    Axially Uniform Magnetic Field-Modulation Excitation for Electron Paramagnetic Resonance in Rectangular and Cylindrical Cavities by Slot Cutting

    In continuous-wave (CW) Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) a low-frequency time-harmonic magnetic field, called field modulation, is applied parallel to the static magnetic field and incident on the sample. Varying amplitude of the field modulation incident on the sample has consequences on spectral line-shape and line-height over the axis of the sample. Here we present a method of coupling magnetic field into the cavity using slots perpendicular to the sample axis where the slot depths are designed in such a way to produce an axially uniform magnetic field along the sample. Previous literature typically assumes a uniform cross-section and axial excitation due to the wavelength of the field modulation being much larger than the cavity. Through numerical analysis and insights obtained from the eigenfunction expansion of dyadic Green’s functions, it is shown that evanescent standing-wave modes with complex cross-sections are formed within the cavity. From this analysis, a W-band (94 GHz) cylindrical cavity is designed where modulation slots are optimized to present a uniform 100 kHz field modulation over the length of the sample

The most matter is midi music files downloaded from any website are not combined with their music sheet. This condition makes users have a difficulty in playing the song. Consider this problem, this apllication is developed to support user with partitur crated from midi music file. This application is designed to produce a music sheet aoutomatically in music notation. This application is created using Borland Delphi 7. This application receives monophonic midi music file as input. This application will read and processes the midi file be a music string, then the music string will be kept in a data structure. Output from this application is a music sheet from midi music file chosen by user. User also can save and print the music sheet. This application success to create the music sheet from midi music file, but it still has limitation, for example is drawing the rest symbol. If there are so many rest symbols, application will draw from the rest symbol whose biggest value

    The establishment of the Constitutional Court as the guardian of constitution that protects the citizens’ human rights gives hope for the implementation of “rule of law” principle. The Constitutional Court is expected to play a big role in upholding and protecting the citizens’ constitutional rights through each of its decisions. This expectation has become meaningless since Article 59 (2) of Law Number 8/2011 is declared to have no binding legal force by the Constitutional Court Decision Number 49/PUU-IX/2011. What are the impacts of the elimination of Article 59 (2) which has been formulated in Law Number 7/2020? This research is socio legal studies that uses secondary data that are collected through literature study. The elimination of Article 59 (2) in Law Number 7/2020 shows violation of the rule of law principles. In addition, the legislation products which are legitimized based on Law Number 7/2020 are unable to guarantee the citizens’ constitutional rights

    New grayscale hit-miss operator

    The morphological binary hit-miss operator has been used extensively to locate features within a binary image. We propose a grayscale hit-miss operator that detects signal shapes and is applicable to scalar-valued functions on one, two, or more dimensions. The hit and miss structuring elements define the lower and upper bounds of the signal: If a signal lies between the hit and miss templates, then the hit-miss operator will produce a one output; otherwise, it will respond with zero. We incorporate a fuzzy logic element to the hit-miss operator to indicate how strongly the signal matches the hit-miss templates

    Transformative Learning in Nicaragua: A Retrospective Analysis of University Agriculture Students’ Long-Term Changes in Perspective After a Study Abroad Course

    Study abroad courses have become a priority for institutions of higher education because of a need to broaden students’ perspectives of the world. However, a dearth of knowledge existed regarding whether the reported outcomes of study abroad courses, such changes to students’ perspectives, endure over time. In response, this retrospective study explored how university agriculture students’ (n = 5) shared experiences during a one-week study abroad course to Nicaragua influenced their long-term changes in perspective after returning to the U.S. in 2018. Through our phenomenological analysis, three themes emerged: (1) dichotomous learning outcomes, (2) recognition of power and privilege, and (3) advocacy for global experiences. In the first theme, dichotomous learning outcomes, participants’ long-term changes in perspective appeared to vary based on their level of academic maturity. Meanwhile, in the second theme, as university agriculture students compared their lived experiences in Nicaragua to their existing assumptions of the U.S., it appeared to elicit powerful shifts concerning how they viewed the world. And, as a result, they reported their experiences prompted them to consider the implications of social inequities more deeply. In the final theme, participants reported that after returning home, they began to advocate for global experiences among their peers, family, and friends. Consequently, our findings supported the use of short-term study abroad courses to foster a positive transformation in students’ global perspectives and behaviors after returning to the U.S

    Awakening Transformative Learning: A Comparison of the Dissonance Experienced by Agriculture Majors During Study Abroad Courses to Costa Rica and Thailand

    Students who have participated in study abroad courses exhibit an improved capacity for citizenship, emotional growth, and global competence. However, achieving such requires that study abroad courses be designed to allow students to question their underlying beliefs and values – a concept called dissonance. When individuals reflect on dissonance, it has been reported to spur a process in which their previously held perspectives are transformed. As such, this investigation sought to compare the dissonance experienced by agriculture majors (N =21) at Louisiana State University during study abroad courses to Costa Rica and Thailand. We bounded cases by academic college, degree level, and year. However, they were distinct regarding context and duration. As a result, two forms of dissonance were consistent across cases: intellectual and moral. However, within cases, we also distilled context-specific dissonance that students grappled with that helped them reconsider their previously held worldviews. Our findings demonstrated that when students processed dissonance productively, their global knowledge and perspectives were transformed. We also concluded that although shared forms of dissonance existed, it is imperative for faculty to design students’ experiences abroad purposefully to nurture students’ perspective changes in transformative ways

    Enhanced skin carcinogenesis and lack of thymus hyperplasia in transgenic mice expressing human cyclin D1b (CCND1b)

    Cyclin D1b is an alternative transcript of the cyclin D1 gene (CCND1) expressed in human tumors. Its abundance is regulated by a single base pair polymorphism at the exon 4/intron 4 boundary (nucleotide 870). Epidemiological studies have shown a correlation between the presence of the G870A allele (that favors the splicing for cyclin D1b) with increased risk and less favorable outcome in several forms of cancer. More recently, it has been shown that, unlike cyclin D1a, the alternative transcript D1b by itself has the capacity to transform fibroblasts in vitro. In order to study the oncogenic potential of cyclin D1b, we developed transgenic mice expressing human cyclin D1b under the control of the bovine K5 promoter (K5D1b mice). Seven founders were obtained and none of them presented any significant phenotype or developed spontaneous tumors. Interestingly, K5D1b mice do not develop the fatal thymic hyperplasia, which is characteristic of the cyclin D1a transgenic mice (K5D1a). Susceptibility to skin carcinogenesis was tested in K5D1b mice using two-stage carcinogenesis protocols. In two independent experiments, K5D1b mice developed higher papilloma multiplicity as compared with wild-type littermates. However, when K5D1b mice were crossed with cyclin D1KO mice, the expression of cyclin D1b was unable to rescue the carcinogenesis-resistant phenotype of the cyclin D1 KO mice. To further explore the role of cyclin D1b in mouse models of carcinogenesis we carried out in silico analysis and in vitro experiments to evaluate the existence of a mouse homologous of the human cyclin D1b transcript. We were unable to find any evidence of an alternatively spliced transcript in mouse Ccnd1. These results show that human cyclin D1b has different biological functions than cyclin D1a and confirm its oncogenic properties.Fil: Rojas, Paola Andrea.
