A Super-Earth Orbiting the Nearby Sun-like Star HD 1461

We present precision radial velocity data that reveal a Super-Earth mass planet and two probable additional planets orbiting the bright nearby G0V star HD 1461. Our 12.8 years of Keck HIRES precision radial velocities indicate the presence of a 7.4M_Earth planet on a 5.77-day orbit. The data also suggest, but cannot yet confirm, the presence of outer planets on low-eccentricity orbits with periods of 446.1 and 5017 days, and projected masses (M sin i) of 27.9 and 87.1M_Earth, respectively. Test integrations of systems consistent with the radial velocity data suggest that the configuration is dynamically stable. We present a 12.2-year time series of photometric observations of HD 1461, which comprise 799 individual measurements, and indicate that it has excellent long-term photometric stability. However, there are small amplitude variations with periods comparable to those of the suspected 2nd and 3rd signals in the radial velocities near 5000 and 446 days, thus casting some suspicion on those periodicities as Keplerian signals. If the 5.77-day companion has a Neptune-like composition, then its expected transit depth is of order ~0.5 millimags. The geometric a priori probability of transits is ~8%. Phase-folding of the ground-based photometry shows no indication that transits of the 5.77-day companion are occurring, but high-precision follow-up of HD 1461 during upcoming transit phase windows will be required to definitively rule out or confirm transits. This new system joins a growing list of solar-type stars in the immediate galactic neighborhood that are accompanied by at least one Neptune- (or lower) mass planets having orbital periods of 50 days or less.Comment: 33 pages, 7 figure

Implicaciones de las reformas educativas en la educación moral de los jóvenes (1930 - 1994)

Este ensayo aborda el problema de la educación moral, la cual estuvo regido por la iglesia hasta el año de 1968, cuando la educación se secularizo completamente. Los gobiernos liberales del Siglo XX, consideraron que la educación moral religiosa poco aportaba, a construir ese país moderno industrial que se imagino desde los años de 1930. Entonces, se convirtió a la educación en un puente para conseguir trabajo y ganarse el pan diario, por lo que apareció la instrucción para el trabajo como las disciplinas técnicas. Estos gobiernos, también consideraron que la educación escolar debía dirigirse hacia la educación superior, en este sentido la enseñanza debía tener un sentido práctico. Después que esta educación moral religiosa, se abolió, no fue para nada reemplazada por otro tipo de educación, por lo cual consideran autores como Daniel Pecaut, que es una de las causas del aumento de la violencia en los años venideros de esta reforma en educación. Valga la pena aclarar que había violencia en los años anteriores a que acabara la educación moral religiosa, pero mantenía al pueblo con un buen referente moral.This paper addresses the problem of moral education, which was ruled by the clergy until 1967, when education is fully secularized. Liberal governments of the twentieth century, believed that religious moral education did not help the modern industrial country wanted since the 1930s. Therefore, education became a bridge to get work and earn their daily bread, and then appears the so called education for working as the technical disciplines. These governments also believed that education should be addressed to higher education, in this regard should have a practical sense. After this religious moral education was abolished, it was not replaced by another type of different education, as considered by authors such as Daniel Pecaut, it is one of the causes of increasing of violence in the coming years from this educational reform. It is worthwhile to clarify that there was violence in the years before finishing of the religious moral education, but It kept the people with a good moral reference

The Lick-Carnegie Exoplanet Survey: A Saturn-Mass Planet in the Habitable Zone of the Nearby M4V Star HIP 57050

Precision radial velocities from Keck/HIRES reveal a Saturn-mass planet orbiting the nearby M4V star HIP 57050. The planet has a minimum mass of 0.3 Jupiter-mass, an orbital period of 41.4 days, and an orbital eccentricity of 0.31. V-band photometry reveals a clear stellar rotation signature of the host star with a period of 98 days, well separated from the period of the radial velocity variations and reinforcing a Keplerian origin for the observed velocity variations. The orbital period of this planet corresponds to an orbit in the habitable zone of HIP 57050, with an expected planetary temperature of approximately 230 K. The star has a metallicity of [Fe/H] = 0.32+/-0.06 dex, of order twice solar and among the highest metallicity stars in the immediate solar neighborhood. This newly discovered planet provides further support that the well-known planet-metallicity correlation for F, G, and K stars also extends down into the M-dwarf regime. The a priori geometric probability for transits of this planet is only about 1%. However, the expected eclipse depth is ~7%, considerably larger than that yet observed for any transiting planet. Though long on the odds, such a transit is worth pursuing as it would allow for high quality studies of the atmosphere via transmission spectroscopy with HST. The Lick-Carnegie Survey: A New Two-Planet System Around the Star HD 207832

Keck/HIRES precision radial velocities of HD 207832 indicate the presence of two Jovian-type planetary companions in Keplerian orbits around this G star. The planets have minimum masses of 0.56 and 0.73 Jupiter-masses with orbital periods of ~162 and ~1156 days, and eccentricities of 0.13 and 0.27, respectively. Stromgren b and y photometry reveals a clear stellar rotation signature of the host star with a period of 17.8 days, well separated from the period of the radial velocity variations, reinforcing their Keplerian origin. The values of the semimajor axes of the planets suggest that these objects have migrated from the region of giant planet formation to closer orbits. In order to examine the possibility of the existence of additional (small) planets in the system, we studied the orbital stability of hypothetical terrestrial-sized objects in the region between the two planets and interior to the orbit of the inner body. Results indicated that stable orbits exist only in a small region interior to planet b. Ozone Reduction Survey Results: The Fall 97 Ozone Report

The Annual Ozone Reduction telephone survey measures ground level ozone knowledge, attitudes, intentions, and behaviors and is given to Atlanta residents living and working in the 13 county ozone non-attainment area. The survey was conducted by the Applied Research Center at Georgia State University. Residents were randomly selected and interviewed from October 1st -- November 7th, 1997. Interviewing was conducted on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Weekend interviewing was conducted Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Each number was contacted a minimum of 7 times, or until a final disposition was reached. The actual results collected were weighted using the most recent U.S. Census data on the state of Georgia.The results of the Survey are likely to contain some error. Ninety-five percent of the time, error due to the random selection process will be no more than 3.5 percentage points plus or minus the reported percentage for all Georgians. Error for subgroups is likely to be slightly larger. Other sources of error are caused by individuals refusing to participate in the interview and inability to connect with the selected telephone number. For the Fall 1997 survey, 1275 surveys were completed, a response rate of 66%. Every feasible effort is made to obtain a response and reduce the error, but the reader should be aware that some error is inherent in all research.Approximately 74% of respondents were white and 23% African American, 55% were female and 45% male. The mean age was 41 and, on average, respondents had completed some college course work. The median family income was $50,000-$75,000 and 66% of those surveyed owned their residence

Efecto de dos modelos de gestión sobre fuentes de conocimiento tácito y explícito en productores de ovinos y caprinos

Con el objetivo de entender el comportamiento del conocimiento como parte de los factores de producción y competitividad del sector ovino caprino, desde el punto de vista epistemológico se estudiaron algunas fuentes de conocimiento tácito (la imaginación, un familiar, la propia experiencia, entre otras) y explícito (las estadísticas, un investigador, las normas), en 66 granjas ovino caprinas en Colombia durante cinco años, de 2007 a 2012. En el transcurso del proceso se evaluó el efecto que tuvieron en ellas dos sistemas de gestión: el primero correspondió a un sistema de asistencia técnica “tradicional”, con análisis y recomendaciones directas del profesional al productor, y en el segundo se trabajó con asistencia basada en creación y evolución del conocimiento, según los planteamientos de la gestión del conocimiento. Los datos se examinaron mediante pruebas de Kruskal-Wallis y Chi², y análisis de clúster y de correspondencia multivariado. Se encontró que, al tomar una decisión, las granjas tienden a privilegiar las fuentes de conocimiento tácito sobre las correspondientes al explícito. La aplicación de asistencia técnica clásica con recomendaciones directas no generó diferencias en las fuentes de conocimiento explícito (p>0,05), ni en aquellas de conocimiento tácito (p>0,05). De igual forma, las granjas intervenidas con gestión del conocimiento no presentaron diferencias en las fuentes de conocimiento tácito (p>0,05),ni en las de conocimiento explícito (p>0,05). Costos : Diagnóstico de los costos de producción por proceso para la panaderia y reposteria El Mana correspondiente al año 2015

Este seminario tiene como objetivo fundamental realizar un diagnóstico de los costos de producción para la Panadería y Repostería el Maná, año 2015. El tipo de metodología empleado en el desarrollo de este seminario fue de campo documental dirigido hacia un nivel descriptivo, por cuanto se hizo necesario recopilar, describir, organizar e interpretar los datos directamente de la empresa; haciendo hincapié en los elementos principales del sistema de costos por proceso. Su universo lo constituyó el personal que se encuentra involucrado en el proceso de producción a los cuales se les aplicó el modelo de entrevista no estructurada, lo que permitió obtener una idea clara y precisa de los procesos ejecutados en la empresa. Por lo que como equipo investigativo se decidió calcular todos los costos en que incurre la elaboración del Pan Simple y de esta manera ofrecerle al propietario un precio definido en el que pueda vender su producto a sus clientes en el que no presente pérdidas. Luego de realizada la investigación se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados: la empresa presenta fallas en el control del proceso productivo, debido a la ausencia de un departamento contable que vigile los costos inmersos en el mismo La panadería y Repostería “El Maná” no cuenta con una estructura de costo definida, que permita una correcta fijación de precio de venta que cubra los costos y gastos operativos para que pueda generar ganancias a la panadería. Otra de las fallas que presento esta panadería es que cuenta con un método de control de inventarios empírico y manual, por lo cual no hay un control exacto de las unidades físicas y monetarias de materia prima e insumo. Vendiendo el pan simple a un precio de C$ 28 córdobas por bolsas de doce unidades, por lo que en el estudio este valor representa utilidades mínimas para la pyme, por lo cual se recomienda: implementar el diseño propuesto, para así evitar desviaciones y maximizar ganancias.
