Zone of Proscription and Confinement of Evils
UIDB/00657/2020 UIDP/00657/2020The sea is present in the collection of Popular Medicine collected by Michel Giacometti and published in Artes de Cura e Espanta-Males (2009). In many of the recipes and incantations belonging to various medical specialties, the sea – like the mountain or the high pine forest – is an area where evils are thrown / exorcised. From a close reading of the most explicit part of the collection regarding the relationship between the therapeutic ritual and the sea, we find that there is a clear border between humanized spaces – symptomatically, where roosters and chickens are singing and, by extension, other domesticated animals – and the so-called outlawed, non-humanized zones. Necessarily, a boundary to be veiled and maintained for the benefit of (fragile) human and non-human bodies. The person who throws the material remains of a therapeutic ritual into the sea often does so with his back to the sea. The evils are sent to the curdled, salty, sacred sea, or to the very bottom of the sea. Precisely, where they are believed to be no longer harmful and can never return. It is well known that in terms of a landscape history, the sea – as well as the mountain and the desert – was / is, because it is an area of incalculable risk and danger, a hostile landscape. And, only in modern times, the sea (as well as the seaside and the beach) is a landscape and a place of leisure. The aforementioned collection of folk medicine is atestament to this premodern mentality.publishersversionpublishe
The rise of the internet and the generation that grew up surrounded by electronic devices has radically changed perception and way of interacting with the media production. Especially of those who were born between the 80s and 90s of the twentieth century. Called the Generation Y, these young adults have predominance in the consumption of television series, which are now migrating to the internet. Considered a controversial, dispersive generation but at the same time, collaborative and capable of performing several tasks, this generation grew up influenced by characters from games and TV series. Today, the new ways of TV series consumption are dedicated mostly to this audience and reflect its characteristics. This article discusses the role of series in the constitution of Generation Y by analyzing three series aired in streaming, which outline the profile of this generation: Sense 8, Daredevil and Penny Dreadful
Stomach cancer incidence in Southern Portugal 1998-2006:a spatio-temporal analysis
Understanding geographical differences in health, particularly in small areas, became
a major concern of epidemiologists. Geographical association studies and, more recently, several spatial disease mapping studies have emerged due to the development of new spatial statistical tools.
Among other diseases, these methods are being applied to analyze cancer data. However, in this kind of studies, it is of utmost importance to also investigate the influence of temporal variability and that is why spatio-temporal studies became so popular. The aim of this study is to investigate spatial and temporal trends for the incidence of this type of cancer. This retrospective population-based study is based on data on all stomach cancers registered by the Southern Portuguese Cancer Registry (ROR Sul) between 1998 and 2006. Because several studies have underlined the important role of socioeconomic status in cancer risk, information on this variable has also been taken into account. Bayesian hierarchical models were applied to model stomach incidence at a county level and resulting relative risks were used to build risk maps for cancer incidence. Age-Period-Cohort models were also applied.N/
White wine protein instability: Mechanism, quality control and technological alternatives for wine stabilisation—an overview.
Wine protein instability depends on several factors, but wine grape proteins are the main
haze factors, being mainly caused by pathogenesis-related proteins (thaumatin-like proteins and
chitinases) with a molecular weight between 10~40 kDa and an isoelectric point below six. Wine
protein stability tests are needed for the routine control of this wine instability, and to select the
best technological approach to remove the unstable proteins. The heat test is the most used, with
good correlation with the natural proteins’ precipitations and because high temperatures are the
main protein instability factor after wine bottling. Many products and technological solutions
have been studied in recent years; however, sodium bentonite is still the most efficient and used
treatment to remove unstable proteins from white wines. This overview resumes and discusses the
different aspects involved in wine protein instability, from the wine protein instability mechanisms,
the protein stability tests used, and technological alternatives available to stabilise wines with protein
instability problems. This research was funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT-Portugal) and Operational

fÃsico-quÃmicas e sensoriais no vinho.
Além disso, todas as manoproteÃnas diminuÃram o potencial
This study investigates how the perception of authentizotic climate (camaraderie spirit; leader trust and credibility; the open and frank communication with the leader; learning opportunities and personal development; equity / justice; work-family conciliation) explain the innovative behavior and improve individual performance. The data was analyzed from a questionnaire answered by 128 employees of a multinational. The results suggest that (1) the employees perception of camaraderie spirit explain their innovative behavior, (2) the fairness / justice perception and open and frank communication with the leader explains the individual performance, (3) the innovative behavior influences individual performance. In spite of the study limitations, the empirical evidence suggests that individuals who perceive such authentizotic features tend to adopt more innovative behaviors and improve their individual performances
Taking into account a conceptual discussion about violence and a reference to the social representations
concerning the violent behaviour, we present some data, drawn from a larger
study on prevention, concerning the beliefs of a group of young adolescents on interpersonal
violence. The results show that for these adolescents the reasons that most legitimize the
use of violence are those of an individual level
No
satisfazer as necessidades do cliente, que neste caso, é o cidadão. Deste modo,
exigências do mercado atual.
organismo queira. E desta forma, gerar melhorias constantes, tanto aos
colaboradores, quanto aos clientes – cidadãos.Marketing has gone beyond the limits of the private sphere and has become
essential to any kind of organizational system. It’s considered as one of the best
planning strategies that an organization could apply. In the public sector, it has
objectives that converge in the matter of valuing and satisfying the needs of the
client, who in this case is the citizen. In this way, it’s demonstrated in the Institute of
Registries and Notary - IRN, with more than 70 years of existence and with national
scope, the need to follow the new requirements of the current market. And marketing
planning is essential to the achievement of organizational goals, because its method
is a way that can clutter in a logical sequence all thoughts, studies and marketing
actions, whether for a product or for the entire organization, in a document written.
Therefore, the main objective of this work is to develop the first Marketing Plan for
IRN for its Citizen Card product, with emphasis on external communication and
brand strengthening, as well as providing the inputs for future marketing plans for
the institution. For this, secondary and primary data analyzes were carried out
throughout the project, with the intention of making feasible the implementation of
the proposed marketing plan. They are: Historical survey; Macro and
microenvironment study; Consumer survey; and Literature review. It’s hoped that
with the results presented to the organization under study, it will be possible to
implement the planning for the specific product, as well as any other that the
organism wants. And in this way, generate constant improvements, both to
employees and to customers - citizens
