Assessment of coliform contamination in drinking water from source to point of use in Mysore city of Karnataka, India

    Get PDF
Drinking water supply of Mysore city was assessed for coliform contamination. A 277 drinking water samples were randomly collected from different water sources such as bore wells, taps of consumer points and stored household water samples. The samples were analyzed for microbial parameters like heterotrophic plate count and coliform count. Out of 226 samples from consumer points, 80 samples were contaminated with enteric bacteria. Nearly 325 isolates of coliform were identified of which there were 79 E. coli, 26 Salmonella, 92 Klebsiella and 98 Citrobacter isolates. From the study, the isolation of pathogenic microorganisms indicated that the stored household water was unsafe. Coliform contamination in household water was high even when source water was of good quality. The present study highlights the population’s hygiene, health behavior and environmental sanitation. Coliform in stored household water suggests that improvement in behavior and water hygiene practices can improve the household water quality

Research Productivity and Citation Impact of S.C. Sharma as Seen through the Scopus Database

This study presented the bibliometric analysis of Sharma’s research publications as found in the Scopus database. The study presents the publication profile of Sharma in terms of the number of papers published, top journals where Sharma has published his research papers frequently, subject area, author collaborations, and institutional collaboration and so on. The study also analyzes the research impact through citations count, highly cited papers and h-index. VOSviewer, a software tool for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks, was used to visualize the co-author collaborations, country collaborations and keyword analysis. A comparative analysis of the Scopus and the Google Scholar indicates the differences existing between these databases for analyzing individual author’s research and citation impact

Why UGC- CARE List of Journals & Good Academic Research Practices (GARP) Both are Archaic?

    No full text
This paper discusses Good Academic Research Practices (GARP) and UGC-CARE List and their limitations in engaging with emerging open publishing platforms specifically preprints. This paper through some light on preprints and its role in accelerating science communication during COVID-19 pandemic. The UGC’s opaqueness towards emerging open publishing platforms in its GARP document and propagating traditional scholarly publications through UGC-CARE List has also been deliberated

Stress intensity factor determination of radially cracked circular rings subjected to tension using photoelastic technique

    No full text
A parametric study was carried out to determine the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) in a cracked circular ring by using the photoelastic technique. The stress intensity factors for mode I deformation were determined by subjecting the specimens to the tensile loading from inner boundary and through the holes. The results of Non-Dimensional Stress Intensity Factor (NDSIF) variation with non-dimensional crack length for both methods of loading are compared with each other and with published results. © 1989

69-75UGC-NET is an eligibility examination for those who are aspiring for the academic jobs in the universities and colleges in India. There are multiple sources, mainly printed publications, available for preparation of UGC-NET exams. The present study examines the suitability of Wikipedia as a source for preparation. The 396 topics culled from the UGC-NET syllabus in LIS was compared for their coverage in Wikipedia. It was found that 55.55% of the topics are available on Wikipedia. The answers to the previous years’ questions were also searched. The study found that 35.48% of answers could be traced in Wikipedia. The Wikipedia was also examined from other parameters such as up-to-datedness, comprehensiveness, illustrations, and references and external links. The analyses show that Wikipedia could be a source for preparation for UGC-NET. The study has an implication for those who are seeking the eligibility for the jobs through UGC-NET
