Efeito da adubação suplementar foliar associada a diferentes substratos em mudas de Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão/ Effect of foliar supplementary fodder associated with different substrates in mudas of Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão
Relationships between soil properties and species establishment in the restoration of mined soils in the cerrado biome
Restoring the ecosystems of the Cerrado biome is challenging considering the diversity of phytophysiognomies present in the biome, some of which are composed of species from different strata (herbaceous, shrubby, and arboreal), which increases the complexity of restructuring the floristic composition. Other factors was involved, such as soil quality, which directly influences the success of restoration, water storage, and nutrients, the financial costs, and a slow ecological process, due to the adverse circumstances found in the area. be restored. The strong anthropogenic interventions by mining processes reduce dramatically the physical and nutritional composition of the soil. We studied two restoration areas in Paracatu, Brazil, to examine their edaphic conditions six years after mining activities ceased and relate them to the status of the restoration process. In 2009, a Cerrado restoration were established in an area previously explored for gravel extraction. Plants were sampled and identified in 11 transects along the planting lines. The diameter base (DB) and total height (HT) were measured. The physical/chemical quality of the soil substrate was determined using a collection of samples in open trenches at four types of points: Cerrado (TC); dead plant pits (TM); seedling pits having living individuals of the most abundant species (TT); and those of the second-most abundant species (TE). Cecropia pachystachya Trécul and Tapirira guianensis Aubl. were most abundant and demonstrated the potential to thrive in areas degraded by mining having low mortality rates and growth at relatively DB and HT. The physical quality indicators in the gravel pits were not limiting, indicating that substrate preparation was efficient in this regard. The organic matter content in TM, TT, and TE was low in comparison to that of TC, and the chemical conditions in the TE pit substrates were similar to those in TM pits, suggesting C. pachystachya is a species with good plasticity, whereas T. guianensis is present in pits with higher levels of phosphorus
Modeling biomass and nutrients in a eucalyptus stand in the cerrado
The prediction of biological processes, which involve growth and plant development, is possible via the adjustment of mathematical models. In forest areas, these models assist in management practices, silviculture, harvesting, and soil fertility. Diameter, basal area, and height are predictors of volume and biomass estimates in forest stands. This study utilized different non-linear models for estimating biomass and nutrient values in the aerial biomass and roots of an unmanaged eucalypt stand in Cerrado dystrophic soil. It was hypothesized that the models would estimate the nutrients of the aboveground biomass and roots after meeting the selection and validation criteria. By statistical analysis of the parameters and subsequent validation, the Schumacher–Hall model was presented to be the best fit for biomass and nutrients. This result confirmed the ability of different variables, including diameter, basal area, and height, to be predicted. Estimating the nutrient values in the aboveground biomass and roots allowed a better understanding of the quality of the vegetal residues that remained in the soil. For dystrophic soils, which occur in the Cerrado, these estimates become even more relevant
Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research
Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4

of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In
the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of
Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. Effect of nutritional supplementation in the development of native forest species of Cerrado in nursery
The Disorganized exploration of natural resources has led to the degradation of areas in most of the national territory, thus increasing the demand for products and services aimed at the recovery of degraded land and, especially, for the production of native forest species seedlings. The objective of this study was evaluate the effect of substrate fertilization and leaf nutritional supplementation on the development of seedlings of native Cerrado forest species in nursery conditions, Pau Santo (Kielmeyera coriacea Mart. & Zucc.), Cagaita Eugenia dysenterica (Mart.) DC.), Ipê Roxo (Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart. Ex DC.) Mattos) and Aroeira (Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão). The experiment was implemented using a completely randomized design (CRD), in a factorial scheme with two factors: the substrate with three levels and foliar fertilization with three levels, with ten replicates. Three types of substrates were evaluated: 1 - Land (Red Latosol); 2 - Land + bovine manure in the proportion of 2:1; 3 - Land + bovine manure in a ratio of 2:1 + 2.2 kg NPK (10-10-10) per cubic meter of substrate + 1.3 kg of limestone per cubic meter of substrate. These substrates were associated with three doses of foliar fertilization (NPK applied weekly, NPK applied quarterly, and control, without foliar NPK application). The treatments were submitted to analysis of variance, evaluating Dickson, height, diameter and quality index increments. For Pau Santo species, it is recommended to use a substrate composed only of red latosol, and for the species Cagaita and Ipê Roxo it is recommended to use a substrate composed of Red Latosol with addition of bovine manure in the proportion of 2:1 ratio, and it is not recommended to apply foliar fertilization In the production of seedlings for all species studied. Aroeira was not included in the analyzes, as it had the incidence of Tripes in the first months after transplanting, and its growth was impaired. Regarding soil analysis, organic matter, amount of phosphorus and calcium were determinants in the formation of groups by principal component analysis. The correlation of the substrate chemical variables was not able to accurately explain the measurement variables and the distribution of the species in each substrate in the gradient by canonical correspondence analysis
No bioma Cerrado,
Geraizeiras, cuja cultura é baseada no agroextrativismo.
(Annona crassiflora, Caryocar brasiliense, Eugenia dysenterica e Hancornia speciosa).
A espécie T. subvelutina,
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).The Brazil is home to one of the planet's greatest floristic and faunal riches, is also home to a rich
sociobiodiversity with several traditional communities. In the Cerrado biome, specifically in the
north of the state of Minas Gerais, there is a rich and complex context of sociocultural groups,
among which stand out the traditional peoples and communities, self-denominated Geraizeiras,
whose culture is based on agroextractivism. In this region there are also major land use and
occupation conflicts, which generate various problems for the livelihoods of communities, due to
deforestation and substitution of native vegetation for other uses. In general, these environmental
impacts end up affecting directly the survival of the traditional peoples and communities of a
region, especially when these impacts compromise the supply of natural resources essential to
these populations and the supply and regulation of essential ecosystem services, such as the
regulation of hydrological cycles. Bioclimatic changes caused by anthropogenic alterations can
affect populations of tree species in natural ecosystems, causing significant changes in the
abundance and distribution of their individuals. Therefore, the spatialization of natural areas with
agroextractivist potential associated with the estimation of population density of the exploited
species serves to estimate the productive potential and subsidize planning for the management
and use of the areas. In the present study, we sought to estimate the density of individuals and
the productive potential of tree species of agroextractivist interest in the Cerrado using high spatial
resolution species distribution models and to evaluate the impact of land use change on the
productive potential of these species in the Alto Rio Pardo Citizenship Territory, in Northern Minas
Gerais. The study was conducted in the Territory of Citizenship Alto Rio Pardo (TCARP), located
in the extreme north of the state of Minas Gerais. Five species of agroextractivist interest by the
Geraizieras communities were contemplated, being one of timber interest, [Tachigali subvelutina
(Benth.) Oliveira-Filho] and four of non-timber use, [Annona crassiflora Mart., Caryocar
brasiliense Cambess, Eugenia dysenterica (Mart.) DC. and Hancornia speciosa Gomes]. To
estimate and spatialize the density of individuals, the distribution of the five species was modeled,
using nine processing algorithms and the consensus model, based on 23 environmental
variables, including high spatial resolution geomorphological and bioclimatic. The scores related
to the suitability of occurrence of each species were associated with their respective densities of
individuals, recorded from a stratified inventory conducted in the study area. Four exponential
allometric density models were fitted for each species and the processing algorithm for species
distribution modeling. To estimate the productive potential of the region, the estimated density
rasters were associated with secondary data of average productivity of individuals of each
species. The productive potential was compared considering two scenarios, the current scenario,
which considers the all gradient of suitability of agroextractivist interest species occurrence in the
TCARP. The species distribution models showed a high relation of the areas with occurrence suitability with water availability and higher isothermality, located mainly in the geomorphological
units named chapada and mesa, typical of savanna vegetation occurrence in the Cerrado biome,
presenting significant difference in the predictions when using high spatial resolution variables.
The density of individuals increased with increasing suitability of occurrence of the species, with
strong proportionality relationship between the variables for the species A. crassiflora,
C. brasiliense, E. dysenterica and H. speciosa, and moderate relationship for T. subvelutina, with
values of root mean square error (RMSE%) ranging from 35.8% to 55.7%. The estimation of the
density of individuals by means of species distribution models resulted in reliable equations,
presenting high variation for different species and different algorithms, which demands, case by
case, a cautious evaluation of the fit metrics and precision, when applying the methodological
proposal for different native species. It was found that E. dysenterica has the highest fruit
production potential in the TCARP (254,884 t), followed by C. brasiliense (62,688 t), A. crassiflora
(2,574 t) and H. speciosa (1,325 t), and that the production potential of these species was strongly
reduced by the deforestation of native vegetation, mainly for the silviculture of eucalyptus in the
chapada areas. When considering the scenario free of soil cover changes, that is, the entire range
of species' suitability of occurrence, it is estimated that TCARP has the capacity to increase fruit
production potential by up to 2.4 times. The species T. subvelutina, of timber interest, showed a
productive potential of 13,697.5 m³ for the TCARP and because it is widely used by communities
at the family level, it needs further studies on management techniques and level of sustainable
exploitation
