Integration of Network Performance Monitoring Data at FTS3

Project Specification: The main goal of this project is to optimize the tcp buffer size to make more efficient the file transfers with FTS3. The library that has been implemented provides a way to calculate this providing a source and a destination. This way, whoever is transferring the files does not have to know anything about the logic of how calculate it. In this project, I have done a library to make easy the access to PerfSONAR’s information between two hosts, calculating the optimized tcp buffer size and thereby to making more efficient the transfer of files. As part of my work, I have also tested the library to check if it actually improved the transfer throughput with tools as GridFTP and Globus

The Final Degree Project “Development of an Aeronautical Certification Process Focused on Avionics Equipment” aims to introduce to the reader about the current aviation certification framework. Even though both, military and civil domains are tackled, a certification process for avionics equipment is developed under the European civil aviation regulations in force. Using the Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) as an example, the process for application of its certification, together with the deliverables that must be issued to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Agency’s internal application evaluation process are studied.Universidad de Sevilla. León Felipe y el valor del olvido. Conmemoración del 50º Aniversario de su fallecimiento

León Felipe ha sido un poeta infravalorado en España durante toda su vida, incluso una vez ya fallecido No muchos han sido los actos conmemorativos y homenajes los que se le han hecho. Por ello nuestra intención con este reportaje ha sido que las palabras sean un camino a seguir donde encontrar los diferentes aspectos que le hacían único. La causa, y a la vez percha de actualidad que nos ha motivado, ha sido el 50º aniversario de su muerte, que se conmemora este año, concretamente en el mes de septiembre. Toda la investigación previa a este proyecto y lo que nos hemos encontrado a cada paso ha sido clave para la conformación de la idea principal que ha dado forma al relato final. El lector podrá conocer y entender no sólo quién fue esta figura tan ignorada, si no el porqué de su desconocimiento general. Todo esto será posible conociendo todas sus etapas vitales y por qué le llevaron cada una de ellas a conformar su personalidad y su poesía. Repasamos desde sus etapas más tempranas, pasando por lo que más conforma su personalidad real contado por sus más allegados, sus años como profesor en las mejores universidades de Estados Unidos y sus años en México como tantos exiliados que huyeron de España en la guerra civil española. En este trabajo se expresa la labor que precede al reportaje, los pros y contras que hemos encontrado para conseguir la información que hemos utilizado, una descripción de las fuentes empleadas y que han sido fundamentales para conformar el discurso y darle valor testimonial. Se describe el género periodístico que ha sido el vehículo de la información: el reportaje, y se detallan los objetivos que se han querido conseguir además de la justificación del tema que hemos elegido. El cuento como recurso didáctico: la princesa y el enano, una propuesta para el aula

Propuesta de aulaEl cuento como texto realiza varias funciones, sirve de muestra y estímulo, pero además de entretener, educa, despierta la imaginación y es un pretexto idóneo para construir lengua y conocer aspectos culturales. La propuesta que aquí se presenta pretende recoger ideas que ayudarán al docente en su labor de enseñanza. Teaching and learning of probability

In this paper, we develop a personal synthesis of the most outstanding research on the teaching and learning of probability in the past years. We conducted a systematic search to examine publications on this topic in mathematics education, statistics education, education, and psychology journals. This exploration was complemented by additional studies published in conference proceedings or books. We classified these papers to highlight the main recent research tendencies in the field, according to the theme studied and considering the research objectives. Epistemological analyses suggest that informal inference based on simulation diminishes the topic abstraction but reduces probability to its frequentist view. Topics receiving particular attention include children’s probabilistic knowledge, the effect of visualizations on solving conditional probability problems, teachers’ education and probability modelling. In the final section, we recommend relevant points in which more investigation is needed to complete our knowledge about teaching and learning. In vitro Activity of Pentamidine Alone and in Combination With Aminoglycosides, Tigecycline, Rifampicin, and Doripenem Against Clinical Strains of Carbapenemase-Producing and/or Colistin-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae

Enterobacteriaceae cause different types of community- and hospital-acquired infections. Moreover, the spread of multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae is a public health problem and the World Health Organization pointed them among the pathogens in which the search of new antibiotics is critical. The objective of this study was to analyze the in vitro activity of pentamidine alone and in combination with gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, tigecycline, rifampicin, or doripenem against eight clinical strains of carbapenemase-producing and/or colistin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae: five carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, one carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli, and two colistin-resistant Enterobacter cloacae. MIC and MBC were determined following standard protocols. MIC results were interpreted for all the antibiotics according to the EUCAST breakpoints but for rifampicin in which the French FSM breakpoint was used. Bactericidal and synergistic activity of pentamidine alone and in combination with antibiotics at concentrations of 1xMIC was measured by time-kill curves. For one selected strain, K. pneumoniae OXA-48/CTX-M-15 time-kill curves were performed also at 1/2xMIC of pentamidine. All studies were performed in triplicate. Pentamidine MIC range was 200-800 μg/mL. The 50, 12.5, 62.5, 87.5, and 62.5% of the strains were susceptible to gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, tigecycline, and doripenem, respectively. Only the two E. cloacae strains were susceptible to rifampicin. Pentamidine alone at 1xMIC showed bactericidal activity against all strains, except for the E. cloacae 32 strain. The bactericidal activity of pentamidine alone was also observed in combination. The combinations of pentamidine were synergistic against E. cloacae 32 with amikacin and tobramycin at 24 h and with tigecycline at 8 h. Pentamidine plus rifampicin was the combination that showed synergistic activity against more strains (five out of eight). Pentamidine plus doripenem did not show synergy against any strain. At 1/2xMIC, pentamidine was synergistic with all the studied combinations against the K. pneumoniae OXA-48/CTX-M-15 strain. In summary, pentamidine alone and in combination shows in vitro activity against carbapenemase-producing and/or colistin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. Preparation and Application of a Methodology to Obtain a Synthetic Opinion Indicator to Analyse the Context Conditions for the Development of the ICT Sector in Andalusia

La Junta de Andalucía ha puesto en marcha la “Estrategia de Impulso del sector TIC Andalucía 2020” cuyo objetivo es fomentar el fortalecimiento del sector TIC en la región. Vinculados a los objetivos de dicha estrategia se han definido 15 indicadores, que deben servir para evaluar su impacto. Entre los indicadores definidos, el denominado “Indicador Sintético de Condiciones de Contexto de Desarrollo del Sector TIC” está orientado a medir el grado de contribución de la Estrategia a la mejora de las condiciones del entorno de negocios en el que desarrollan su actividad las empresas del sector TIC andaluz. Sin embargo, la Estrategia TIC2020 no recoge el método a seguir para la obtención del Indicador. Así, el objetivo de nuestro trabajo descrito ha sido definir y aplicar una metodología para su cálculo. Para ello, se ha definido un índice sintético basado en la agregación simple con pesos iguales, con una metodología basada en la del índice TANKAN japonés. Como resultado de todo ello se ha obtenido el Índice Sintético para el año 2017, con un valor de 9,81, así como un método de trabajo que debe servir de base para la obtención del Índice en el período de vigencia de la Estrategia.The Andalusian regional government approved on May 16th 2017 the "Strategy to Promote the ICT sector Andalucía 2020”. Linked to the objectives of the TIC2020 strategy, 15 indicators have been defined, which should serve as a basis for evaluating the impact of the Strategy. Among the defined indicators, the so-called "Synthetic Indicator of Conditions of Context of Development of the ICT Sector" is aimed at measuring the contribution of the Strategy to improving the conditions of the business environment for the Andalusian ICT sector. However, the TIC2020 Strategy does not include the method to be followed to obtain this Indicator. Thus, the objective of our research has been to define and apply a methodology for calculating the indicator. For this, a synthetic index based on simple aggregation with equal weights has been defined, for which a methodology based on the Japanese TANKAN index has been designed. As a result of all this, the Synthetic Index has been obtained for the year 2017, with a value of 9.81, as well as a work method that should serve as the basis for obtaining the index during the Strategy period

Finite sample performance of small versus large scale dynamic factor models

Incluye bibliografíaWe examine the finite-sample performance of small versus large scale dynamic factor models. Our Monte Carlo analysis reveals that small scale factor models out-perform large scale models in factor estimation and forecasting for high levels of cross-correlation across the idiosyncratic errors of series belonging to the same category, for oversampled categories and, especially, for high persistence in either the common factor series or the idiosyncratic errors. Using a panel of 147 US economic indicators, which are classified into 13 economic categories, we show that a small scale dynamic factor model that uses one representative indicator of each category yields satisfactory or even better forecasting results than a large scale dynamic factor model that uses all the economic indicatorsExaminamos las propiedades en pequeña muestra de modelos dinámicos factoriales de pequeña escala frente a modelos de dimensiones grandes.
