N-Terminal myristoylation alters the calcium binding pathways in neuronal calcium sensor-1

Neuronal calcium sensor-1 (NCS-1) interacts with many membranes and cytosolic proteins, both in a Ca2+-dependent and in a Ca2+-independent manner, and its physiological role is governed by its N-terminal myristoylation. To understand the role of myristoylation in altering Ca2+ response and other basic biophysical properties, we have characterized the Ca2+ filling pathways in both myristoylated (myr) and non-myristoylated (non-myr) forms of NCS-1. We have observed that Ca2+ binds simultaneously to all three active EF-hands in non-myr NCS-1, whereas in the case of myr NCS-1, the process is sequential, where the second EF-hand is filled first, followed by the third and fourth EF-hands. In the case of myr NCS-1, the observed sequential Ca2+ binding process becomes more prominent in the presence of Mg2+. Besides, the analysis of 15N-relaxation data reveals that non-myr NCS-1 is more dynamic than myr NCS-1. The overall molecular tumbling correlation time increases by approximately 20% upon myristoylation. Comparing the apo forms of non-myr NCS-1 and myr NCS-1, we found the possibility of existence of some substates, which are structurally closer to the holo form of the protein. There are more such substates in the case of non-myr NCS-1 than in the case of the myr NCS-1, suggesting that the former accesses larger volumes of conformational substates compared with the latter. Further, the study reveals that the possibility of Ca2+ binding simultaneously to different parts of the protein is more favourable in non-myr NCS-1 than in myr NCS-1

Robust object tracking using local kernels and background information”-Jaideep

ABSTRACT The mean shift algorithm has been proved to be efficient for tracking 2D blobs through a video sequence. Even so, this algorithm has certain inherent disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a robust tracking algorithm which overcomes the drawbacks of global color histogram based tracking. We incorporate tracking based only on reliable colors by separating the object from its background. A fast yet robust model updation is employed to overcome illumination changes. This algorithm is computationally simple enough to be executed real time and was tested on several complex video sequences. The proposed technique could be easily extended to other tracking algorithms too

Visualize and Correlate changes to network device to anomalies in network

    Get PDF
NOM products enable users to manage their network by enforcing controlled changes to configuration of network devices apart from monitoring performance, fault and compliance of all devices in their network. While monitoring a network, it is always been a challenge to deduce and represent correlation, among anomalies across thousands of devices, in a format that users can consume, validate and act on. This paper proposes a method to deduce and visualize, possibly related anomalies on connected devices in the network based on user’s selection of an anomaly on a device of interest. While this paper takes network domain as an example to demonstrate the idea, it could be applied to any of the infrastructure and application management solutions in a datacenter. This paper proposes a unique approach to solve this problem by leveraging ML and network operator’s deployment/domain knowledge

Parental involvement in school benefits students and develops teacher-parent relationships

    Get PDF
Parental involvement (PI) in student education is highly beneficial for student-parent and teacher-parent relationships. Based on literature review, the present study explores how PI in school-based activities enhances the learning journey of students and is a medium for teachers and parents to forge effective school-home partnerships. This review explores a varied scope of literature to determine why creating professional teacher-student and school-home partnerships is an especially important contemporary educational issue within New Zealand (NZ) today and how teachers need to take responsibility for and be proactive about PI in school-based activities

A seamless software defined radio development flow for waveform and prototype debugging, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2008, nr 2

With the increasing number of wireless communication standards flexibility has gained more and more importance which has lead to the software defined radio (SDR) concept. However, SDR development has to face many challenges, among them are the questions how SDR systems can be designed to achieve flexibility, architectural efficiency, energy efficiency and portability at the same time. These requirements result in very elaborate architectures and a highly increased design complexity. To cope with such complexity, we proposed an SDR development flow. During the development of such SDR, debugging becomes more efficient on a prototype hardware implementation than on a simulation model. However, error analysis on a prototype suffers from strong limitations like a reduced state visibility. In this paper, an extension to the SDR development flow is presented and successfully applied to an example SDR. It allows for an efficient error analysis with the SDR simulation model by the feedback of stimulus data from the prototype

Adoption of RFID technologies in UK logistics: moderating roles of size, barcode experience and government support

    Get PDF
Due to globalization, logistics has become an important part in the supply chain. Many logistics service providers have realised the importance of adoption of technologies that can help manufacturers, warehouses, and retailers to communicate with each other more efficiently. Among many logistics technologies, radio frequency identification (RFID) has been identified as an important technology to improve logistics operations and supply chain management, and thus is increasingly gaining both practitioners’ and researchers’ attention. The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of usability features of RFID in the adoption of the technology by the logistics sector in the UK. We have used questionnaire survey method to collect data from the UK logistics firms. The analysis of the data shows that the usability of RFID technology positively influences adoption of technology. We have further tested the moderating effects of firm size, experience with barcode use, and government support in adopting RFID. Our results show that government support strongly moderates the link between usability of RFID and its adoption but size and experience with barcode do not moderate this link. We elaborate the contributions of the study and managerial implications of our results in this pape
