The aim of this paper is to analyse how scientific communication journals with greater impact factor on the INRECS index approach health message over the last decade. A total of 1.962 references were reviewed by analyzing publication frequency, authorship, topics, media considered and type of analysis made. It was observed scarcity of studies about health message in communication journals. Most of the articles dealt with public health issues focusing either on specific diseases or on issues that can affect much of the population. Most studies conducted content analysis mainly of press followed by audiovisual content and Internet sparingly; to a lesser extent narrated experiences or reflections. This paper reports the results of experiments from an implementation of H-P2PSIP, a hierarchical overlay architecture based on the ongoing work in the IETF P2PSIP Working Group. This architecture allows the exchange of information among different independent overlay networks through the use of a two-layer architecture based on super-peers and hierarchical identifiers. The validation of this proposal is based on a Linux based real implementation where we have used four different scenarios with 1,000 peers in order to perform different experiments. We have obtained results for different parameters such as routing performance (number of hops), delay, routing state (number of overlay routing entries) and bandwidth consumption. This research was supported in part by the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement n 25774 (TREND Network of Excellence), Comunidad de Madrid grant S-2009/TIC-1468 (MEDIANET project) and Spanish MICINN grant TEC2011-29688-C02-02 (eeCONTENT project).Publicad

SparkEC: speeding up alignment-based DNA error correction tools

[Abstract]: In recent years, huge improvements have been made in the context of sequencing genomic data under what is called Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). However, the DNA reads generated by current NGS platforms are not free of errors, which can affect the quality of downstream analysis. Although error correction can be performed as a preprocessing step to overcome this issue, it usually requires long computational times to analyze those large datasets generated nowadays through NGS. Therefore, new software capable of scaling out on a cluster of nodes with high performance is of great importance. In this paper, we present SparkEC, a parallel tool capable of fixing those errors produced during the sequencing process. For this purpose, the algorithms proposed by the CloudEC tool, which is already proved to perform accurate corrections, have been analyzed and optimized to improve their performance by relying on the Apache Spark framework together with the introduction of other enhancements such as the usage of memory-efficient data structures and the avoidance of any input preprocessing. The experimental results have shown significant improvements in the computational times of SparkEC when compared to CloudEC for all the representative datasets and scenarios under evaluation, providing an average and maximum speedups of 4.9× and 11.9×, respectively, over its counterpart. As error correction can take excessive computational time, SparkEC provides a scalable solution for correcting large datasets. Due to its distributed implementation, SparkEC speed can increase with respect to the number of nodes in a cluster. Furthermore, the software is freely available under GPLv3 license and is compatible with different operating systems (Linux, Windows and macOS).Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; PID2019-104184RB-I00 / AEI / 10.13039 / 501100011033Xunta de Galicia; ED431G 2019/01Xunta de Galicia; ED431C 2021/30FEDER; ED431G 2019/01FEDER; ED431C 2021/3

Presented at the 4th XoveTIC Conference, A Coruña, Spain, 7–8 October 2021.[Abstract] Due to the continuous development in the field of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies that have allowed researchers to take advantage of greater genetic samples in less time, it is a matter of relevance to improve the existing algorithms aimed at the enhancement of the quality of those generated reads. In this work, we present a Big Data tool implemented upon the open-source Apache Spark framework that is able to execute validated error-correction algorithms at an improved performance. The experimental evaluation conducted on a multi-core cluster has shown significant improvements in execution times, providing a maximum speedup of 9.5 over existing error correction tools when processing an NGS dataset with 25 million reads. This research was funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (PID2019-104184RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033), and by Xunta de Galicia and FEDER funds of the European Union (Centro de Investigación de Galicia accreditation 2019-2022, ref. Performance and Extreme Conditions Analysis Based on Iterative Modelling Algorithm for Multi-Trailer AGVs

    Get PDF
Automatic guidance vehicles (AGV) are industrial vehicles that play an important role in the development of smart manufacturing systems and Industry 4.0. To provide these autonomous systems with the flexibility that is required today in these industrial workspaces, AGV computational models are necessary in order to analyze their performance and design efficient planning and control strategies. To address these issues, in this work, the mathematical model and the algorithm that implement a computational control-oriented simulation model of a hybrid tricycle-differential AGV with multi-trailers have been developed. Physical factors, such as wheel-ground interaction and the effect of vertical and lateral loads on its dynamics, have been incorporated into the model. The model has been tested in simulation with two different controllers and three trajectories: a circumference, a square, and an s-shaped curve. Furthermore, it has been used to analyze extreme situations of slipping and capsizing and the influence of the number of trailers on the tracking error and the control effort. This way, the minimum lateral friction coefficient to avoid slipping and the minimum ratio between the lateral and height displacement of the center of gravity to avoid capsizing have been obtained. In addition, the effect of a change in the friction coefficient has also been simulated

Brain-computer interface channel selection optimization using meta-heuristics and evolutionary algorithms

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaMany brain–computer interface (BCI) studies overlook the channel optimization due to its inherent complexity. However, a careful channel selection increases the performance and users’ comfort while reducing the cost of the system. Evolutionary meta-heuristics, which have demonstrated their usefulness in solving complex problems, have not been fully exploited yet in this context. The purpose of the study is two-fold: (1) to propose a novel algorithm to find an optimal channel set for each user and compare it with other existing meta-heuristics; and (2) to establish guidelines for adapting these optimization strategies to this framework. A total of 3 single-objective (GA, BDE, BPSO) and 4 multi-objective (NSGA-II, BMOPSO, SPEA2, PEAIL) existing algorithms have been adapted and tested with 3 public databases: ‘BCI competition III–dataset II’, ‘Center Speller’ and ‘RSVP Speller’. Dual-Front Sorting Algorithm (DFGA), a novel multi-objective discrete method especially designed to the BCI framework, is proposed as well. Results showed that all meta-heuristics outperformed the full set and the common 8-channel set for P300-based BCIs. DFGA showed a significant improvement of accuracy of 3.9% over the latter using also 8 channels; and obtained similar accuracies using a mean of 4.66 channels. A topographic analysis also reinforced the need to customize a channel set for each user. Thus, the proposed method computes an optimal set of solutions with different number of channels, allowing the user to select the most appropriate distribution for the next BCI sessions.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (project RTC2019-007350-1)Comisión Europea (project 0702_MIGRAINEE_2_E
