Teaching Translation and Interpreting by Splitting Them into Types: Analysis of the Processes and Principles

    Get PDF
This article examines the types of translation and interpreting and discusses their teaching through their major categories, and modalities. The study tries to show their utility or arbitrariness regarding their classification by types. The development of these themes has a goal which is to show their survival as divisions of specializations and their integration into new forms. The findings reveal the neutrality of the splitting and the non-dividing of these types and underline the fact that these traditional classifications are still in use supported by the linguistic and non-linguistic theory of translation. The conclusion suggests some solutions such as the non-classification of the two domains of study into types. The emergence of e-technology generation and the online fast programs lead to the degradation of the classifications and their replacement by new methods and programs of specialization courses. It forwards a method for the accomplishment of the roles of these types

Translating proprietary protection setting data into standardized IEC 61850 format for protection setting validation

    Get PDF
For smart grid development, one of the key expectations is that the data should be accessible to and readily interpreted by different applications. Presently, protection settings are represented using proprietary parameters and stored in various file formats. This makes it very difficult for computer applications to manipulate such data directly. This paper introduces a process that translates the proprietary protection setting data into IEC 61850 standardised format and saves the data as System Configuration description Language (SCL) files. A code generation process that allows rapid implementation of the translation process is proposed. Among various applications, the paper demonstrates how such a translation process and generated SCL files can facilitate the development of an intelligent system for protection setting error detection and validation

Standardization of power system protection settings using IEC 61850 for improved interoperability

    Get PDF
One of the potential benefits of smart grid development is that data becomes more open and available for use by multiple applications. Many existing protection relays use proprietary formats for storing protection settings. This paper proposes to apply the IEC 61850 data model and System Configuration description Language (SCL), which are formally defined, to represent protection settings. Protection setting files in proprietary formats are parsed using rule-based reasoning, mapped to the IEC 61850 data model, and exported as SCL files. An important application of using SCL-based protection setting files is to achieve protection setting interoperability, which could bring multiple compelling benefits, such as significantly streamlining the IED configuration process and releasing utilities from being “locked in” to one particular vendor. For this purpose, this paper proposes a uniform configuration process for future IEDs. The challenges involved in the implementation of the proposed approach are discussed and possible solutions are presented

Perceptions of Shop Operators on Packaging of Made-in-Ghana Products

    Get PDF
The importance of packaging in the marketing of a product cannot be overemphasized. It raises the appeal of the product and becomes its silent salesman. Proper packaging is a less expensive means of advertisement and leads to a direct reduction in production cost and indirectly increases sales by attracting the final consumer. The use of packaging as a marketing and sales promotional tool has been very well developed in the advanced countries with developing countries such as Ghana lagging far behind. In Ghana, many products are poorly labelled and packaged. This paper seeks to ascertain the views of sellers/traders about how the packaging of Made-in-Ghana products affects their marketability. Geographically, the study focused on Kumasi Metropolis given that it is a commercialized city in Ghana. The research employed the case study and qualitative approaches. Survey respondents were sampled through the cluster and accidental sampling techniques. The major road corridors served as the bases for clustering while the accidental sampling technique was employed for the selection of the shops to be interviewed given the absence of reliable information on the number and location of shops in the Kumasi Metropolis. A random accessible population of 100 was taken. A structured questionnaire was employed in a more interactive manner upon a pre-test of 10 shops. Data obtained was edited and presented in the forms of tables and charts to facilitate the analysis. The study revealed that indeed, the final purchasing decision of consumers are made at the point of sale and that packaging serves as the silent salesman through its aesthetic value and the adequacy of information provided on the label of the product. To the traders, the foreign products have their packaging really acting as their silent salesman better than the local ones, thus, their low patronage. Also, the incidence of product rejection due to its packaging was greater in the instances of locally manufactured products based on faded labels, exposed products’ contents and doubtful expiry dates. The use of right quality packaging materials, appropriate colour schemes, improvements in product branding, embossment of Ghanaian logos were suggested strategies for increasing the patronage of Made-in-Ghana products. Until and unless, the local manufacturer is “pushed” to ensure that their products are properly packaged to attract the final consumer, they would continue to struggle with reduction in sales

REGULARITY CRITERIA FOR THE KURAMOTO-SIVASHINSKY EQUATION IN DIMENSIONS TWO AND THREE

    Get PDF
We propose and prove several regularity criteria for the 2D and 3D Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, in both its scalar and vector forms. In particular, we examine integrability criteria for the regularity of solutions in terms of the scalar solution ∅, the vector solution u ≜ ∇∅, as well as the divergence div(u) = Δ∅, and each component of u and ∇u. We also investigate these criteria computationally in the 2D case, and we include snapshots of solutions for several quantities of interest that arise in energy estimates
