tarea se vea obstaculizada y por lo tanto la actuación de estas compañías se encuentra aún en una zona jurídica gris.This investigation aims to analyze Private Military Companies’ participation in conflict sceneries, using the specific case of Blackwater in Irak hired by the United States (2003-2007). Achieving the goal of trying to explain the blank spaces in current law regulations trough some incidents such as the one developed in Al Nisour square. According to this, the article also reflects the efforts made by the international community and the lack of States solid participation, turning this into a difficult to solve situation that carries many grey jurisdiction areas.Universidad del Rosari

La bibliofarmacia de Kate Chopin o la lectura como intoxicación

One of the most important yet also most neglected sets of images in Kate Chopin¿s The Awakening (1899) is that of intoxication and poisoning. In the first half of this essay I trace and discuss all the noteworthy occurrences in the novel of such words as ¿narcotic¿, ¿intoxicant¿, ¿sting¿, ¿chloroform¿, ¿venom¿, and even ¿drug [store]¿, whose main referents in the plot are the reading of romantic novels and letters, listening to Frédéric Chopin¿s music, out-of-wedlock eroticism, and the solitary contact with sublime forces such as the ocean. In the narrative, the main characters often approach their romantic experiences in either an allopathic or a homeopathic manner. In the second half of the essay I articulate a prophylactic economy of romantic experiences and emotions. To this end I resort to the ideas on the alternately healing and damaging effects of literature put forth by Kenneth Burke and Jorge Larrosa. I will then extrapolate one such economy from the situation of the characters in The Awakening to that of the undergraduate students in Spain who discover a novel with a self-destructive protagonist for the first time in an American literature course.Uno de los principales campos semánticos empleados en The Awakening (1899), de Kate Chopin, es el de la intoxicación y el envenenamiento, que hasta ahora apenas ha sido mencionado. En la primera parte del presente ensayo señalo y comento todas las apariciones significativas en la novela de palabras como ¿narcotic¿, ¿intoxicant¿, ¿sting¿, ¿chloroform¿, ¿venom¿, e incluso ¿drug [store]¿, cuyos referentes en la trama son la lectura de novelas y cartas románticas, el disfrute de la música de Frédéric Chopin, el erotismo extramatrimonial y el contacto solitario con fuerzas sublimes como el océano. En esta narración, los distintos personajes encaran sus experiencias románticas unas veces de manera alopática y otras de manera homeopática. En la segunda parte del ensayo presento una economía profiláctica de las experiencias y emociones románticas. Con este fin recurro a las ideas de Kenneth Burke y Jorge Larrosa sobre los efectos alternativamente curativos y dañinos que la literatura puede tener sobre el lector. Finalmente, extrapolaré dicha economía a la situación lectora del alumnado universitario que se encuentra por vez primera, en la clase de literatura norteamericana, con una novela de protagonista autodestructivo

Paradoxical time and providential history in Shakespeare and Bacon

Few of Shakespeare's tragic characters have had so many detractors as Richard II, who has been variously dismissed as a capricious tyrant, a self-absorbed poet, and a Protean dramatic force whose unpredictable actions at times threaten the structural integrity of the play. This perception has in turn influenced the interpretation of Bolingbroke as a competent antagonist who brings much-needed order to the chaotic universe of the first two acts of Richard II. This essay sides with the minority of defenders of Richard-the character as the central intelligence who exerts the greatest control over the dramatic events as they are represented upon the stage and on the page. In discussing Richard's recourse to constructions of human history imported from providentialist historiography I make ample use of Francis Bacon's own self-representations as the abused Messiah of experimental philosophy
