Regardless of the technique used’ releasing medial ligament structures is a safe and effective method to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries to the medial compartment.publishersversionpublishe

In the search for solutions that enhance the quality of life entrepreneurship stands out as the process of creating something different and with value having the entrepreneur as the main factor promoting the economic and social development of a country The university extension is an example of the changes occurring in the academic field corresponding to an educational and scientific process with a differentiated knowledge that transforms society relating academic and have experiences using theory and putting it into practice This article demonstrates the contribution of academic education using social intervention methodologies Thus the importance of entrepreneurship and social business for the economic and social development of local actors deprived of entrepreneurial opportunities promoted through the dynamics of university extensio
Evaluation of self-perception of mechanical ventilation knowledge among Brazilian final-year medical students, residents and emergency physicians
OBJECTIVE: To present self-assessments of knowledge about mechanical ventilation made by final-year medical students, residents, and physicians taking qualifying courses at the Brazilian Society of Internal Medicine who work in urgent and emergency settings. METHODS: A 34-item questionnaire comprising different areas of knowledge and training in mechanical ventilation was given to 806 medical students, residents, and participants in qualifying courses at 11 medical schools in Brazil. The questionnaire’s self-assessment items for knowledge were transformed into scores. RESULTS: The average score among all participants was 21% (0-100%). Of the total, 85% respondents felt they did not receive sufficient information about mechanical ventilation during medical training. Additionally, 77% of the group reported that they would not know when to start noninvasive ventilation in a patient, and 81%, 81%, and 89% would not know how to start volume control, pressure control and pressure support ventilation modes, respectively. Furthermore, 86.4% and 94% of the participants believed they would not identify the basic principles of mechanical ventilation in patients with obstructive pulmonary disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome, respectively, and would feel insecure beginning ventilation. Finally, 77% said they would fear for the safety of a patient requiring invasive mechanical ventilation under their care. CONCLUSION: Self-assessment of knowledge and self-perception of safety for managing mechanical ventilation were deficient among residents, students and emergency physicians from a sample in Brazil

Cerebral aneurysms diagnosis by three-dimensional CT angiography
Three-dimensional computerized tomography angiography is a fast diagnosis method and low invasive that passed to be used recently in the cases of intracranial aneurysms. This method presents a 100% specificity and can reach 95% of sensibility in the evaluation of the aneurysms in the circle of Willis, substituting the digital angiography but not in all of the cases. We report our experience in evaluation of the three-dimensional angiotomography exams in a period of 2 years between June of 1997 and June of 1999, were accomplished for detection of intracranial aneurysms in 136 patients, being 118 just with three-dimensional angiotomography and in 18 cases they were accomplished besides three-dimensional angiotomography also the conventional digital angiography. The exam of three-dimensional angiotomography possesses low risk being used better in the detection of the aneurysms when possess higher diameter than 3mm, with some limitations as in the very small aneurysms when smaller than 3mm, carotid intern cavarnous aneurysms, posterior circulation aneurysms as well as the non accomplishment of the dynamic exam.
Radical Scavenger Capacity of Jabuticaba Fruit ( Myrciaria cauliflora
Jabuticaba is an exotic fruit native to Brazil that has been arousing medicinal interest. Using chemical (HPLC-PDA, resonance mass spectra, and NMR), electroanalytical (differential pulse voltammetry, radical scavenging assay), and pharmacological (in vivo and in vitro) approaches, we have identified its bioactive compounds and hypotensive effects on hypertensive rats. The hydroalcoholic extract of jabuticaba (HEJ) presents a great quantity of phenolic compounds, and several molecules with hydroxyl groups present high efficiency as an antioxidant. The treatment with HEJ (100 and 300 mg/kg/day, for four weeks) presented hypotensive effects on L-NAME-induced hypertensive rats, possibly improving the nitric oxide bioavailability because of its high antioxidant potential. Furthermore, renal and cardiac hypertrophies were also attenuated after the HEJ treatment. Moreover, the vascular responses to contractile and dilating agonists were improved with the HEJ treatment, which is also able to induce nitric oxide production in endothelial cells
