    Even Dimensional Improper Affine Spheres

    Get PDF
There are exactly two different types of bi-dimensional improper affine spheres: the non-convex ones can be modeled by the center-chord transform of a pair of planar curves while the convex ones can be modeled by a holomorphic map. In this paper, we show that both constructions can be generalized to arbitrary even dimensions: the former class corresponds to the center-chord transform of a pair of Lagrangian submanifolds while the latter is related to special K\"ahler manifolds. Furthermore, we show that the improper affine spheres obtained in this way are solutions of certain exterior differential systems. Finally, we also discuss the problem of realization of simple stable Legendrian singularities as singularities of these improper affine spheres.Comment: 26 page

Moenkhausia bonita occurs in numerous additional localities from the Bermejo, Paraná, Paraguay, and Uruguay river basins. Given that this finding greatly expands the distributional range of M. bonita, we carried out an intraspecific comparison, using multivariate methods for 18 morphometric and eight meristic characters taken from a comprehensive sample of 536 specimens. All localities were distributed in four major geographic groups as follows: Bermejo, Paraná, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Results of the morphometric comparisons showed significant differences among the studied groups except between the Paraguay and Uruguay groups. Statistical differences in meristic values were found for most between-group comparisons, especially in those resulting from discriminant canonical analyses (DCA). Specimens from the Bermejo basin were the most distinct group in most morphological comparisons. However, the overall subtle differences found in body morphology likely reflect intraspecific variation within M. bonita and seem to be mainly influenced by spatial and environmental features of drainages. As M. bonita was previously identified as M. intermedia in the río de La Plata basin, distributional comments on the latter species in that basin are provided.Fil: Vanegas Rios, James Anyelo. Analysis of professional perceptions relating to the effectiveness of codes of ethics for journalists in Spain

    Get PDF
The methodology used in the present study is based on quantitative content analysis using the survey technique. This technique makes it possible to obtain empirical data on various key aspects of the profession that are determining factors in ascertaining Spanish journalists’ views of one of the instruments of accountability that is external to the media: general ethical codes. The results show that Spanish journalists are largely confident in the effectiveness of ethical codes in their profession. Likewise, it was seen that variables such as age, professional experience or the media with which they work influence the perceptions that professionals have of such instruments. If we understand journalism as a profession whose mission is to guarantee the citizenship their right to information, it is essential to be familiar with the tools provided by the profession itself in order to be accountable to the public regarding this professional mission. Hence the importance of instruments of accountability and the perceptions of the professionals themselves regarding their effectiveness

Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. The chilli pepper (Capsicum baccatum var. Pendulum) is considered the most important crop within the local pepper cultivated in Peru, for this reason the present research aims at the morphological characterization of ten selections of pickled pepper, employing Descriptors of capsicum spp. (IPGRI, 1995), in order to generate useful information for a process of genetic improvement. A total of 160 seedlings were used from each of the selections, which were distributed in four blocks equally and randomly. The trial was installed in the field called "Pancal", which is located at the National Agrarian University La Molina, during the period from October 2015 to April 2016. For the present study we used 20 morphological descriptors of capsicum spp, useful to differentiate the germplasm and to know the characteristics of interest of the studied selections. The analysis of variance (to validate the utility of the descriptors) was used at a 5% probability, which includes position and dispersion measures (mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation). Significant differences (P <0.05) were found between selections in most of the characters, especially those related to the fruit, which reflects a considerable variability and indicates that it is possible to select materials with fruit characteristics more suitable for the markets. In the hierarchical cluster analysis three groupings were formed, which separated the selection A-21 (group III) from the rest of selections, being unique characteristics, to produce a high number of fruits of very small size and with low number of seeds , Which separates it into a group very apart from the other groups studied, which in turn formed groups with minimal differences between them.Tesi

Comparison of cadmium adsorption by inorganic adsorbents in column systems

    Get PDF
Carbonaceous material obtained from industrial sewage sludge and Na-zeolitic tuff were used to adsorb cadmium from aqueous solutions in column systems. The Bohart, Thomas, Yoon–Nelson, and mass transfer models were successfully used to fit the adsorption data at different depths, and the constant rates were evaluated. The parameters such as breakthrough and saturation times, bed volumes, kinetic constants, adsorption capacities, and adsorbent usage rates (AUR) were determined. The results show that the breakthrough time increases proportionally with increasing bed height. The adsorption capacity for cadmium for Na-zeolitic tuff was higher than carbonaceous material. The results indicated that the Na-zeolitic tuff is a good adsorbent for cadmium removal.CONACYT, project 131174Q, and PROMEP/103.5/13/6535 project

Microvascular Obstruction in ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction : Looking Back to Move Forward. Focus on CMR

    Get PDF
After a myocardial infarction (MI), despite the resolution of the coronary occlusion, the deterioration of myocardial perfusion persists in a considerable number of patients. This phenomenon is known as microvascular obstruction (MVO). Initially, the focus was placed on re-establishing blood flow in the epicardial artery. Then, the observation that MVO has profound negative structural and prognostic repercussions revived interest in microcirculation. In the near future, the availability of co-adjuvant therapies (beyond timely coronary reperfusion) aimed at preventing, minimizing, and repairing MVOs and finding convincing answers to questions regarding what, when, how, and where to administer these therapies will be of utmost importance. The objective of this work is to review the state-of-the-art concepts on pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and structural and clinical implications of MVOs in patients with ST-segment elevation MIs. Based on this knowledge we discuss previously-tested and future opportunities for the prevention and repair of MVO
