This text aims to present the life and the trajectory of Luiza Mahin, black woman, mother, former slave and activist, a name still unknown to the general public, although there is research in various fi elds of knowledge that emphasize her actions. This name is closely linked to that of Luiz Gama (1830-1882), her son, to the slave uprisings and libertarian rebellions that took place in the 19th century in the city of Salvador-BA. We used as a methodological path the consultation of historiographical writings andliterary and academic sources that deal with themes related to the life and revolutionary performance of Luiza Mahin and the analysis of the autobiographical letter of Luiz Gamaand his poem Minha Mãe. These documents supported the construction of the figure of Luiza Mahin – mythical or not, because one can not attest to the veracity of her existence. In this text we highlight aspects of her personality, her African origins, her audacious trajectory as a former slave and an excellent activist and defender of the cause of theblack people, and the mythification processes based on the literature concerning the fact. Finally, her representation in Brazilian black feminism.

Studies have revealed the relationship between exposure to environmental compounds and the development of liver damage. Objective: to identify evidence of an association between human exposure to endocrine disruptors and the occurrence of the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Method: integrative literature review, searches were performed in the electronic databases Cochrane, PubMed, LILACS, and Science Direct. Primary human studies were included, which addressed the outcome of interest, without time restriction, published in English, Portuguese or Spanish. Results: of 209 identified articles, 12 were selected, all in English, 50% of which were cross-sectional studies, 33% of cohort studies and 16% of control cases. The measurement of exposure to endocrine disruptors occurred throughthe analysis of urine, blood or soil samples. Exposure to Bisphenol A and Trialometanos was associated with the occurrence of hepatic fat accumulation, especially in obese, male and Hispanic individuals. Conclusion: the findings of this review show the association between exposure to endocrine disruptors and the occurrence of liver damage, indicating the need to develop strategies to avoid exposure, especially in patients at higher risk

Is painless synovitis different from painful synovitis? A controlled, ultrasound, radiographic, clinical trial

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: This study compares the clinical, ultrasonography, radiography, and laboratory outcomes of painless and painful chronic synovitis in patients with established rheumatoid arthritis. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 60 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and synovitis in the metacarpophalangeal joints; 30 of the patients did not experience pain, and 30 had experienced pain for at least 6 months prior to the study. The radiocarpal, distal radioulnar, and metacarpophalangeal joints were evaluated using the ultrasound gray scale, power Doppler, and radiography. Past and present clinical and laboratory findings were also evaluated. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups for most of the outcomes. The group with pain scored worse on the disease activity indices (e.g., DAS 28 and SDAI), function questionnaires (HAQ and Cochin), and pinch strength test. A logistic regression analysis revealed that the use of an immunobiological agent was associated with a 3-fold greater chance of belonging to the group that experienced pain. The painless group had worse erosion scores in the second and fifth metacarpophalangeal with odd ratios (ORs) of 6.5 and 3.5, respectively. The painless group had more cartilage with grade 4 damage in the third metacarpophalangeal. CONCLUSIONS: The rheumatoid arthritis patients with both painless and painful synovitis exhibited similar disease histories and radiographic and ultrasound findings. However, the ultrasonography evaluation revealed worse scores in the second and fifth metacarpophalangeal of the synovitis patients who did not experience pain.Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao PauloUNIFESP communityHospital do Servidor Publico Estadual (IAMSPE)Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Escola Paulista de Medicina Disciplina de ReumatologiaUniversidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Escola Paulista de Medicina Departamento de Diagnostico por ImagemUNIFESP, EPM, Disciplina de ReumatologiaUNIFESP, EPM, Depto. de Diagnostico por ImagemFAPESP - 2012/04867-6SciEL

The present article searches to better un-derstand in which way the term cultural me-diation has been working in the Museology field. For this it was necessary to make a sur-vey of the different ways of the cultural me-diation finding on the literature of the field starting from magazine articles classified A1 to B3 found on the Qualis platform of Capes, in a 10-year cut (2007-2017). We analyzed 63 articles on the subject, of which only four attend with cultural mediation experiences from a horizontal perspective, which are presented and discussed.O presente artigo busca melhor compreender de que maneira o termo mediação cultural vem sendo trabalhado dentro do campo da Museologia. &nbsp

Herbicide application on Genetically Modified Maize influences bee visitation

    Get PDF
Brazil is one of the world’s largest producers of maize (Zea mays L.). Cry proteins derived from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) have been widely used in transgenic maize due to their toxicity and specificity against insects that damage crops. In addition, these plants have been stacked with different herbicide tolerance genes. Non-target insects end up being exposed to Bt proteins and herbicide applications. There is little information on the effects of Bt transgenics and their cultural practices on the behavior of pollinators in genetically modified crops. The aim of this research was to verify the impact of genotypes of genetically modified maize, Herculex®, PowerCore®, and the conventional isohybrid, pulverized or not with herbicides (atrazine, glufosinate-ammonium and nicosulfuron) in bee populations. In order to evaluate the presence of insects, a zig-zag tour was carried out throughout the experimental field, ascertained from visual analysis and direct counting of six plants per plot (the dimensions of the plots were 2.5 x 10 m with five maize lines spaced 0.50 m between rows and 0.36 m between plants) randomly, 18 days after spraying herbicides in the area. Apis mellifera (L.) (Hymenoptera: Apidae), Tetragonisca angustula (L.) (Hymenoptera: Apidae) and Trigona spinipes (F.) (Hymenoptera: Apidae) were the pollinator species identified in the crop. It was observed that the incidence of pollinator insects varied according to cultivars and herbicides tested; however, the PowerCore® genotype experienced more visitation of pollinating bees independently of the herbicide treatments.

This article aims to identify the perception of actors (tourists, public and private managers) of Avenue Beira-Mar in Fortaleza-CE regarding the management of tourism practiced in this region and on the requalification and infrastructure actions of Av. Beira-Mar is sustainable or not. The methodology used was a qualitative analysis and non-probabilistic, intentional and convenience sampling, in addition to a literature review of the topics addressed. The main authors addressed in this study were Coriolano, Leitão and Vasconcelos (2008); Medeiros and Moraes (2013); and Paiva (2014). Data collection was carried out by applying questionnaires (Google Forms) through social media (TripAdvisor, WhatsApp and Instagram) to 23 tourists and 11 public and private managers regarding Av. Sea shore. The results obtained concluded that the perception of agents related to tourist activities developed in the researched place walks in parallel between sustainable and unsustainable tourism. Therefore, the sustainability present in Avenue Beira-Mar is incipient and punctual, the characteristic activities of tourism contribute much more to economic and social issues than cultural and environmental issues. Furthermore, they cause disorderly and excluding growth in the region, and still far from the necessary promotion of local and tourist sustainability.
